Thomas Frank could be sacked this week as Tottenham boss.

Spurs lost 2-1 to West Ham on Saturday, piling even more pressure on the Dane, with full-time boos from supporters saying everything that the Lewis family need to know.

The Lilywhites are 14th in the Premier League, just two points away from Leeds United, who are considered relegation candidates.

Frank is going to be given the match against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday to show signs that he can turn things around, but a loss could spell the end of the former Brentford manager’s time at N17.

It appears that Joe Lewis and other internal figures at the club have already started preparing in the event of Frank‘s dismissal.

Tottenham have already reached out to Michael Carrick as Thomas Frank replacement

Frank’s sack almost seems inevitable, as the suggestions are that if the Lilywhites were to pull the trigger, then the Lewis family would most likely hire a caretaker manager until the end of the season.

This would allow time for Tottenham to conduct a thorough process of hiring a successor, and someone who can deliver on both the short-term and long-term targets.

According to talkSPORT on Tuesday, Spurs made contact with Michael Carrick about the possibility of coming back to Tottenham before he took the job at Manchester United.

The former Middlesbrough boss would have been a contender to become Tottenham’s interim head coach, with speculation gathering around Frank.

Carrick is set to stay at Man United until the end of this campaign, where it’s thought he would then be open to another Premier League gig.

Could Spurs really go for Carrick in the summer?

Carrick is said to have taken the Man United job with full expectation that the Red Devils would appoint someone else in the summer.

The ex-Spurs midfielder has shown signs of his ability to lead for a big club, and if he continues to impress at Man United, he could be a real option for the Lilywhites permanently.

Ryan Mason was recently sacked by West Brom, and there’s a possibility that he, like Carrick, could soon return to a club where he’s previously managed in a caretaker role.

This would then open the door for the Lilywhites to further assess how Carrick develops at Man United, and possibly make a move in the summer.

Tottenham must push limits for star who gives defenders ‘headaches’ amid Oscar Bobb latest

Tottenham’s attacking targets are being narrowed down ahead of the closing stages of the January transfer window.

Thomas Frank’s future at Spurs is still in doubt, but the reality is that the Lilywhites still need to progress with transfers this month.

Tottenham have a long list of attacking options that have been shortlisted, as Manchester City’s Oscar Bobb appeared to be in Johan Lange’s thinking.

Mohammed Kudus’ new injury blow has added extra importance to Tottenham signing another right-winger this month, but Bobb now looks out of the question.

However, Lange does have a backup plan.

Tottenham to put gas on Maghnes Akliouche deal after Oscar Bobb exit talks

As reported by Fabrizio Romano on Tuesday, Fulham are advancing in a £35million deal to sign Bobb from Man City.

Bar a last-minute swoop from the Lilywhites, Spurs will probably need to look elsewhere in the coming days, with Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche almost certainly the man to go for.

Spurs have been heavily linked with Akliouche in recent weeks, as the winger continues to impress in Ligue 1 this season.

Monaco understands that the Lilywhites are interested in their prized possession, with reports suggesting that Tottenham have tracked the 23-year-old for some time.

However, the French side rates Akliouche highly, and it would take a big-money offer to tempt them into selling their asset.

Akliouche causes opponents nightmares

Kudus is set to be sidelined until April, which comes as a massive blow, particularly for Frank.

The Spurs boss has come under criticism for his attacking philosophy this campaign, and things have only seemed to click in the final third when Kudus has been playing.

The Lewis family could give Frank one final roll of the dice by bringing Akliouche on board, who has gained rave reviews in France.

Akliouche’s stats for Monaco last season (all competitions):

Monaco Tribune said that Akliouche gives defenders a “headache” when they play the winger, who has unpredictable “technical brilliance”.

The main attributes that he could bring to N17 are his dribbling and chance creation abilities. Spurs have missed a spark in attack for too long this season, and Akliouche poses a realistic and feasible transfer.

Robbie Keane now in pole position to be next Tottenham manager as he agrees Premier League deal

Robbie Keane is now the leading contender to replace Thomas Frank as Tottenham’s manager.

After Spurs lost 2-1 at home against West Ham on Saturday, Frank is under more scrutiny than ever.

One journalist has revealed that Frank has been “all but sacked” ahead of Tottenham’s clash with Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Frank has held talks with Spurs’ hierarchy since losing to West Ham, and it looks as though the Dane’s job is safe for now.

