Tottenham: ENIC have a lot to answer for as largest revenue drop predicted with relegation - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tottenham Hotspur‘s owners have a lot to answer for if they get relegated, with predictions of a historic revenue drop-off predicted.

Spurs headed into the March international break just one point and one place ahead of the Premier League’s relegation zone after a bruising 3-0 loss to lowly Nottingham Forest.

Speculation is rife that Tottenham may make their third managerial change of the season and fourth within a year if Igor Tudor is sacked.

This comes in the same 12 months as Tottenham lifted the Europa League trophy and stormed into the last 16 of the Champions League with a commanding league phase campaign.

Tottenham have been predicted to suffer a financial loss of around £250million if they drop into the Championship, despite all of former executive chairman Daniel Levy’s efforts to make them profitable.

Financial expert lays out bleak picture for Tottenham

According to football finance expert Stefan Borson, Tottenham won’t lose as much as £300-350m if they get relegated, as some have claimed.

But missing out on all that Premier League, broadcast, and UEFA revenue will be huge.

Borson said on talkSPORT on Thursday: “I wouldn’t go as high as that, but I think you could be confident at £200-250m.

“It’s obviously going to be the largest one-year dip in revenue of any football club ever, anywhere in the world.

“It is not a normal situation for a club of Tottenham’s size to lose Premier League status and to go from the Champions League to zero overnight, which is what would happen if they were relegated.”

Borson also pointed out that matchday and broadcast revenue will take a significant hit, as ticket prices and attendances are likely to drop, and they will be in a weaker position when negotiating front-of-shirt sponsors.

Levy did an excellent job of generating additional revenue as Tottenham Hotspur Stadium hosted musical concerts, NFL games, and more.

While that will help, along with parachute payments, they can only do so much.

How have Tottenham got into this mess?

While Tottenham ended their 17-year wait for a trophy last season, the warning signs were there in the Premier League.

Ange Postecoglou ultimately lost his job at Spurs after guiding the team to a 17th-placed finish, a position they sit in right now.

For so long, Tottenham fans blamed Levy for not flexing the club’s financial muscle enough and refusing to compete with the division’s top sides when it came to wages.

Now that he is gone, Tottenham supporters are pointing the finger at ENIC, sporting director Johan Lange for his questionable signings, and CEO Vinai Venkatesham, who was previously Arsenal’s CEO.

It seems Tottenham figureheads have been asleep behind the wheel, with their recruitment in recent years simply not being good enough.

However, it would be remiss of me not to discuss their injury issues. For most of the past two seasons, the club has had a horrendous injury list, sometimes hitting double figures.

Is that down to their intense training and style of play? A below-par medical department? Players not being fit and durable enough? It seems Tottenham’s foundations were not very secure, and this perfect storm has caught them out badly.

There are a myriad of issues at Spurs, and if they go down, heads should roll.

Tottenham rely too much on Mohammed Kudus, his injury recovery will decide relegation fate

Tottenham rely too much on Mohammed Kudus, his injury recovery will decide relegation fate - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have been a much worse team without Mohammed Kudus.

The 25-year-old forward has been absent since early January after suffering a thigh injury, and his setback worsened the steady slide down the Premier League table.

Kudus was signed from West Ham in a £55million deal last summer and impressed for Spurs before being consigned to the treatment table, from which he is yet to return.

He registered nine goal contributions across all competitions, including six assists in the top-flight, before his fitness blow, and the club have sorely missed his creative talents.

But, in a major boost for Tottenham’s relegation fight, Kudus will soon return from injury.

When will Mohammed Kudus return for Tottenham?

According to journalist Alasdair Gold, the Ghana international is expected to be back 10 days after the current international break, having already missed a couple of months.

Kudus last featured for Spurs in the 1-1 draw with Sunderland on January 4, and his absence over the past 16 matches has coincided with the club losing 10 of them.

The attacker is now back on the grass and is expected to re-join full training with his team-mates in the not-too-distant future, although a confirmed return date has not been set.

Considering Kudus’ £150,000 per week wage totals around £7.8m for the year, Spurs will be desperate for the former Ajax man to get back fit and firing and keep them in the top-flight.

Tottenham certainly took no risks with his injury, sending him out to a specialist in Amsterdam, and it has been mooted that he could play against Sunderland on April 12.

While they will not want to rush him, he has already proven himself indispensable.

