Description

Harry Kane’s brilliance while at Tottenham has been appreciated by fans now more than ever.

Tottenham fans begged Kane to come back after a strong performance against Chelsea during Bayern Munich’s opening game of the UEFA Champions League.

Spurs came from behind against Bodo/Glimt to snag a draw against the home side despite comfortably beating them in the UEFA Europa League semi-final under Ange Postecoglou last season.

As such, the desire to see the England skipper return to Hotspur Way would have only intensified.

Harry Kane not expected to leave Bayern soon

It came as a shock when Thomas Frank stated he’d welcome Kane’s return to Tottenham in the future.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Kane has been linked with Spurs as of late, with a growing feeling that the striker has unfinished business in North London.

Unfortunately for Frank, iconic football commentator Ian Darke – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Kane could be reluctant to leave Bayern Munich at the moment.

“I thought it was interesting that Frank kind of went on the record talking about this and about what a great player Kane was,” Darke said.

“More or less sort of holding out an enticing sort of idea to him that he’d be welcome back, and I think they get a first refusal if it came to that.

“But having said that, it might be all this may be a big, big flyer, based on some of those quotes, because Kane seems extremely happy at Bayern Munich. He’s scoring goals for fun as he nearly always does, but especially this season.

“Could it happen somewhere down the line, when Kane’s maybe 34 or 35? You wouldn’t rule it out. But I don’t think it’s going to happen imminently.”

How close is Harry Kane to beating Alan Shearer’s record?

One thing which could prompt Kane to return to the Premier League is to claim Alan Shearer’s spot as all-time top goalscorer.

If the former Tottenham star arrives at Hotspur Way this summer, there’s no doubt he will break the record.

But even if he rejoins later down the line, given his world-class finishing, there is a strong likelihood he’d surpass the former Newcastle United star forward.

Therefore, even if he is enjoying life in Germany, there’s sufficient reason for Kane to return to the English top-flight.

Description

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Conor Gallagher in recent months.

Tottenham wanted Gallagher from Atletico Madrid over the summer, and speculation has not subsided with the turn of the new season.

The Lilywhites’ priority before the end of September was to sign another attacking midfielder. This became a necessity when James Maddison sustained an ACL injury in Tottenham’s win over Newcastle during pre-season.

Xavi Simons soon arrived at Tottenham as what most thought was his replacement. But with the need for a 10 seemingly answered, Spurs continue to be on the lookout for other midfield options.

This article includes exclusive comments from Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Elliot Anderson named as Conor Gallagher alternative

Tottenham are still interested in Atletico Madrid’s Gallagher, and signing him would have made sense under Ange Postecoglou.

However, his profile is one that does not seem to be needed under Thomas Frank.

There is still a belief that Yves Bissouma will leave Tottenham, with him not yet appearing for Spurs in the Premier League season.

His box-to-box expertise will no doubt be missed, as such Tottenham expert Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson is a profile Spurs should be looking at as opposed to Gallagher.

“I see why he was heavily linked when we had Postecoglou in charge, he would have been a really good fit for us,” Wenham said.

“But times have moved on, and I’ve heard there are a lot of other midfielders that Tottenham would potentially look at, maybe someone like Elliot Anderson, who has a more ball-carrying style, you know, similar to Lucas Bergvall or Pape Matar Sarr, rather than Gallagher, for example.”

What could Elliot Anderson offer Tottenham?

Anderson has remained consistent for Forest this season despite the surprise of former Tottenham manager Postecoglou becoming head coach.

But if he continues his stellar form for both club and country, Frank could develop an interest in Postecoglou’s star player.

The Englishman is an excellent carrier of the ball and, according to Fbref, is in the 77th percentile for ball carries in the last 365 days.

He is also in the 93rd percentile for successful take-ons and 86th for touches in the opposition’s box.

He is also strong defensively and is in the 87th percentile for tackles and 88th for aerial duels won.

As a result, Anderson could bring further defensive stability to this Spurs side while also offering more than enough going forward.

Description

Thomas Frank should raise his head high after hearing what Glenn Hoddle has to say about Tottenham.

There was collective outrage when Tottenham sacked Ange Postecoglou despite winning the UEFA Europa League and ending a 17-year trophy drought.