However, the fact remains that Frank has to start turning the tide if he wants to keep hold of his job at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, especially now that ex-Spurs striker Keane is breathing down his neck.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Robbie Keane joint-favourite to replace Thomas Frank

Ferencvaros manager Keane is now the 3/1 joint-favourite to be Tottenham‘s next permanent manager, according to one major bookmaker.

Odds have been slashed on the Irishman taking charge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after Frank oversaw that humiliating loss against London rivals West Ham at the weekend.

Keane had two spells as a player for Spurs from 2002 to 2008 and from 2009 to 2011 and has since gone into management, overseeing Maccabi Tel Aviv from 2023 to 2024, before joining Ferencvaros last year.

As per the bookies, Keane is level with Xavi Hernandez and Xabi Alonso in the running to take charge of Spurs, with all three at 3/1.

Mauricio Pochettino (4/1) is also a major contender, with Oliver Glasner (6/1) and Ruben Amorim (6/1) on the peripheries.

Marco Silva was with the Tottenham job in the summer, and even though he’s rejected the offer to sign a new contract at Fulham, he’s a 12/1 outsider at this stage.

What’s Keane done at Ferencvaros that warrants him getting the Tottenham job?

Sure, Keane is someone who’s been at Tottenham before and understands the club’s history, and it’s fanbase – but that doesn’t mean that he should be automatically linked with what is one of the most difficult managerial jobs in English football.

Spurs fans demand a lot, and they have every right to.

Daniel Levy built a financial behemoth during his time as Tottenham’s chairman and other than winning the Europa League title last season, the North London club has continually underachieved when their finances and silverware are stacked up against one another.

Keane is untested as a manager on these shores, though he has proven himself to be a winner with both Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ferencvaros, winning league titles there in each of the last two seasons.

Robbie Keane’s managerial stats:

However, they are expected titles, with Keane taking charge of what are arguably the biggest and best clubs in Israel and Hungary.

Ferencvaros, who sold star player Alex Toth to Premier League side Bournemouth on Tuesday, are currently second in the Hungarian top flight but also sixth in the league stage of the Europa League.

In six Europa League matches, they’re unbeaten, despite playing against tough teams like Genk, RB Salzburg, Fenerbahce, Rangers and Midtjylland.

Honestly, Keane seems like a risky move. But Frank was tried and tested in the Premier League, and he’s been no good.

Description

Thomas Frank continues to have a huge say in Tottenham’s transfer business.

Spurs have let several players leave on loan in January, while the most high-profile sale was Brennan Johnson’s £35million move to Crystal Palace.

Tottenham’s recruitment hasn’t been good enough, and they’ve blown millions of pounds on players who haven’t made a big impact in recent seasons.

Frank remains under severe pressure, and it’s alarming that he still has full control over the future of Tottenham’s players.

Tottenham receive irresistible offer for Alejo Veliz

Frank clearly feels that several young players must leave Tottenham, and Alejo Veliz’s sale now looks imminent.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tottenham spent £13m to sign Veliz from Rosario Central in August 2023, with the hope that the striker would develop into a player capable of leading the line for them.

Veliz left Tottenham on loan for a return to Rosario Central in the summer, although that spell could be over very soon.

Argentinian media outlet El Ciudadano has now reported that Brazilian outfit Bahia have made a lucrative offer for the striker, which appears irresistible to Tottenham.

The saga is nearing its end, and this week seems to be decisive, with Spurs set to terminate the remaining six months of the striker’s loan to Rosario Central in order to facilitate a move to Bahia.

Tottenham have already received an offer of £8.6m for Veliz from Brazilian side North Esporte Clube, and there is a lot of competition for the Argentine.

Having been at Spurs for over two years, the move clearly hasn’t worked out, and it’s now just a matter of time before he is let go permanently.

While the final destination isn’t certain, Bahia now appear to be the frontrunners to secure his services, and Spurs will gladly accept their multi-million-pound fee.

Why Tottenham are getting a great deal for Veliz

Spurs fans will look at him as a wonderkid with a lot of failed potential, yet they aren’t set to lose much money on him.

While Bahia’s bid is unclear, it’s definitely over £8.6m, and Spurs will get away with a poor piece of business if they manage to break even.