Spurs’ misfiring attack needs Kudus

Thomas Frank was made to fall on his own sword over his bland football, and Igor Tudor, who could depart by mutual consent during the international break, hasn’t fared much better.

Despite the wider tactical failings, Kudus showed promising glimpses of the electric form that convinced Spurs to splash the cash on him, picking up two assists on his debut.

In truth, Tottenham’s squad should be embarrassed by their form in Kudus’ absence. It cannot be denied that they would arguably be in a much gloomier position without him.

According to Sofascore, Kudus made 33 key passes and recorded a pass completion of 85.6 per cent before his injury, but it was his ability when running with the ball that caught the eye.

Indeed, he registered an average of 3.1 successful dribbles every match, and an impressive total of 66 over the campaign to date, which helped lead Spurs up the pitch.

Simply, they need his maverick talent to settle tight matches, with just seven remaining in their scrap to avoid dropping into the Championship. Kudus can’t return soon enough.

Tottenham fans may want to reconsider Postecoglou stance amid strikingly similar Tudor comparison - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tottenham Hotspur fans that are calling for Ange Postecoglou to replace Igor Tudor may need to think again.

Postecoglou was sacked by Tottenham for their underperformance in the Premier League after leading them to a 17th-placed finish in 2024-25.

Although the 60-year-old won the Europa League in his final game, Daniel Levy decided to replace him with Thomas Frank in the summer, and that move certainly didn’t pay off yet.

Tudor replaced Frank in February, and as he is now on the verge of leaving Spurs by mutual consent, several names have been touted as his replacement in N17.

With Tottenham on the brink of relegation, some fans might be desperate for Postecoglou to return, but his record in the Premier League last season doesn’t suggest he has what it takes to keep Spurs up.

Ange Postecoglou matches Igor Tudor’s recent league record at Tottenham

It wasn’t long before the Australian was back in management this campaign, but his 39-day spell with Nottingham Forest ended disastrously on 18 October.

While Tudor’s failure to win a Premier League game in five attempts is unacceptable, that doesn’t mean Postecoglou will do much better.

In the Aussie’s last five Premier League games in charge of Spurs, he lost four of them, scoring three and conceding 14 goals in that time.

Tudor has an identical record in terms of points – well, point – but only saw his side score four and concede 13 times.

It must be said that Postecoglou prioritised the Europa League, and perhaps downing tools in the top flight led to Tottenham ending their 17-year trophy drought.

But with seven games to go, Tottenham need someone who has recent success in the top flight, and the fact that the 60-year-old hasn’t won any of his last 12 league games across both spells at Spurs and Nottingham Forest is incredibly damning.

With a total win percentage of 46.5 per cent, Postecolou’s was one of the lowest in Spurs’ history, but the fact he won silverware more than clouded that.

However, his recent comments about Tottenham’s ambitions in an interview in February were scathing.

Why Tottenham will never hire Postecoglou again

In an interview with The Overlap podcast in February, the Aussie claimed that he wanted to sign Pedro Neto, Bryan Mbeumo, Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi, but wasn’t allowed to do so by the board.

He also said that Tottenham’s ‘To Dare Is To Do’ motto wasn’t something that the board stood by through their actions in the transfer market.

Although there have been several changes behind the scenes in the last 12 months, those messages certainly won’t have gone down well with the Spurs hierarchy.

His open style of football simply isn’t what Tottenham will need in a relegation battle, and while he has a positive relationship with the players, Spurs need to keep it simple for the rest of the season.

Appointing a former player who understands the club well is what is needed, and Postecoglou’s hopes of returning to Spurs now are certainly far-fetched.

Especially given his recent history in the Premier League.

Conor Gallagher has been dreadful since joining Tottenham Hotspur from Atletico Madrid.

With Spurs at serious risk of relegation from the Premier League, questions are being asked constantly as to why they find themselves in their current predicament.

Whether it be a lack of character, poor managerial appointments or some abhorrent recruitment, they have all played a part.

When Gallagher arrived from Atletico Madrid, his experience was supposed to have a positive influence on Tottenham, but it has done nothing of the sort.

What is Conor Gallagher good for?

£35million may not seem like a lot, but given the lack of influence that Gallagher has had at Tottenham, it certainly is.

The former Chelsea man has found himself on the bench in each of the last four games, and given his performances, he has no right to complain.

