Luka Vuskovic will not return to Tottenham next season

Luka Vuskovic will not return to Tottenham next season as he wants to remain at Hamburg, according to Paul O’Keefe.

Firstly, the teenager does not believe he is ready for Premier League football and to be playing for a club like Spurs.

Vuskovic has been very methodical with his career so far and wants to ensure he is regularly getting minutes to develop as a player.

Right now, it’s tricky to see him starting over Cristian Romero or Micky van de Ven, despite the Dutchman being linked with Liverpool.

Fill in the blank: Luka Vuskovic will be a ___________ replacement for Micky van de Ven…

He is also keen to play with his brother, Mario, next season, who also plays for Hamburg, but is currently serving a ban from football.

Tottenham will be disappointed by his decision, as the Croatian would still get plenty of minutes next season, even as just a squad option.

Bayern Munich were recently offered Vuskovic; however, the German giants have decided to decline the chance to sign him for now.

Luka Vuskovic impresses in Hamburg derby

Vuskovic really impressed in the Hamburg derby on Saturday, helping his team keep a clean sheet.

After the game, the German media were full of praise for the youngster and hailed his maturity in the derby.

Hamburger Abendblatt wrote: “The 18-year-old played with the composure of a 38-year-old in the derby.

“The defender was also once again the team’s most dangerous player in front of goal. That says a lot about HSV’s attacking problems.”

Tottenham Hotspur plan to make another approach for Xabi Alonso should they opt to part ways with Thomas Frank.

Frank is now under serious pressure at Tottenham again after his team were held to a shock 2-2 draw with Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

Finish the sentence: Tottenham’s chance of convincing Xabi Alonso to join are ____________

Tottenham fans sang against Frank at Turf Moor, which suggests that the Danish head coach will soon be removed from his position.

Now, the Tottenham hierarchy have a massive decision to make on Frank’s future, and plans already appear to be in place to find a replacement.

Tottenham will approach Xabi Alonso if Thomas Frank is sacked

Tottenham have previously approached Xabi Alonso and will do so again should they sack Thomas Frank, according to Paul O’Keefe.

A tentative approach was made through intermediaries for Alonso, although the initial response was not particularly positive.

Real Madrid recently sacked the Spanish manager, and he appears ready to make a swift return to action.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Liverpool’s defeat to Bournemouth means that Arne Slot is under big pressure, and a return to his former club would surely be very attractive.

Spurs and Liverpool would not be the only clubs to make approaches for the 44-year-old, meaning that the North London club stands little chance of landing him.

True or false: Tottenham re-appointing Mauricio Pochettino would be a bad idea…

Alonso will also surely leave a decision about his next club until the summer, when he will have several options available to him.

For the Lilywhites, it seems like just a pipe dream to bring Alonso to North London, but they are expected to make a firmer approach should Frank be sacked.

Xavi Hernandez is also in the frame for the Tottenham job

Xavi Hernandez is also set to be in the frame for the Tottenham job to replace the Danish head coach, adds O’Keefe.

The Spaniard has been out of work since being sacked by FC Barcelona in the summer of 2024.

The 45-year-old is another exciting up-and-coming manager, but it remains to be seen whether he would be keen to take over Spurs.

Xavi working with players like Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and Xavi Simons is quite an exciting possibility were he to accept the job.

Andy Robertson appeared to wave farewell to Liverpool’s travelling support at the Vitality Stadium amid suggestions he’s off to Tottenham.

The Scottish international may have just made his final appearance for the club after coming off the bench in the defeat to Bournemouth.

Who is Tottenham’s starting left-back when both are fully fit?

Udogie or Robertson…

The defender has become a real legend on Merseyside, having made 364 appearances for the club across eight and a half seasons.

Tottenham have now been in talks to sign Robertson, and everything points towards the 31-year-old completing the move this week.

Andy Robertson was the final Liverpool player to leave the away supporters and appeared to wave before walking off the pitch, according to Lewis Steele.