Veliz has rediscovered his form with Rosario Central, scoring five goals in 16 appearances.

At just 22, he still has a lot of time to reach the highest level, but he clearly isn’t fit to star in the Premier League at this moment.

Spurs have had issues finding a reliable goalscorer, and Veliz is yet another player who has failed to live up to expectations in N17.

Luckily, Tottenham seem to be getting back the majority of the fee they paid for him.

Description

Thomas Frank will remain in charge of Tottenham for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund.

Frank confirmed he has held talks with Tottenham chiefs at his pre-match press conference on Monday afternoon.

That comes amid strong suggestions that Frank was on the verge of being sacked by Tottenham at the weekend.

Spurs were beaten 2-1 at home to West Ham and are 14th in the Premier League with 22 matches of the season played.

Focus turns to European action on Tuesday and the visit of Dortmund, with the match set to be played out in front of rather embarrassing scenes.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tottenham fans to stay away despite huge Borussia Dortmund clash

Tottenham are 11th in the Champions League standings, which would see them through to a last-16 playoff as things stand.

That would be considered a success of sorts, though there is still work to be done with two matches – the other being away at Eintracht Frankfurt next week – for that to be confirmed.

Spurs could yet finish in the top eight, though, with only one point separating themselves and Atletico Madrid in the final automatic qualification spot.

The visit of 10th-placed Dortmund really is huge for Spurs, then, but the game is not expected to be sold out.

In a post on X on Monday evening, Sun reporter Jake Sanders posted: “Massive Champions League game for Tottenham tomorrow.

“[It’s] likely to be played in front of thousands of empty seats with a dozen players out and a manager taking charge who has all-but been sacked. Fans in the dark about what’s next. Complete mess.“

Sanders is correct in what he says about fans effectively growing disillusioned, with many now just waiting for the inevitable and for Frank to be sacked.

And it means Spurs are open to ridicule as they play such a huge game, embarrassingly, in front of thousands of empty seats.

What is needed for Tottenham to advance in the Champions League?

Spurs were comfortable 3-0 winners over Slavia Prague in their most recent Champions League outing prior to Christmas.

That followed a brave 5-3 defeat away at Paris Saint-Germain and a 4-0 home win over Monaco, so results have been encouraging on the whole.

There are still plenty of permutations that could see Spurs finish in the top eight, the top 16, or indeed outside the entire lot.

Ultimately, it is just a case of Frank’s side winning both remaining matches. Achieve that, and there is every chance of being in the last 16 without the need of a playoff.

The big question, though, is whether Frank will still be in place when those knockout fixtures come around next month.

Description

Lucas Bergvall is one of Tottenham’s most talented players.

The 19-year-old midfielder is one of the brightest prospects in England, and he has already been incredibly important for Spurs in the last 18 months.

Despite Tottenham’s turbulent 2024-25 season under Ange Postecoglou, Bergvall played a significant role in the Europa League win, featuring 12 times as Tottenham beat Manchester United 1-0 in the final.

Bergvall hasn’t been utilised well by Thomas Frank, and he’ll be hoping for more game time in the remainder of the campaign.

Lucas Bergvall reacts to his brother’s January transfer

Bergvall made his senior debut for Swedish side Brommapojkarna at the age of 15, with his bright performances earning him a move to Djurgardens.

MORE SPURS STORIES

As a 17-year-old, Bergvall then joined Tottenham in 2024 and was tipped as one of the biggest prospects in European football.

Spurs have a tendency to sign young talents and develop them out on loan, yet the Sweden international was instantly thrown into first-team action, showcasing his ability.

His younger brother, Theo, has followed a similar path, and the 21-year-old has just completed a move from Djurgardens to Swiss side FC Lausanne-Sport.

Bergvall reacted to the news on social media as he posted a love-eyes emoji, a flam and a clapping hands emoji.

Bergvall has had a meteoric rise in the world of football, with just three years separating his first senior appearance and his first call-up to the Swedish national team.

Thomas Frank has failed Bergvall this season

Harry Redknapp tipped Bergvall to impress this season, but Frank hasn’t relied on him as much as he should.

He is yet to earn a consistent run of starts in any competition, albeit he has had injury issues, and the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur and Joao Palhinha continue to be selected over him.