First and foremost, Gallagher has lacked the fight that Spurs have so desperately needed in their midfield, and that is showcased by the fact that he has won just 45.1 per cent of his duels.

On top of that, his 202 completed passes place him among the bottom 10.8 per cent of Premier League midfielders, with a completion rate of just 80.5 per cent.

Gallagher has offered nothing in the final third aside from his one assist, while also showing how incapable he is off the ball.

With a contract in North London until 2031, Spurs look to have made yet another big recruitment error by signing him.

Will Gallagher start again for Tottenham?

Whether he will or whether he should are two different things, but there’s a case to be had that the answer to both questions is no.

Spurs are lacking quality all over the pitch, but Gallagher has shown that he is far less willing to fight for Tottenham in comparison to some of their other midfield options.

Archie Gray in particular, has made that position his own, while several others have shown that they have a lot more to offer than Gallagher.

He’ll have a role to play between now and the end of May, but starting him would make very little sense given what he has shown so far.

Dejan Kulusevski gives Igor Tudor hope yet as Tottenham finally get welcome injury news - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Dejan Kulusevski has allayed fresh concerns over his long-term knee issue by insisting it is “great now”, a major boost to Tottenham Hotspur in their relegation fight.

The winger has not featured for Spurs since last May after suffering an injury to his right patella, which forced him to sit out of the Europa League final success.

The Swede underwent surgery and was expected to return in December. However, a string of setbacks has delayed his recovery process, and he remains on the treatment table.

Worrying images of him seemingly limping while on international duty with Sweden earlier this week sounded the alarm bells in N17, but he has now provided clarification.

Kulusevski’s positive injury update will be warmly received at Tottenham ahead of a make-or-break run of fixtures, and his club have certainly missed him.

What has Dejan Kulusevski said about his injury?

The 25-year-old directly addressed the footage of him walking gingerly in Sweden’s training camp, revealing he had recently gone under the knife for a second corrective procedure.

Writing on his Instagram story, Kulusevski said: “Just to clarify things. I’m limping because I had a small intervention in the knee two weeks ago.

“Went in and took out what was not supposed to be there. Knee is great now.

“Thanks for all the support. God is the greatest. Always.”

Earlier this month, Spurs interim head coach Igor Tudor admitted there was no new update on Kulusevski’s recovery, suggesting he will not be available before the end of the season.

He has scored 25 goals and registered 30 assists in his 146 appearances for the club since joining from Juventus in January 2022, and quickly became a crucial player.

Clearly, then, Kulusevski limping was the last thing Tottenham needed.

How important is Kulusevski to Tottenham?

Kulusevski was influential last season before it was cruelly cut short by injury.

According to Sofascore, he scored seven goals, provided four assists and completed 81 per cent of his passes in the Premier League, dazzling in a miserable domestic campaign.

But a glimpse at his overall time at North London shows an impressive consistency, a lofty benchmark which Tottenham have painfully fallen short of yet again this term.

In his maiden campaign at Spurs, Kulusevski scored five goals from his 10 shots on target across 20 appearances, and also recorded eight assists.

While his goal contributions dropped in 2022-23, he again boasted eight assists to his name. Then, in 23-24, he netted eight times in all competitions while making 66 key passes.

He earned an average Sofascore rating of just below seven last season, but his team-mates have barely performed to the same standard this time out, resulting in a relegation dogfight.

They will hope that he makes a miraculous return sooner rather than later.

Tottenham faced with Alfie Devine dilemma as impressive Preston form continues - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tottenham Hotspur should be delighted with the progress made by Alfie Devine.

Devine has always been one of the most promising prospects to come from Tottenham’s academy, and this season has allowed him to showcase his true potential.

Since joining Preston on loan last summer, the 21-year-old has gone from strength to strength, with consistency being the biggest part of his game.

With eight goals in the Championship this season, Devine is one of the highest-scoring midfielders in the division, having also showcased plenty of talent in other areas of his game.

However, with plenty of uncertainty about which division Tottenham will be in next season, as well as who will still be at the club, they will be faced with a big dilemma when it comes to deciding his future.

How has Alfie Devine fared for Preston?

This is Devine’s fourth loan spell of his career, but it has also been by far the most beneficial in terms of his development

The 21-year-old has already made 41 appearances across all competitions for them, having also had a hand in 11 of their goals in that time.