The experienced Premier League star came on for Milos Kerkez at half-time, with the Reds finding themselves 2-0 down at the break.

As usual, Robertson provided an energetic display for Arne Slot’s team against Bournemouth, managing 34 touches, six carries and completing 21 passes.

However, he was unable to help Liverpool from slipping to a late defeat on the South Coast, which could be a cruel way for him to bow out.

How can Thomas Frank get the best out of Andy Robertson?

Robertson now looks set to join Thomas Frank’s team and start a fresh challenge in North London. But whether the Danish head coach will ever get to work with him is another matter.

Tottenham need cover for Destiny Udogie, given concerns over his injury record and the Liverpool man looks set to be that player.

Micky van de Ven played at left-back against Burnley, showing that Spurs are unable to play the Italian in back-to-back matches right now.

John Heitinga is pushing Tottenham to sign Andy Robertson

John Heitinga is believed to be the man pushing Tottenham to sign Robertson this month, according to Dean Jones.

The pair shared a close working relationship during Heitinga’s time as Slot’s assistant, before the Dutch coach left for Ajax.

Chris Sutton cannot understand why Thomas Frank started Micky van de Ven at left-back during Tottenham’s draw against Burnley.

Tottenham Hotspur were held to a shock 2-2 draw with Burnley, leaving them languishing in 13th in the Premier League and just eight points ahead of the relegation zone.

Fill in the blank: Micky van de Ven is wasted at centre-back, I would like to see him play _____________________

Spurs had to salvage the draw as Van de Ven opened the scoring before Cristian Romero netted a late goal for 2-2 in the 90th minute.

But despite the Dutch defender getting on the scoresheet, Sutton has slammed Frank’s decision to play him at full-back.

Chris Sutton questions Thomas Frank starting Micky van de Ven at left-back

Chris Sutton has questioned Thomas Frank’s decision to start Micky van de Ven at left-back during Tottenham’s draw with Burnley.

The 24-year-old is actually the Netherlands’ first choice left-back right now, so it’s not like he’s unfamiliar with playing there; however, they have a plethora of centre-back options.

But Tottenham do not have that luxury, so starting the team’s best defender out of position was a rather odd call from the manager, and Sutton is right to question him.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Speaking during the match, Sutton told BBC Sport: “He’s a machine Van de Ven, Edwards there tried to turn him, but he just eased past him.

Fill in the blank: Micky van de Ven is worth £__m in this current market?

“I don’t know if you know this, but how many times has Micky van de Ven started out at left-back? We know he’s versatile, but that does seem a bit of an odd one out there.”

This week, Van de Ven has been linked with a Tottenham exit, and it’s clear to see why he is so keen to leave the North London club.

Tottenham value Van de Ven at a British transfer record fee, so a move from a team like Liverpool still looks rather complicated.

Van de Ven’s Tottenham contract decision should give the club a strong indication as to where the project under Frank is headed.

Andrew Robertson should end the Micky van de Ven left-back experiment

Andrew Robertson looks set to join Tottenham, and his arrival should end the experiment of playing Van de Ven at left-back.

It’s clear that Spurs are worried about Destiny Udogie’s injury record, so adding Robertson will provide some greater coverage at full-back.

The 31-year-old is an interesting addition for the Lilywhites, but his experience at the top should be good for this squad.

Xavi Simons has slammed Tottenham Hotspur’s defending against Burnley, claiming that the two goals the team conceded were ‘not acceptable’.

Tottenham Hotspur slipped to a shock 2-2 draw with Burnley, which leaves them 13th in the Premier League and just eight points ahead of the bottom three.

Fill in the blank: Tottenham should _________ Thomas Frank after losing to Burnley…

Should Spurs sack or back Frank?

Goals from Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven salvaged a draw for Spurs, with the Argentine netting a late equaliser.

One player who was not impressed by Spurs’ performance was Simons, and the Dutch international has slammed the team.