Frank has been slammed for Tottenham’s lack of creativity, yet Bergvall would be a huge asset if the Dane wanted to address that problem.

It’s clear that Spurs have a top player on their hands, and the fact that he hasn’t been sent out on loan like many other young players shows his value to the team already.

Frank now has the task of getting the best out of him, but his lack of faith in Bergvall could contribute to his sacking in the coming weeks.

Ange Postecoglou was in the Tottenham hotseat for a number of signings, even if he only lasted a couple of seasons in North London.

Postecoglou is in the running for a return to the Premier League, though his time with Spurs causes more than a fair bit of divide.

The Australian landed Tottenham some rare silverware with the memorable Europa League triumph victory, but it is fair to see he flopped domestically last season.

With Thomas Frank under intense pressure at Tottenham, many are wondering whether it was right to part company with Postecoglou in the summer.

And one of the signings Postecoglou personally pitched to sign at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could himself be on his way out this month.

Radu Dragusin to Roma transfer latest as two clubs circle

Roma have long been interested in signing Radu Dragusin from Spurs now that he is back from injury.

Dragusin has made just one appearance this season, however, with that coming in Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace last month.

The Romania international has since been an unused substitute in five successive Tottenham matches.

It is becoming increasingly clear that Dragusin’s days in North London are numbered, and a new report from Corriere dello Sport has now shed light on the latest.

Roma are said to remain interested in signing the centre-back before the transfer window closes this month, while Bundesliga side RB Leipzig also retain an interest.

It is implied that a Spurs exit could be near, but it is less clear where exactly Dragusin will end up.

What did Ange Postecoglou say about Dragusin joining Spurs?

Postecoglou revealed upon Dragusin joining Spurs in January 2024 that he held personal conversations with the defender beforehand.

Reports at the time also indicated that it was Postecoglou who pushed for the Lilywhites to sign Dragusin when they did.

“We signed him because we saw some really strong attributes in him in terms of his defending capabilities, his mindset,” Postecoglou said.

It is fair to say Dragusin has never really repaid that initial faith, and his exit will not exactly send ripples through the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

What does need to happen, though, is the money brought in from his sale is invested straight back into the squad this month.

Mathys Tel could be closer to Tottenham exit after confirmed brutal Thomas Frank call

Mathys Tel could be closer to Tottenham exit after confirmed brutal Thomas Frank call - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Mathys Tel’s Tottenham career could already be coming to an end.

After spending the second half of the 2024-25 campaign on loan from Bayern Munich, Tel joined Spurs permanently for £30million in the summer, becoming Thomas Frank’s first signing.

In Tottenham’s 2-1 loss to West Ham on Saturday, he was given a rare start and impressed on the left wing, but was unfairly subbed off after 62 minutes, and Frank certainly seems to have an agenda against the winger.

Tel already wants to leave Tottenham due to the lack of game time this season, and Frank’s latest decision will certainly contribute to his growing frustration in N17.

Thomas Frank drops Mathys Tel from Champions League squad again

Frank had to choose between Tel and Dominic Solanke over who gets the last spot in the matchday squad for Tuesday’s clash with Borussia Dortmund at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Frank then confirmed in his press conference on Monday that Tel has been removed from his Champions League squad.

The decision hasn’t encouraged the 20-year-old to remain at the club, and Spurs should brace themselves for his potential departure.

Indeed, reports emerged soon after Frank’s call that Tel and his camp are not happy with the treatment.

At the start of the season, Mathys Tel was left out of Tottenham’s Champions League squad, with Frank unable to find a place for the French winger.

Spurs registered Tel for their 3-0 win over Slavia Prague back in December, with Solanke out injured.

However, he has now been omitted once again in place of the English striker, and there looks to be no way back for the Frenchman as long as Frank is in charge.

Solanke is hardly reliable, and even though he’ll be a welcome addition to the team, Tel must be convinced that it’s time for him to leave Spurs.

The treatment of Tel has been a disgrace

It’s abundantly clear that Tel hasn’t been on fire in front of goal this season.

However, he has been harshly treated, given that several other attackers in the squad have offered less going forward.

In his press conference, Frank admitted he was frustrated that he had to remove Tel instead of a currently injured player, and that had Tel been able to stay in, he would’ve started tomorrow.

If the Frenchman would have started against Dortmund, then it begs the question as to why he would be the person to drop out.

