Jamie Carragher is fuming with one Tottenham Hotspur player after he failed to accept responsibility against Nottingham Forest.

Guglielmo Vicario managed to keep two consecutive clean sheets as Tottenham Hotspur defeated both Brentford and Slavia Prague.

However, the goalkeeper conceded three goals against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, and he was one of the players at fault on two separate occasions.

Vicario played a risky pass to Archie Gray, which led to the hosts’ opening goal, and his positioning was nowhere near good enough for the second.

Jamie Carragher slams Guglielmo Vicario after Tottenham display

Jamie Carragher appeared on the Sky Sports Extra Time Show, and he had some harsh words for Vicario due to the role he played in Nottingham Forest’s first goal.

However, the former Liverpool defender is not just frustrated by Vicario’s mistake, but due to his decision to instantly blame Gray.

Carragher said: “It’s not just a keeper playing out. It’s a keeper on his weak foot. Typical Vicario, he is always blaming someone else.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“Every time I see a goal go in, he throws his arms at someone else. He seems to do it a lot, and he did it again today. We can talk about young Archie Gray in midfield, but I’m putting this on the goalkeeper.

“Archie Gray could do a lot better, of course, he could, but what the lad does initially is he is trying to help someone who doesn’t actually need help.

“The goalkeeper doesn’t actually need any help because the ball should go out wide to his player. I don’t know what the problem is. There is no real pressure on it.

“But what Vicario does instead of passing with his right foot to Van de Ven on his left foot, he then takes the ball on his left foot and tries to play a little dinky pass here.

“The point I am trying to make about being on your weak foot as a goalkeeper is, there is a reason you’re in goal for one – you are probably not going to be amazing with your feet – but on your weak foot, you are trying to be intricate and trying to pass it to a certain player’s foot.”

Carragher continued to acknowledge that Gray could have done better in the situation. However, he believes Vicario was mostly responsible for the goal.

“Archie Gray can play with both feet, but he is predominantly right-footed – [and] he plays it to his left foot,” Carragher continued.

“Could his [Gray’s] control be slightly better? Of course it could, but for me that is on the goalkeeper. It’s a horrible ball to deal with. Credit for the pressing, you think of Sean Dyche, you think of Nottingham Forest getting after the opposition players, and they do really well.

“But talking about the left foot pass. It’s not a great pass, it’s bobbled in because it’s on his weak foot, so that bobbling bouncing pass into Gray, on his weak foot as well – yes, control should be a little bit tighter – but even if his control was right, Sangare would still be on top of him.

“I’m laying all the blame on the goalkeeper, I am.”

Vicario has to take responsibility for his actions on the pitch

Carragher is not wrong when he claims that Vicario is always looking to blame someone else whenever he makes a mistake.

Even when the 29-year-old made that dreadful error against Fulham, he raised his arms in the air and looked to be shouting at one of his teammates. He did take responsibility for his moment of madness after the match, but he should have been apologising as soon as the away team’s goal hit the back of the net.

It is bad enough that Vicario keeps making errors, but having a poor attitude when these mistakes occur makes the situation so much worse.

Description

Sunday’s defeat at the City Ground to Nottingham Forest has now seen Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank break an unwanted Spurs record.

Thomas Frank was not best pleased with his team’s performance against Nottingham Forest, with the Tottenham boss openly expressing his disappointment at his team’s lack of effort at the City Ground.

There was a clear absence of energy and determination in Spurs’ 3-0 defeat, as Frank’s side struggled to do the basics right, too often misplacing short passes and allowing Forest to dictate the tempo far too easily.

That showing was far from a one-off this season, with Tottenham looking lacklustre in several Premier League matches, a trend that has slowly but surely begun to define their campaign.

Tottenham suffer unwanted points record under Thomas Frank

Tottenham have now suffered six defeats from their opening 16 league outings, and in each of those games they have been outplayed and clearly second best.

According to BBC Sport, Tottenham Hotspur’s current poor run of form has seen them accumulate one of their lowest points tallies after 16 league games.

Spurs‘ 22 points so far this season after 16 matches is the club’s worst at this stage of a Premier League campaign since 2008-09, when they had collected just 18 points after the same number of games.