Xavi Simons slams Tottenham’s defending vs Burnley

Xavi Simons believes that Tottenham Hotspur’s defending against Burnley was ‘not acceptable’ and believes the team should have won.

Burnley have just three wins all season and came close to making it four against a truly woeful Spurs team at Turf Moor.

Speaking after the match, Simons told BBC Sport: “We wanted to win, and the two goals we conceded are not acceptable. It’s a shame, but we have to go on.

MORE SPURS STORIES

True or false: Tottenham re-appointing Mauricio Pochettino would be a bad idea…

“In general, yes [we deserved to win], but you have to win here – even if the keeper has a great match. We have to score those goals and we have to win.”

Spurs can be bitterly frustrated at Axel Tunazebe’s goal in the first half, as Van de Ven and Romero were caught napping; meanwhile, Guglielmo Vicario’s positioning was questionable.

The Lilywhites have now conceded 31 goals in 23 Premier League matches this season and are quickly being pulled into a relegation battle.

Thomas Frank was also unhappy with Tottenham’s defending

During his press conference, Frank expressed his disappointment at having conceded such a poor goal in the first half.

The Danish head coach felt that the momentum swung in Burnley’s favour after they managed to equalise just before the break.

Frank told the media: “We gave nothing away in the first half, except a goal at the end of the first half, which we can never, ever, ever concede that goal. Because it just changed a little bit of the momentum going into halftime.”

Tottenham Hotspur fans believe Thomas Frank has been holding the team back by freezing out Yves Bissouma from the squad.

Thomas Frank’s team rescued a late point away at Burnley, as goals from Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven salvaged a draw for Spurs.

Who was Tottenham’s best player vs Burnley?

Tottenham fans sang Mauricio Pochettino’s name from the away end at Turf Moor as they made their feelings clear about the manager.

Meanwhile, the supporters also highlighted Bissouma’s performance, with the Malian international making just his second appearance of the season.

Tottenham fans impressed by Yves Bissouma vs Burnley

Tottenham Hotspur fans have admitted that they were impressed by Yves Bissouma’s performance during their 2-2 draw with Burnley.

The £30m player has played just 123 minutes of football this season, having been frozen out of the squad by the manager.

Frank exiled Bissouma from Tottenham’s squad ahead of the UEFA Super Cup back in August due to disciplinary reasons.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tottenham sources think Frank has been harsh on Bissouma, and following an impressive cameo against West Ham, he was used again against Burnley.

Fill in the blank: Thomas Frank’s treatment of Yves Bissouma has been ____________

Bissouma completed more defensive actions than any other Spurs player, with nine in total, whilst also completing 57 passes and having 75 touches.

One fan said: “Bissouma is so good, we’ve been starved of having his quality for months.”

“Funny how Bissouma is our best midfielder, isn’t it?” claimed another supporter.

A third added: “Yves Bissouma, who’s been completely frozen out this season up until like a week ago, looks orders of magnitude better in midfield than our new 40m midfielder.”

There was yet more praise for the midfielder: “Bissouma and Solanke make such a difference in this side.”

Bissouma will be hoping that the next manager will fully reintegrate him into the team following a tricky couple of months.

Tottenham Hotspur player ratings vs Dortmund, stunning star scores 10/10 - The Spurs News
Description

Thomas Frank might have earned himself a stay of execution after his Tottenham team defeated Dortmund in the Champions League.

Spurs played superbly well in the first half, and goals from Cristian Romero and Dominic Solanke, combined with a red card for Dortmund star Daniel Svensson, made for an easy night for Frank.

Tottenham now need to take their Champions League form into the Premier League, with Frank having no problems whatsoever when it comes to dispatching teams at home in Europe.

What’s your immediate reaction after watching Tottenham beat Borussia Dortmund?

After the win over Dortmund, we took a look at the Tottenham players and ranked their performances out of 10.