But it hasn’t just been his goal contributions that have seen him earn the attention he has received, but instead his all-round game, which could be of use to Spurs next season.

Only 11 per cent of Championship midfielders have created more chances than him, while only 10 per cent of players have won possession in the final third more than him.

Devin has showcased his ability at both ends of the pitch, and at 21 years old, he is still getting better with each game that he plays.

What comes next for Devine at Tottenham?

That will largely come down to what league they are in.

If Tottenham stay in the Premier League, then there is every chance they look to secure one more loan move for Devine, but perhaps this time at the lower end of the top flight.

Should they fail in their attempts to avoid relegation, then the 21-year-old would be an excellent option to have in midfield next season, especially given his emotional ties to the club.

Keith Wyness has heard that Tottenham Hotspur could now have the chance to sack Igor Tudor during the current international break in a move that is best for both parties.

Spurs are currently 17th in the Premier League, just one point above West Ham and the bottom three after crashing to an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Tudor wasn’t present for post-match media duties at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after the tragic passing of his father.

It has now been reported that Tudor could be sacked in the coming days, with replacements already lined up in North London.

Tottenham to sack Igor Tudor ahead of Sunderland showdown

Wyness believes that the Lilywhites need to be realistic that a change is needed again, revealing a case study from his time at Villa Park with Steve Bruce.

The ex-Aston Villa chief executive exclusively told Tottenham News that Spurs will let Tudor go in a classy way, with this a difficult time for the Croatian in his personal life too.

“Well, I had a parallel with this when I was at Aston Villa,” Wyness said.

“We were in the play-off places trying to get promoted back up to the Premier League and on the run-in Steve Bruce lost his father and his mother within a very short period of time and that made a big impact on the squad because Steve as a manager was very close to the players and that was his style of management as a man manager and it was a very difficult time to manage obviously personally for him but for the impact on the whole club it was difficult to lose his leadership focus at that time.

“I think for Spurs they’ve got to be realistic and realise as well that this may be a very difficult time for Igor to give his full focus as is needed, and you need 110 per cent right now, and it would obviously be understandable if his focus was to be elsewhere, and I think he would understand that as well.

“It may be, I think, you know, from all I’m hearing as we’re speaking, there may well be a chance now to part ways, give him some space to handle his own issues and then Spurs having to try and refresh coming into these last seven games.

“They’re in a very difficult position with a big away game away at Sunderland, who are coming in on the back of a big victory in that Wearside Derby.

“It’s a difficult match for Spurs to go away to so anything they can get and I think it may well be a new manager situation could be the case but it’s not confirmed but I think that may be the best solution for all parties involved and if they do it, I’m sure they’ll do it in a classy, elegant way and it may be the right way for that situation to move on.”

Who could replace Igor Tudor?

Roberto De Zerbi is the current favourite among many fans, although the Italian may want to wait until next season after recently leaving Marseille.

That is when the door will open for Mauricio Pochettino, too, who will be available following the 2026 World Cup with the United States.

Either way, with tough away games against the likes of Sunderland, Wolves and Chelsea to come soon, something needs to be done.

With Spurs not playing until 12 April at the Stadium of Light, they have plenty of time to sack Tudor and bring someone in to have two weeks of training before that trip.

Their Premier League status may depend on it.

Mathys Tel has been forced to withdraw from international duty after sustaining an injury in Tottenham Hotspur‘s defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Tel has not had the desired impact in the Premier League since making his move from Bayern a permanent one, but Igor Tudor has constantly picked him over several of his other attacking options.

The Frenchman has started his last five games for Spurs, managing just one assist in that time, but still keeping Xavi Simons out of the team.

However, with Tel forced to withdraw from international duty, Tudor, or whoever may be in charge, come the return of Premier League action, may have to turn back to Simons.

Xavi Simons must take Tottenham opportunity with both hands

Very similar to Tel, Simons has not set the Premier League alight since joining from the Bundesliga, though there have been some promising signs.

The Dutchman has four assists in the top flight for Spurs this season from 30 chances created, with six of those having been deemed as big chances.

However, he has found himself cast aside by Tudor in recent weeks, with just one start in their last five games across all competitions, and ironically scoring twice in it.

If Tel’s injury is to be worse than feared, then Spurs will have no choice but to get Simons back into the starting 11, and if so, he needs to showcase his worth.

Almost half of his nine goal contributions this season have come in the Champions League, and this could be his time to bring that form to the Premier League.