According to FotMob, Tel registers 2.22 shots and 2.05 successful dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League, and he is one of Spurs’ biggest goal threats.

Winning 6.32 duels per 90 also cements him as someone who works his socks off for the team, and it’s alarming that he continues to be snubbed.

Fans have every right not to trust Frank, and this latest decision hardly eases their worries.

Thomas Frank spoke to the assembled press on Monday afternoon amid ongoing talk regarding his future as Tottenham boss.

Frank looked to be on the verge of being sacked by Tottenham at the weekend after another disappointing display and result.

Tottenham were beaten 2-1 by strugglers West Ham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in another example of why Frank is not cut out for the job.

However, Frank spoke at his Tottenham press conference as planned on Monday afternoon to look ahead to Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund.

Thomas Frank reacts to Tottenham sack talk

Reports emerged on Sunday that Spurs would give Frank the Dortmund game at the very least, but his future still remains incredibly unclear.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Even a victory in that game may not be enough to save the Dane, who was only appointed as Ange Postecoglou’s replacement in the summer.

Spurs have no replacements lined up for Frank, but that cannot get in the way of sacking the former Brentford boss.

Frank was inevitably asked about all the talk surrounding his future at his press conference.

“I’ve just been feeling the trust along the way,” Frank said. “I’ve said that every press meeting. I had lunch with Nick [Montgomery], Johan [Lange] and Vinai [Venkatesham] today and all good.

“I know it’s all part of the media circus and the only thing I can do is focus on the Borussia Dortmund game.“

“I haven’t heard anything like that in football where someone says ‘hey mate, if you win tomorrow no problem, if you lose tomorrow no problem’.

“It was a conversation about life and football. All I would say is if there’s a storm or bad weather people normally run away, they’re not being friendly and having lunch.“

Frank revealing talks with Venkatesham among others, and that all is good, will certainly not go down too well with angry Spurs fans who want him gone.

Frank unable to use player he wanted to start vs Dortmund – here’s why

Frank also confirmed at his press conference that he has brought Dominic Solanke back into Spurs’ Champions League squad in place of Mathys Tel.

As per UEFA rules, Frank had to choose between the two as Tel replaced the injured Solanke in Spurs’ European squad before Christmas.

Now that Solanke is back, Frank has opted to go with the England international.

However, Frank also admitted Tel would have started against Dortmund had it not been for this rule.

Joao Palhinha has also been ruled out, meanwhile, so the problems continue to pile up for under-pressure Frank.

Thomas Frank is under huge pressure at Tottenham, and he now has to make a big decision ahead of their game against Borussia Dortmund.

Tottenham were beaten 2-1 by West Ham United on Saturday, with Callum Wilson’s last-minute winner leaving Frank’s future at Spurs in the balance.

The Dane looks set to stay on for the visit of Dortmund on Tuesday, in what is a crucial Champions League clash.

Spurs currently sit 11th in the group phase of the competition, just a single point off eighth, which would guarantee them a place in the last 16.

However, Frank will be forced to drop one of his first-team players for the night because of UEFA.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Frank to choose between Mathys Tel and Dominic Solanke

At the start of the season, Mathys Tel was left out of Tottenham’s Champions League squad, with Frank unable to find a spot for the French winger.

Spurs made use of a UEFA rule to register Tel for their 3-0 win over Slavia Prague back in December, with Dominic Solanke out injured.

However, with Solanke now back in and around the first team, Frank must decide whether to drop the former Bayern Munich man or leave the situation as it is.

The UEFA rule about replacing injured players was only in effect until the sixth game of the group phase, so Solanke cannot come in for one of his other Spurs teammates on the treatment table.

He can only switch back with Tel, meaning it is a straight shootout between the duo for who is included in the squad.

Who will Thomas Frank choose?

In ideal circumstances, Frank would want to be able to utilise both Tel and Solanke against Dortmund, as Tottenham look to try and finish in the top eight.

However, given that he can only pick one, the Dane will have to decide which of the two is more important.

Tel has shown glimpses of form over the past few weeks, but has only managed three Premier League goal contributions across the whole season.

Solanke is more than capable of making an impact, although it is unknown whether the centre-forward can last a full 90 minutes yet.

Frank will likely opt for Solanke, given the goal threat he brings, but it will be a bitter blow for Tel to be dropped again.