MORE SPURS STORIES

With 22 points on the board, Tottenham sit 11th in the table, six points off the top four and six clear of 17th place, a precarious position that underlines just how tight the margins are despite it still being relatively early in the campaign.

Spurs form raises familiar concerns as pressure grows on Frank

The onus is firmly on Thomas Frank to turn things around at Tottenham, and the Dane will need to do so quickly if this season is not to drift in a worrying direction.

Last season, Spurs broke all the wrong records, suffering their highest number of defeats in a 38-game league campaign with 22 losses.

They also recorded their worst-ever Premier League finish, ending the campaign in 17th place, and Frank now risks edging towards a similar trajectory if performances do not improve, with the prospect of being dragged into a relegation scrap becoming increasingly real.

Description

Former Tottenham owner Lord Sugar has now called for Spurs to move on from Thomas Frank, naming his ideal managerial candidate.

Tottenham Hotspur fans will have been hoping that the disappointments and inconsistencies of last season were firmly behind them after the club appointed Thomas Frank in the summer.

The Dane managed a positive start at Tottenham, but results of late have been jarring, particularly in the Premier League, where Spurs have managed just one win in their last seven league outings.

Saturday’s defeat to Nottingham Forest summed up the growing frustration, as Frank’s side failed to build on their two wins on the bounce in all competitions, with relegation-threatened Forest running rampant at the City Ground and exposing the same old frailties.

Lord Sugar urges Tottenham to sack Thomas Frank and appoint Jurgen Klopp

Amid the struggles and mounting pressure on Thomas Frank, former Tottenham owner Lord Sugar, who owned the club from 1991 to 2001, has now publicly called on Spurs to part ways with their current head coach and consider moving for former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Following Tottenham’s 3-0 defeat to Forest, Sugar took to X to make his feelings clear, suggesting that Spurs should use their financial muscle to secure a proven elite manager.

He said: “With the massive fortune of the Lewis family it would be a win win situation if they hired Jurgen Klopp in January. Loads of money for players and a great manager. Who agrees #coys”

MORE SPURS STORIES

Spurs fans are frustrated with the results of late, but many are not in agreement with Thomas Frank being sacked at this stage, particularly with the feeling that constant change in the dugout has done little to solve deeper issues.

The sense among sections of the fanbase is that the personnel at Frank’s disposal is simply not at the level of some of the best teams in the league, making it difficult to judge him fairly so early into his tenure.

However, Klopp has consistently shown throughout his career that he is capable of punching above his weight, having achieved this success at Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool, where he won league titles.

Based on the sides Klopp has managed, Spurs could be an ideal job for him, but it is highly unlikely, given that he stated he will not be managing any other Premier league sides when he left Liverpool in 2024.

The German is now Red Bull’s Global Head of Footbal, and there have been claims that Klopp has an exit clause in his Red Bull contract allowing him to take the Germany national team job should it become vacant, but it remains unclear whether a similar clause exists for a return to club management.

Unfortunately for Tottenham and Lord Sugar, Klopp has already insisted that he will never manage another English club due to his loyalty to Liverpool.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur fans have now given their verdict on the future of Thomas Frank after Spurs’ disappointing 3-0 defeat at the City Ground.

Thomas Frank’s side once again struggled against a bottom-of-the-table Premier League outfit when they travelled to Nottingham Forest, a game that exposed familiar issues rather than providing any sense of progress.

Spurs have had moments this season where results have gone their way against low-placed sides, including a win over Leeds United, but even that came with caveats.

A hard-fought draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers a couple of months back also underlined how much effort has been required just to stay competitive.

Sean Dyche’s side were relentless in their approach, outplaying Spurs for long spells and putting three goals past Frank’s Tottenham team, with the balance, intensity and clarity in Forest’s play only sharpening the contrast.

Tottenham fans react to Thomas Frank future as pressure grows

With results remaining inconsistent, pressure is beginning to mount on the Tottenham boss, who currently has Spurs in the bottom half of the table.