Simons could replace Tel, but the situation is still not ideal

Simons is at his best when playing centrally, which is something he has very rarely been afforded the chance to do at Tottenham.

He has been shoehorned in on the left wing, and while there have been games where he has impressed there, it’s clear that he needs to be in the middle.

In times like this, Spurs may need him to stay there in Tel’s absence, but going forward, they need to find a role for him in the middle to ensure they get the most out of him.

Dejan Kulusevski absence has been felt at Tottenham

It’s unclear when Kulusevski will be able to train again after undergoing knee surgery towards the end of last season, which saw him miss the Europa League final win over Manchester United.

The Sweden international was influential for Spurs in the previous campaign, scoring seven goals, providing four assists, creating nine big chances and completing 81 per cent of his passes in the Premier League, as per Sofacore.

In the 2024-25 season, Tottenham scored 1.7 goals per game in the English top flight and that has come down to 1.3 this time around.

In terms of creativity, the North London outfit created 2.6 big chances per game in the previous campaign compared to 1.7 this term, which is clearly a drastic decrease.

While the Lilywhites have had several important attacking players missing in recent months, Kulusevski’s loss is undoubtedly having a major effect on them.

The former Juventus star had been consistently pulling the strings for Spurs before getting injured, creating 14 big chances in the league in the 2023-24 season, and fans in North London will surely be devastated to watch him struggle with his fitness right now.

Spurs have new undroppable for Premier League survival

Igor Tudor will probably leave Tottenham before the March international breaks end and it would make sense for both parties to part ways after the Croatian manager’s recent family bereavement.

Xavi Simons was surprisingly dropped to the bench against Nottingham Forest despite his impressive performance in the second leg of the Champions League last-16 with Atletico Madrid.

The Netherlands international played the last 23 minutes of the 3-0 loss to the Tricky Trees at home, but there wasn’t much time for him to make a significant impact.

Whoever is in the Spurs dugout to face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on 12 April should start Simons in the midfield to have the best chance of getting three points.

Tottenham Hotspur‘s Luka Vuskovic has become one of the brightest prospects in European football after excelling on loan at Hamburg.

Vuskovic joined Hamburg on loan despite there being many calls for him to play a part in the senior team under Thomas Frank.

However, the move to Germany has paid off for all parties, with the 18-year-old featuring 26 times in all competitions this season.

With five Bundesliga goals already, the Croatian centre-back has been a huge asset to the German outfit.

However, with Tottenham fighting in a relegation battle, fans will be frustrated that they are unable to use one of their best defenders in Vuskovic.

Luka Vuskovic’s quality is dearly missed by Tottenham in relegation battle

Vuskovic signed for Tottenham in 2023, with an agreement in place that he would stay at Hajduk Split until 2025.

However, it was decided that regular game time was best for development, and Hamburg swooped in to sign Vuskovic on a one-year loan deal.

The centre-back has completed 100 per cent of his dribbles and won 182 ground duels – the most of any player in the Bundesliga.

According to Sofascore, he has achieved a pass accuracy of 83 per cent and a long ball accuracy of 41.7 per cent, showcasing his strengths in possession as well.

Vuskovic has exceeded expectations at Hamburg and etched his name into club history after scoring their first goal in the Bundesliga in 2,688 days in September.

At just 18, he is taking Europe by storm, and Tottenham fans will be anticipating him making an impact on the squad next season.

And while his development is good for Spurs in the long run, they could desperately use his aerial ability as relegation nears.

After every poor result, Tottenham’s centre-backs come under heavy fire, and it’s painful how Spurs have a phenomenal talent on loan that can’t help them escape their unthinkable predicament.

How high is Luka Vuskovic’s ceiling?

Tottenham already have a host of promising centre-backs, with Kota Takai and Ashley Phillips also set to be in contention to fight for their place in the first team.

Of course, it would be a huge task to displace Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero from their starting positions, but Vuskovic is certainly someone who could arguably start over them now.

Standing tall at 1.93 metres, the 18-year-old has certainly got the potential to be a starter for the Lilywhites in the coming years.

With the market for talented young centre-backs seemingly scarce at the moment, the deal to sign Vuskovic and slowly develop him at different clubs looks to be a masterstroke, and there is no reason to say that he can’t become one of the best defenders in the world.

However, if Spurs drop into the Championship, they find it tough to keep him in N17.