However, the North London club deemed a 17-place finish in the Premier League insufficient and installed Thomas Frank in his place. The Dane has already had some success at the club who are currently fourth on the table.

But there is one change in the Frank era, which had Spurs legend Hoddle singing his and the players’ praises.

Glenn Hoddle praises Tottenham’s comeback against Bodo/Glimt

Tottenham overcame from a two goal deficit against Bodo/Glimt to salvage a draw in the UEFA Champions League.

MORE SPURS STORIES

This comes after the Lilywhites won 5-1 on aggregate against the Norwegian side to progress to the final of the Europa League, where Tottenham later prevailed over Manchester United.

Despite the disappointing draw, Hoddle stated that Spurs’ fighting mentality was not typically seen under Postecoglou while speaking on TNT Sports on 30 September.

He said: “If we performed like that last year, there’s no way we would have performed anywhere near like that. Where we were average, and get a point.

“Last year, when we were average, we were too easy to play against at times. We’d lose 3-1 or something.

“So they can take away that we don’t have to play at our very best to get something out of the game, and that’s a great trait to be consistent. You can’t outplay your teams every week and score goals left, right, and centre.”

Tottenham mentality strong under Thomas Frank

Over the past two matchdays, Tottenham have come back twice against their opponents to salvage a draw.

Joao Palhinha netted the equaliser for Spurs in their draw to Wolves at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, while the draw to Bodo/Glimt will still be fresh in the minds of Tottenham fans.

A deeper delve into the Lilywhites’ attacking intensity against Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League and defeat to Crystal Palace on 11 May vindicates Hoddle’s position.

In the defeat to Palace at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Spurs’ attacking momentum after conceding a double from Eberechi Eze was minimal.

This continued throughout the game, with the Lilywhites offering little going forward and Palace outperforming their attacking efforts.

Meanwhile, Spurs’ best attacking sequences against Bodo/Glimt came after they had conceded both goals, netting one of their own and forcing an own goal.

As a result, there is an obvious mentaltiy shift under Frank. But the question that now remains is, should there have to be?

Brooklyn Earick could take new Tottenham takeover step within days as Lewis family source speaks out - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tottenham could look unrecognisable in the coming weeks as talks of a takeover intensify.

Change has taken over in North London over the past couple of months, and it doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon.

Ange Postecoglou’s dismissal as Tottenham manager came as a shock at the time, but Spurs supporters were completely blindsided when Daniel Levy stepped down as Tottenham chairman.

Speculation of a Tottenham takeover materialised after Levy’s dismissal, but things look concrete now that Brooklyn Earick has entered the picture.

Brooklyn Earick could make formal Tottenham bid imminently

It was recently reported that tech entrepreneur Earick was offering a £4.5billion takeover bid for Tottenham.

MORE SPURS STORIES

This would have included £3.3bn upfront to Tottenham owners ENIC and the Lewis family, but also £1.2bn in for transfers and wages, according to the print edition of The Sun (1 October, page 49)

However, ENIC stated the offer was “unequivocally rejected”, with a source close to the Joe Lewis family dismissing the approach as “unsolicited.”

It is believed that the Lewis family are committed to Spurs’ sporting success over the coming years.

Despite this, on August 6, Earick published the full details of his visit nearly two months after his first takeover approach. As well as a snap of the official Takeover Panel notification of his approach, with the comment “unsolicited.”

It is now understood that Earick and his backers could make a formal bid for Tottenham as soon as this week.

How much of Tottenham does the Lewis family own?

Tottenham are owned by British investment group ENIC, which has had majority control of the club since 2001.

After almost 25 years at the helm, Spurs supporters will no doubt be open to the idea of new owners.

However, with the Lewis family prioritising the Lilywhites’ sporting success and fans desperate to win more trophies, it is likely the two will find common ground over the coming months.

Description

Joao Palhinha will no doubt want to continue his journey at Tottenham beyond this season.

Palhinha joined Tottenham on loan from Bayern Munich over the summer to offer defensive stability.

This came after Yves Bissouma was expected to leave Spurs before the transfer window closed, and while the Mali international is still at Hotspur Way, he does not seem to feature in Thomas Frank’s plans.