Following the defeat to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, Tottenham fans were quick to give their verdict on Thomas Frank’s future, debating whether the time has already come for the club to consider parting ways with him.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Introducing their frustrations with what they see on the pitch, one supporter questioned the direction of travel under Frank, saying: “No style, no plan, and bringing on defensive players when 2-0 down when you have three attacking options on the bench. A pragmatic manager in charge of a club that is known for attacking football. It is one that will never work, and delaying the inevitable will not help.”

Another fan focused on the lack of identity, comparing Spurs unfavourably to other sides across the league, adding: “I believe so. Watching Sunderland, Brighton, Bournemouth and even Leeds, you can see a plan or identity. If you go back to the start of their managers’ tenures, you saw that early. We are six months in virtually, and no identity, you cannot pinpoint what we want to do with the ball.”

There was also a more cautious voice among the responses, with one supporter explaining why they would hold off on making a change in the dugout for now: “The depression in me says yes, but honestly, I doubt we can turn this season around anyway. So I would rather give Frank another window than bring in a replacement now. Then if it does not work out, sack him in the summer, give a new manager a fresh start.”

Another Tottenham fan argued that the issues run deeper than Thomas Frank alone, suggesting structural problems at the club remain unresolved, saying: “Have we not changed the manager enough times? The only thing that will fix this football club is quality scouting and recruitment of players who improve the first team, and a wage structure that allows us to compete with the clubs above us.”

One final supporter summed up the growing apathy towards the football itself, adding: “Yes, do not want to watch pragmatic, boring football. Want to see my team compete and take the opposition on rather than sit in and make the same mistakes.”

Spurs performance issues raise bigger questions beyond Frank

Tottenham’s problems do indeed go beyond the manager, but Thomas Frank is not completely free from blame, particularly when the football on show feels so far removed from what supporters associate with the club.

His time at Brentford saw him play attacking football, with Bryan Mbeumo, Ivan Toney and Yoane Wissa scoring goals and exciting fans, which only makes the current approach at Spurs feel more puzzling.

However, at Tottenham, the Dane seems to have lost that attacking edge, often setting his side up in a conservative manner that stifles creativity rather than encouraging it, a trend that has become increasingly hard to ignore.

Thomas Frank issues strong message to the Tottenham board as fans grow restless - Spurs Web
Description

Thomas Frank has made an interesting appeal to the Tottenham hierarchy after the team’s latest loss against Nottingham Forest.

Tottenham appear at least three times in the worst five xG scores posted in the Premier League this season, which shows exactly why Spurs supporters have been so agitated this season.

Many of them have never seen their team deliver as many poor attacking displays as the Lilywhites have consistently so far this campaign.

It was the same problem at the City Ground on Sunday, with Tottenham Hotspur registering just one shot on target across the 90 minutes, but Frank believes he is the right man to turn things around.

Thomas Frank says Tottenham’s issues are not a quick fix

Over the past couple of decades, Spurs have been very quick to pull the trigger on managers if things are not going according to plan.

There is a new leadership structure in place at the North London club following Daniel Levy’s exit in September, and Frank has insisted that he needs time to fix the team’s issues.

When asked if he feels he will get time to put the required foundations in place, the Tottenham head coach responded (via Football.London): “I can’t see why not. I think it’s pretty evident that if no one gets the time, no one can turn this around. This is not a quick fix.”

Frank reveals why the next two weeks are crucial

Reports indicate that Frank is not in any danger of being sacked for now, with the Spurs hierarchy willing to back him through this difficult period.

Tottenham do not have any midweek games in the next two weeks, and the Dane admitted that he and his coaching staff are looking forward to doing some important work on the training ground.

When asked about navigating the next few weeks, the 52-year-old said: “First and foremost, we have, I think, finally a more or less full week going into Liverpool next time. After that, we have eight days in to Palace. So that gives a little bit of time to train and try to get on top of some of these things.

“That’s also the challenge. No complaints, just the fact. We try to change things with very little time between games. It’s just a little bit more tricky. But we need to utilise the time in the next two weeks massively. And then we have five games in a short amount of time.”

Thomas Frank hints at mentality issue for ‘out of sync’ Tottenham Hotspur stars

Description

Thomas Frank has admitted that he is extremely frustrated with the performance that he saw from his Tottenham players at the City Ground.