Tottenham player ratings vs Borussia Dortmund

Guglielmo Vicario – 7

Hard to give him a score which is any higher on the basis that he didn’t do much at all given that Dortmund did so much defending during the match. Made a brilliant save in the 90th minute.

Pedro Porro – 8

Got forward superbly well throughout the contest and enjoyed an absolute field day down the right-hand side during the opening 45 minutes when Dortmund couldn’t cope with him.

Cristian Romero – 10

Captain Fantastic! What a performance from Tottenham’s captain who richly deserved his goal and showcased a performance that suggested the team are serious about rediscovering their best form. Deserved his clean sheet!

MORE SPURS STORIES

Kevin Danso – 8

Did well alongside Romero and although Tottenham do miss some pace in the defence when Micky van de Ven doesn’t play, they do perhaps get a bit more solidity at the back.

Destiny Udogie – 7

Came in and did well at left-back. Udogie got forward to help out with attacks extremely well and was aided by Djed Spence from a defensive point of view.

Archie Gray – 7

The midfielder is growing with each passing game and he was once again solid during this contest for Tottenham, showcasing his class up against Jobe Bellingham.

Lucas Bergvall – 8

Tottenham’s very own Duracell Bunny. He never stopped running throughout and it was a real shame when he had to go off with a knock in the second half.

Who was your Tottenham Man of the Match after the win over Dortmund?

Wilson Odobert – 9

A truly outstanding performance from the winger who came in and did superbly well against one of the best defensive units in European football. Never gave his opposite number a minute’s peace.

Xavi Simons – 9

Led by example in a team that was made up largely of younger players and Simons needs to now show the consistency to produce this level of performance more often in the Premier League.

Djed Spence – 8

Eyebrows were raised when he was picked to start in an advanced position ahead of Randal Kolo Muani, but once the game started, it was easy to see why. Energetic throughout, Spence looked made for a game of this magnitude.

Dominic Solanke – 8

Great to see the big man back leading his line and although his goal was somewhat scruffy, it was still great to see him wheeling off in delight after bagging a goal.

Substitutes

Jun’ai Byfield – 7

Great to see the youngster come on, but in truth, he didn’t get too involved and was pretty quiet when he did come on. This experience will serve him well.

Randal Kolo Muani – 7

Came on just to see things through at the end of the contest. Did what he had to well.

Confirmed Tottenham XI vs Dortmund, Thomas Frank names team as Micky van de Ven is suspended - The Spurs News
Description

Tottenham’s line-up to play Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League has been confirmed.

Having been knocked out of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup early, Tottenham only have the Champions League to fight for when it comes to silverware.

Last season, Spurs defied the odds to win the Europa League, but the challenge of winning the elite European club competition is considerably stronger.

There is talk that this game might be Thomas Frank’s last game in charge of Tottenham, and his team tonight is hardly surprising given the players he has unavailable.

Here is what the Tottenham team looks like for what could be the Dane’s final game…

WHAT is your immediate reaction to Tottenham’s XI vs Borussia Dortmund?

Did you expect anything different?

Tottenham must play without fear against Dortmund

There is no saying which Tottenham turn up tonight, but after a pretty lacklustre few weeks, Spurs need to get back on track by hook or by crook.

Spurs will want to confirm a place in the knockout stages of this competition in the coming weeks and winning tonight would see the team take great strides in that sense.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Dortmund will provide a stern test, however, and if this is to be Frank’s final game as the club’s head coach, he needs to go down swinging and proving a point.

Spurs have a number of players missing tonight, most notably Micky van de Ven who is banned, whilst Rodrigo Bentancur is injured and Conor Gallagher is ineligible following his move from Atletico Madrid last week.

Tottenham Hotspur genuinely considered hiring 'quality' manager as an interim, but now he's unavailable - The Spurs News
Description

Tottenham Hotspur could soon be on the lookout for a new head coach.

Spurs face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League tonight, and it’s been reported that Thomas Frank will be handed his papers regardless of the result.