As such, Palhinha has taken on an active role in North London, forming a budding partnership with Rodrigo Bentancur in the midfield.

However, the Bayern loanee will have several obstacles to overcome during his stay with the Lilywhites.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tottenham News presents the exclusive opinion of iconic football commentator Ian Darke.

Joao Palhinha told he has ‘a lot to prove’ at Tottenham

Palhinha’s celebration in Tottenham’s 1-1 draw to Wolves was criticised after he tore off his shirt following a last-minute equaliser.

But that has not been the only problem Spurs have had regarding the midfielder who is currently the joint top goalscorer alongside Richarlison.

While Ian Darke – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – does not believe he’ll continue this goalscoring form, he thinks Palhinha will need to prove himself if he wants to continue in North London.

“I think this is sort of this is a little bit of a freak period in Palhinha’s career in terms of goal scoring,” Darke said.

“He isn’t noted as a goal scorer, and it wouldn’t be the biggest surprise to me if he didn’t score again this season.

“But he’s getting himself into the scoring position. I think he’s nice and fresh and energetic. He’s got a lot to prove. They already want to sign him permanently.

“I thought he was a good signing when he came in. There were reasons he wasn’t getting through at Bayern Munich.

“So I think he’s glad to be in the Premier League. He’s glad to be firing, and I think Spurs are mighty glad to have him in there.”

How has Joao Palhinha performed at Tottenham?

The defensive midfielder has already netted three goals for the Lilywhites this season, two in the Premier League and one during Spurs’ win over Doncaster Rovers in the Carabao Cup third round.

According to Sofascore, he has also been defensively solid.

Having a defensive midfielder who is competent in his role but also surprisingly strong going forward has given Frank a lot of options.

There is no doubt that if he continues this way, Tottenham will be looking to sign him permanently this summer.

The damning stat that shows Thomas Frank still has major work to do at Tottenham

Tottenham have made a largely bright start to the season under Thomas Frank.

The Lilywhites find themselves sat fourth in the early-season Premier League table, having shown plenty of positive signs during their opening few games.

However, there are still plenty of things to work on, and Tuesday night’s frustrating 2-2 draw with Bodo/Glimt highlighted that for Tottenham once again.

The scale of the job that Frank has on his hands has become apparent again following their challenging night in European action, and this damning stat provides the perfect indication of the key issue that is facing the boss.

Own goals are Spurs’ highest scorer in all competitions

Frank shuffled his Tottenham pack for the trip to face Bodo/Glimt, and it simply didn’t work out for him at all.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The Lilywhites were penned in by their hosts for the vast majority of the encounter, and looked set to be leaving the Arctic Circle with nothing to show for their efforts after Jens Petter Hauge fired his side into a deserved two-goal lead.

Spurs were outshout 18-8 on the night by their unfancied opponents, who were certainly good value for their point, if not more, especially considering that the visitors were saved by a fortuitous Jostein Gundersen own goal in the 89th minute.

Rather concerningly for Frank, that means that own goals are now the top scorer for his side across all competitions, according to journalist Tom Barclay via his X account.

The Dane is blessed with a wealth of options in the final third, but ultimately, very few of them have the top-level quality that is needed to take his team to new heights.

The N17 outfit have acutally outperformed their xG by a significant total of four strikes in the Premier League, but that suggests that they are not creating enough quality chances to sustain their promising start.

That will quickly catch up to them if it is not adressed, as we have seen in the recent draws with Wolves and Bodo/Glimt.

Thomas Frank has no room to manouvre at Tottenham

Injury issues have plagued Tottenham at the start of the season, as both Dominic Solanke and Randal Kolo Muani have been sidelined through injury.

However, there is a concerning lack of room to manouvre for Frank when it comes to evolving the attacking areas of the squad.

Solanke was a club-record buy as recently as last summer, and has since struggled for confidence and now fitness. Meanwhile, Kolo Muani is still an unknown quantity in a Spurs shirt, and thus cannot be relied upon to produce the goods.

Richarlison has performed well so far with three league goals from an xG of just 1.65, but history shows that it is unlikely to be sustainable for him across the campaign.

With that in mind, Frank desperately needs to add another striker in January, but finds himself in a situation where the only option would likely be selling either Richarlison or Solanke for a major loss.