There was some cautious optimism among the Spurs fan base ahead of the team’s trip to Nottingham Forest.

Not only had the Lilywhites registered back-to-back home wins against Brentford and Slavia Prague in the lead-up to the contest, but they also played on the front foot and created plenty of chances in those matches.

However, we saw Tottenham revert to type in the Midlands, failing to even lay a glove on the home side and emerging with a deserved 3-0 loss.

Thomas Frank says Tottenham were never in the game after going 2-0 down

The Tottenham boss asserted that his players failed to execute their game plan and keep their heads after Forest’s second goal, suggesting that it was a repeat of what we saw from the team last season as well.

Frank pointed the finger at the number of unforced errors that Spurs made in possession as the main reason why they did not create chances.

When asked if it was a case of two steps forward and a huge leap back for his side, the Dane said (via Football.London): “Yeah, absolutely agree. That was very disappointing. It was a bad performance. Frustrating, because I think the last three games were good in terms of performance and results, normally linked. And you can lose a game like this. That’s the frustrating part, of course.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“I think every game, I think, until the 1-0 goal, it was a little bit back and forth for both teams. Hard transition both ways. And then after the first goal, I think we lost structure and were more disjointed. And then the 2-0 goal killed the game off.

“Basically, not in the game after that, in my opinion. And that’s part of keeping the structure, keep the game plan, keep going, keep doing the right things. So that’s definitely not the first time we’ve seen that, this year, last year, whenever. That’s something that’s ongoing work in progress before we’re more consistent in that.

“Doesn’t help that we made two mistakes with the first two goals. But again, that can happen in football. So we just need to keep doing the right things. So everything looks the right way. And then on top of that, we decide to throw the ball away at least 25 times. So we can’t hit each other 25 times. That’s going to make it difficult for you to create anything or to win a game.”

When pressed on if it was a mental issue, the 52-year-old responded: “I think it’s a combination of mental, structure, and coolness. Stick to the game plan, focus.”

Frank asked if Spurs players are failing to execute his game plan

Tottenham registered just one shot on target throughout the 90 minutes at the City Ground, and unfortunately, that kind of performance has become far too common this season.

Frank insisted that the issue does not come down to the game plan, but rather the players’ inability to make simple passes.

When it was pointed out that he has asked for more aggression and bravery from his side and asked if the players are not taking his messages on board, Frank responded: “No, I think it’s very simple. If you don’t perform, you can say all the right things. If you’re a little bit out of sync, then you see things like this. When you are on track and in sync, you see the last three performances. So that’s very simple.

“If you perform, you keep doing the right thing, then it makes it easier, of course. And then I just think of the little small thing that is difficult. We win together, we lose together, but we can’t pass the ball on the pitch. So if we lose the ball 25 times, I think it’s fair to say that it’s pretty difficult to create something.”

Mohammed Kudus gives scathing indictment of Tottenham's latest performance, 'including me' - Spurs Web
Description

Mohammed Kudus has some strong words about Tottenham’s performance at the City Ground on Sunday.

Spurs went to the Midlands hoping to keep their momentum going and make it three wins from three ahead of their big clash against Liverpool next weekend.

Instead, what they produced was another extremely lacklustre performance, with Nottingham Forest emerging as comfortable 3-0 winners.

Spurs’ lack of creativity continues to be a concern, with Frank’s men once again struggling to fashion many opportunities of note.

Mohammed Kudus says Tottenham players need to play with more effort

Thomas Frank was as critical as we have ever heard him this season after his side’s performance on Sunday, and we have now heard something very similar from Kudus.

The Ghanaian admitted that he and his teammates failed to create enough opportunities, and put it down to a lack of effort and poor decision-making.

Kudus said (via BBC Sport): “Not good enough. A very disappointing result. We didn’t create enough today, including me. We need more effort in our all-around game.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“To win a game in the Premier League is very difficult. We need the same input every single day. We lacked that. We needed to do more.

The final quality, including myself, some of the decisions we took today were a bit rushed. We need to pick it up and focus on the next game.”