Tottenham are 14th in the Premier League, and Frank hasn’t been able to really improve on much from what Ange Postecoglou achieved last season, particularly domestically.

A 2-1 defeat to London rivals West Ham has pushed Frank to the brink, and it would appear that the writing is already on the wall as far as his future is concerned.

When it comes to who might take over on an interim basis, it looks as though Tottenham might have been a week too late, missing the boat over one out-of-work coach.

Tottenham considered Michael Carrick appointment

According to TalkSPORT, Carrick would have been under consideration by Tottenham had he not been given the Manchester United reins on an interim basis.

It’s claimed that Spurs will likely go for an interim option until the summer, should Frank get sacked in the coming days, and that is a cause for concern.

Tottenham need stability, and they also need a proper coach who can get a tune out of the players currently at the football club.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Carrick played 75 times for Tottenham as a player, and he was sounded out about taking the job on a temporary basis before he eventually got appointed at Old Trafford.

Michael Carrick or Thomas Frank – Who would you prefer as the club’s manager right now?

Let us know who you'd prefer in the comments below…

Carrick would have been ideal appointment for Tottenham

The fact that Carrick has taken Steve Holland with him to United suggests he’d have perhaps done the same should he have got the Tottenham job.

Holland is a very meticulous coach and alongside Carrick, the pair should make the Red Devils much more difficult to beat for the remainder of the season.

Carrick was called ‘quality’ by Frank Lampard last season and although he couldn’t get Middlesbrough promoted, he had the team playing some brilliant football in the Championship.

Tottenham need to make sure they get the interim appointment right if that’s the decision they make if Frank departs, but the consensus might be that the club dropped the ball by not getting Carrick in earlier.

Description

The future of Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank could be decided in the next couple of days.

Tottenham face Dortmund on home soil in the Champions League tonight, but it’s claimed that Frank will be sacked regardless of the result shortly after.

Spurs feel like a bit of a basket case of a football club at the moment, and even though Daniel Levy has sailed off into the sunset, it appears the new owners still have the same issues.

Frank joined the club on the back of some sterling work with Brentford, but for whatever reason, he’s been unable to really get his ideas across during his short time at Tottenham.

Now, pundits have started assessing who might be the next man to try and bring some continued success to Tottenham, with Frank seemingly on the brink of the axe.

Jamie Carragher thinks Premier League manager is more likely to go to Tottenham

There could be lots of movement in the summer transfer window when it comes to the managers, with a number of sought-after bosses nearing the end of their contracts.

One of those is Andoni Iraola at Bournemouth, and as of yet, there has been nothing forthcoming in the way of an extension from the Cherries to keep their manager.

Carragher believes that Iraola is much more suited to Tottenham than Manchester United, with the Red Devils likely to be in the market for a new permanent manager during the summer.

MORE SPURS STORIES

He said on the Sky Sports Premier League podcast: “Now when I look at Glasner, straight away I’d say no because of the system, straight away.

“Iraola has done a brilliant job and has linked with a top job, but for me, Bournemouth and Manchester United is a huge jump. It is.

“I’d say the same with Marco Silva, who again I’m a big fan of and no disrespect to those managers or the club I’m going to mention, I think the next step for them would be Tottenham. Iraola, Marco Silva, that for me feels more Tottenham-like than Manchester United.”

Iraola would be perfect for Tottenham

Unlike Frank, Iraola has showcased at Bournemouth that he’s capable of playing sustainable football that can be tweaked depending on the opposition and the in-game situations.

Oliver Glasner hasn’t always shown that flexibility at Palace, whilst Marco Silva could remain in place at Fulham beyond the end of the current campaign.

Change our mind: Tottenham were wrong to sack Ange Postecoglou…

Tottenham have to get the next appointment right and after the debacle with Frank – and even Ange Postecoglou – it appears Spurs simply want someone who can come in and play eye-catching football.

Iraola would be the dream for Spurs and the challenge now is to convince him that Tottenham is the club where he will get time to see through a project and be backed in the transfer market.