Description

Tottenham snatched a 2-2 draw in the dying stages of their Champions League clash with Bodo/Glimt on Tuesday night.

The Lilywhites have made a bright start to the new Premier League season, but they struggled in this continental clash, as their hosts dominated large parts of proceedings.

The trip to Bodo/Glimt was always likely to be awkward for Tottenham, and it proved that way, as Jens Petter Hauge netted a superb brace in the second half, before Micky van de Ven’s header and a fortuitous late own goal from Jostein Gundersen levelled the game.

It was a hugely disappointing night for Thomas Frank’s men, and with that in mind, Tottenham News rates the performances of every single Spurs player.

Micky van de Ven a 7/10 for Tottenham

Tottenham have received interest in Van de Ven from Real Madrid recently, but he was far below his usual standard against Bodo/Glimt.

MORE SPURS STORIES

That said, the Netherlands international was still the best performer on a torrid night for the N17 outfit.

He got Spurs back into the game in the latter stages, as he produced an excellent header to glance home a free-kick from Pedro Porro to hand his team a lifeline.

It was not a performance to be proud of for the Tottenham defence, but Van de Ven did at least make significant contributions to hold the hosts at bay for as long as they did.

The 24-year-old completed a game-high 10 defensive actions and made some crucial interventions in his own third.

It was far from his best showing, but he the only real positive of the evening for the Lilywhites, and as a result, was worthy of a 7/10 rating.

Richarlison anonymous for Spurs

Richarlison has made a bright start at Tottenham this season, but there is still plenty of frustration surrounding the Brazilian’s consistency.

Unfortunately, against Bodo/Glimt he looked to be back to the player who has largely struggled during his time in North London.

The striker was devoid of service for the majority of the game, but failed to provide a decent outlet for his side, and simply didn’t make himself available often enough to relieve the pressure on his team.

He completed just 40% of his passes, with a staggeringly low final total of two accurate passes throughout the 90 minutes. The frontman also had just 10 touches of the ball throughout the game, the lowest total of anyone who started the game.

Richarlison didn’t have many opportunities on goal, but miskicked a cross from Lucas Bergvall in the early stages that could have provided a completely different complexion to the game.

It was a terrible performance from the frontman, who was worthy of little more than a 3/10 rating.

Thomas Frank’s Tottenham experiment badly backfires, easy option now to make

Thomas Frank’s Tottenham experiment badly backfires, easy option now to make - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tottenham have found themselves under pressure away at Bodo/Glimt in the first half despite a 0-0 scoreline at half-time.

The Lilywhites have struggled to get a foothold in the game, and the hosts should have gone ahead when Kasper Hogh skied his penalty over the crossbar.

A trip to Bodo/Glimt was always a potential banana skin for Tottenham, and it is proving to be exactly that so far.

Thomas Frank took a major gamble with his team selection for the clash, and it has already backfired in his face in drastic fashion.

Mohammed Kudus has to come on for Brennan Johnson

Mohammed Kudus was left on the bench for Tottenham in a bizarre selection decision by Thomas Frank, and he is already being made to pay for his pre-match call.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The former West Ham star has been Spurs’ most creative player in the early stages of the season, and the decision to leave him on the bench was an immediate eyebrow raiser prior to kick-off.

Kudus’ replacement on the right flank is Brennan Johnson, and he has turned in a simply dismal first-half display.

The wideman has struggled to have any sort of impact in the game, apart from when he skewed a volley miles over the bar following a Wilson Odobert corner.

Johnson won just 50% of his duels and has offered next to nothing in terms of creative outlet, having had only 19 touches during the first half.

Tottenham have had just five touches inside their hosts’ penalty area, and they desperately need the energy and direct running that Kudus can provide.

The decision to rest Kudus was baffling in the first place, but Frank surely has to quickly accept that he has made a significant error and address it by bringing the 25-year-old on before it’s too late.

Tottenham have to stop inviting pressure

Tottenham sat back against Villarreal in the second half of their last Champions League outing, and they are attempting to play their hosts on the break once again here.

That is allowing Bodo/Glimt to get a real foothold in terms of possession, and they have spent a large chunk of the first half camped in the Spurs half.