Kudus defends Archie Gray despite his error

It was an individual error that once again cost Tottenham on Sunday, with Archie Gray’s pocket being picked after he took a touch from Guglielmo Vicario’s pass in the lead-up to Forest’s first goal.

Kudus praised the 19-year-old for not hiding and continuing to show for the ball even after his mistake.

The winger said about Gray’s error: “It happens. For me, I’m really glad he [Archie Gray] wants to get on the ball. That’s how we want to play, players who want to be on the ball. I’m very happy to see that after the mistake, he still wanted to get on the ball.”

Three winners and three losers from Tottenham’s humiliating 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest

Three winners and three losers from Tottenham’s humiliating 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur suffered their worst defeat of the season on Sunday afternoon, so finding any positives from the game is far from straightforward.

The North London derby was a new low point for Tottenham Hotspur, but at least the 4-1 defeat that day was against the best performing team in the Premier League.

Nottingham Forest were 16th in the Premier League table prior to kick off yesterday, yet thrashed Spurs by a three-goal margin.

Any positivity from Tottenham’s previous two victories is well and truly gone and the pressure is mounting on Thomas Frank.

Here are the three winners and losers from one of the worst Spurs matches in recent memory.

Some Tottenham fans will have been unable to purchase a ticket

Every loyal Spurs supporter would like to get to as many away games as possible, but sometimes it can be a blessing in disguise not to have enough points to get a ticket.

The biggest winners of Sunday’s clash were those who did not travel to the City Ground. Watching the match on TV does not make a defeat any better, but at least it avoids the hours spent getting to and from the game.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Then again, at least the visiting fans were each given a free scarf for their troubles. Perhaps it would have been better to put the money spent on this pointless gesture towards signing a forward in January who can actually remain consistent for more than two fixtures.

Ben Davies is still getting minutes for Spurs

The Wales international was expected to leave the club last summer, but he stuck around and was even named in Frank’s five-man leadership group.

Davies made more defensive contributions in 31 minutes than Djed Spence managed in an hour against Forest and he must be delighted to have continued receiving game time after all these years.

Joao Palhinha is more likely to start for Tottenham after Sunday’s defeat

Frank was heavily criticised for starting Joao Palhinha and Rodrigo Bentancur together and it seems he actually listened to the feedback, given his recent lineups.

However, Spurs were poor in midfield against Nottingham Forest and this could cause the Danish boss to reconsider his new strategy.

Palhinha came on and immediately got to work making tackles and contributing in the defensive areas. It would be strange not to see the Portuguese star play against Liverpool next weekend, considering he is clearly an improvement on both the holding midfielders who started on Sunday.

Now, let’s take a look at the three losers from Nottingham Forest 3-0 Tottenham.

Archie Gray made a dreadful error

Archie Gray has gone from starting against Burnely to being frozen out of the Tottenham team, only to now be playing pretty much every week.

The young Englishman has shown promise in some of his performances, but he was really poor against Nottingham Forest.

Gray was responsible for the hosts’ opening goal, as he lost possession on the edge of his own penalty box. Other than this, the ex-Leeds United player did very little during the game and failed to win a single duel.

Guglielmo Vicario was at fault for Tottenham again

The negativity surrounding Guglielmo Vicario had gone quiet after a couple of decent performances from the Italian. However, he is back in the firing line after a dreadful display against Forest.

Vicario must take some responsibility for the first goal he conceded. Ultimately it was Gray’s fault, but the goalkeeper had better options than to play the ball to the 19-year-old.

Fast forward into the second half and Vicario had no one to blame but himself for Forest’s second goal. His positioning was awful as Callum Hudson-Odoi’s shot from the left wing went right over his head.

Thomas Frank is the ultimate Spurs loser

Nobody is more responsible for yet another embarrassing Tottenham defeat than Thomas Frank. Being good away from home was the only positive to take from his current tenure, but now even that is gone.

The ex-Brentford manager continues to set up Spurs as if they are a team fighting for a mid-table finish, so it is no wonder they are 11th and just two points off 15th.

Frank still believes Tottenham’s problem is losing duels and misplacing passes, but this is only scratching the surface of what is actually going wrong at the club. Spurs are terrible in attack and something has to change immediately.

Expert predicts broken relationships at Tottenham after latest Daniel Levy twist

Expert predicts broken relationships at Tottenham after latest Daniel Levy twist - Spurs Web
Description

Football finance expert Stefan Borsen believes that the Tottenham hierarchy’s latest decision tells us a lot about their relationship with Daniel Levy.

Levy left his role as Tottenham chairman back in September after two and a half decades at the helm.

According to reports, Vivienne and Charles Lewis completely blindsided Levy by asking him to leave following an internal review headed by Tavistock Group, who are the majority shareholders of ENIC.

According to a new report in Bloomberg, the Lewis Family Trust are now conducting an accounting review into Daniel Levy’s time at the club. Although, it should be said that no wrongdoing is suspected of the former Spurs chairman.

Expert claims Daniel Levy’s relationship with the Lewis family has broken down

Football finance expert Stefan Borson has suggested that someone among the Spurs ownership has leaked the information about the accounting review to the media.

He suggested that the leak is evidence of a fallout between the Lewis family and Levy, who remains a minority shareholder in ENIC.

When if the Bloomberg report is evidence that all is not well between Levy and Tottenham’s majority owners, Borsen told Football Insider: “I mean, I think it’s definitely a sign of that and the fact that it’s even in the public domain is a further sign of it because it shouldn’t be something that anybody knows about, so somebody’s leaked it and we know for sure it’s not Daniel Levy.

“Somebody has seen fit to put that story out into Bloomberg. The relationship is not good, and you can write all day long that there’s no suggestion of any wrongdoing from Daniel Levy, but you don’t conduct an accounting review, a forensic review of what happened in the past, unless you’re trying to find some wrongdoing or reasons to leverage your position in a dispute.

“It may be that they are in some sort of legal dispute about Levy’s exit or the shares or something of that nature. It’s a bad read across. There’s obviously something going on. There’s obviously a breakdown of the relationship and, as I say, it’s not just the fact that this is happening, but it’s the fact that we know about it.

Simon Jordan claims Spurs’ accounting review is nothing out of the ordinary

Simon Jordan had a different take on the matter, suggesting that accounting reviews are commonplace when the leadership structure changes.

The former Crystal Palace owner insisted that, irrespective of what the findings are from the review, Tottenham were successful commercially under Levy.

Description

Liverpool could be without two of their key players for their trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next week.

Spurs have a full week to prepare for their clash against Liverpool, which is not a luxury that Thomas Frank has had many times over the last few months.

The Lilywhites were thrashed 6-3 when Arne Slot’s men visited the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but this is a Liverpool side who have stuttered for much of the season.

Spurs’ chances have now been boosted as Reds have been handed a potential double blow ahead of their trip to North London.

Liverpool could be without two key players for Tottenham clash

Liverpool emerged 2-0 winners against Brighton at Anfield on Saturday but there were a couple of major setbacks for the Merseyside club.

Joe Gomez, who started at right-back, lasted just 26 minutes of the match before going down off the ball. The England international received treatment on the pitch, but was unable to continue.

Then, in the 83rd minute of the game, Dominik Szoboszlai landed awkwardly after jumping to dodge a collision. The Hungarian appeared upset as he received treatment and had to be replaced.

Arne Slot admits things are not looking promising for Liverpool duo

Speaking after the game, Slot revealed that Gomez does not appear likely to return for the Tottenham clash on the back of his muscle injury.

The Liverpool boss revealed that Szoboszlai suffered an ankle injury and admitted that the early signs were not promising for the 25-year-old.

Slot said at full-time (via The Standard): “If I have a player who goes off with a muscle injury like Joe, that’s normally not a positive thing.

“I would not expect him to be in the squad next week [at Tottenham Hotspur]. But sometimes you get a positive surprise.

“People now maybe understand a bit better why I was always so cautious not to play him so many games. I assume many people thought, ‘If you have a defender, if you have a right full-back, why don’t you play him?’”

He said about Szoboszlai: “Dom, it was his ankle. It didn’t look great when I just saw him. But he has unbelievable mentality, so let’s hope for the best.”