The Lilywhites simply have to get up the pitch and try and impose themselves on the game a little more; they have far superior quality to their opponents, and getting on the front foot will hugely turn the pattern of the game.

If they continue to sit back and try and counter-attack, the result is unfortunately only going one way.

Tottenham push through latest high-profile change as more Daniel Levy ties cut - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Daniel Levy’s recent exit ramped up speculation that Tottenham could soon be up for sale.

Levy’s exit from Spurs was announced on 4 September, ending a near 25-year association with the North London side.

ENIC have since stated Tottenham’s not for sale, having been involved with Spurs since the late 1990s.

That stance was held both before and after news emerged last week of Brooklyn Earick’s plans to lead a £4.5billion takeover of Spurs.

While the stance of those high up at Tottenham has been reiterated numerous times, it has done little to quiet the speculation of what could be next.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tottenham split from Rothschild & Co

It was recently reported that Tottenham were planning to split from Rothschild & Co, who became linked with Spurs in April 2024 under Levy’s watch.

According to Matt Slater of The Athletic on 30 September, that split is now official.

Spurs are said to have thanked Rothschild & Co for their services, with this move strengthening the suggestion that the Lilywhites are indeed not for sale.

Joe Lewis has cut yet another tie linking the Levy era to this new era at Spurs, with the mega-rich businessman clearly content.

British law firm Dickson Minto will continue to provide independent advice, it is reported, in the absence of Rothschild & Co.

Does Joe Lewis have any intention of selling Tottenham?

As pointed out by football finance expert Stefan Borson on X, Lewis and those high up and Spurs are giving every indication that Tottenham will not be sold.

Not only that, there does not appear to be any willingness to so much as engage with others, whether that be Earick or any other pretenders.

ENIC, which is controlled by Joe Lewis and his family, owns around 87 per cent of Spurs’ shares. The Levy trust owns roughly 26 per cent of Tottenham.

While fans will be excited by recent talk of a multi-billion-pound takeover, it seems there is no real chance of that happening anytime soon.

Thomas Frank has made the worst decision of his Tottenham reign, it could cost him vs Bodo/Glimt - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Thomas Frank has made an excellent start to his Tottenham reign in recent weeks.

The Dane has rightly received plenty of plaudits for the impact that he has already had in N17, despite the fact that he only arrived in the summer.

Frank has already made Tottenham a much tougher proposition for opposition teams, although Saturday’s draw with Wolves was a frustrating setback in their bright start to the campaign.

The new boss has his team flying high in the early-season Premier League table, but he has let himself down with this decision, and it could come back to bite him very quickly.

Thomas Frank is massively wrong to drop Mohammed Kudus

Mohammed Kudus has made a brilliant start to his Tottenham career and has arguably been their player of the season so far.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The Lilywhites shelled out £55million to bring the Ghana international across London from West Ham in the summer, but he has already made that fee look like a bargain with his performances.

Kudus has been electric in his opening few outings for his new club and has been the primary threat for Spurs in almost every game.

With that in mind, it is a simply baffling decision from Frank to leave him on the bench for Tuesday’s Champions League clash away at Bodo/Glimt.

Kudus has completed over 68% of his passes in the opposition half in the Premier League so far in 2025-26, and Spurs will miss his bravery on the ball in the final third.

The former Brentford boss has been largely faultless in his decision-making since coming in, but he has surely got it massively wrong on this occasion.

He has effectively tied both hands behind his back by leaving his main creative outlet on the bench to face the Norwegian outfit, and it’s fair to suggest that this could be the worst decision of his Spurs tenure so far.

Bodo/Glimt is a banana skin for Tottenham

Kudus’ impact at Tottenham has been immense during his short time with the club so far, and Frank has certainly made Tuesday’s task that bit harder by leaving him on the bench for the game.

Bodo/Glimt produced a late rally to secure a draw at Slavia Prague in the opening game of their European campaign, and you have to go back a staggering 23 games since the last time they failed to find the back of the net.

Throw in the fact that conditions in the Arctic Circle could well be difficult for the North Londoners, and Tuesday night’s assignment certainly isn’t as easy as it looks for them on paper.

With that in mind, the decision to rest Kudus is a bizarre one, and Frank could easily live to regret it if his side cannot secure a favourable result.
