Description

Liverpool and Tottenham will go head-to-head in the Premier League at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, with the Reds needing just one point to claim the title.

Arne Slot's side have been sensational all season and moved to within a single point of their 20th top-flight title with a 1-0 win over relegated Leicester City in their last outing, while Ange Postecoglou's side have lost 18 times this season including a 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Monday night.

Both teams have got injury concerns for the game and the managers have some decisions to make, and this is how GIVEMESPORT expect the teams to line up.

Liverpool Team News

Alexander-Arnold fit again

Liverpool were able to welcome back Trent Alexander-Arnold to the squad against Leicester and he came off the bench to score the winning goal. However, he's unlikely to be ready to play for 90 minutes again and could be on the bench once more.

Joe Gomez remains out with a hamstring injury and could return before the end of the season, but the rest of the squad is fit and available.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Slot shared an update on the squad ahead of the game.

“That depends of course on the upcoming two sessions, but he [Bradley] was getting closer and closer to 90 minutes.

“The first and the second one were approximately the same amount of minutes and it’s normal if you played twice around 70 minutes then the chance of you being able to play 90 is getting closer and closer.

“But we are also taking very good care of him because he had two injuries that were similar. Let’s wait and see how he does today and tomorrow if he’s able to play, and if he’s able to play if he can make 90.

“If his [Gomez] recovery goes well, he would be able to [play] maybe in the last one or two games of the season.

“But he is still not training with us yet. But he is coming closer and closer to train with the team.

“But then he’s been out for a long time. We were just discussing Conor Bradley – it took him a while before he could even come in or have a long start.

“I think he [Gomez] will be available in the last one, two or three games if his recovery goes the way as planned.”

Liverpool Predicted XI

Diaz to lead the line

Liverpool Predicted XI: Alisson; Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Diaz.

Liverpool Predicted Substitutes: Kelleher (GK), Alexander-Arnold (DEF), Tsimikas (DEF), Quansah (DEF), Endo (MID), Jones (MID), Elliott (MID), Nunez (FWD), Jota (FWD).

With Trent not fully fit and still expected to leave the club at the end of the season, Conor Bradley should continue at right-back while Luis Diaz should lead the attack from a central position.

That leaves £280,000-a-week duo Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota on the bench at Anfield as they chase the league title.

Tottenham Team News

Heung-Min Son ruled out

Tottenham will have to deal without their captain Heung-Min Son for the game at Anfield on Sunday, with the South Korean still struggling with a foot injury.

Postecoglou may also have one eye on the Europa League semi-final clash in midweek, which could see him rotate the team. Radu Dragusin remains a long-term absentee with a knee injury.

Speaking in his pre-game press conference, Postecoglou shared an update on his squad ahead of the match.

"Squad wise, there's no change. All the guys got through (Forest) okay. In terms of rehab, Sonny's the only one who is going through that process, improving, but not ready for Sunday.

"Again, with the programme we have coming up, Thursday obviously is a big night for us, so it will be a matter of playing a few that need the game time and others we feel may need less exposure, we'll have a look at that.

"We don't have injury problems, as such. The only one is Sonny, trying to work his way back. He's improving, which is positive for us, but not (fit) for Sunday. Everyone from the last game has come back well, so apart from the longer-term ones, the rest of the squad is fit and available.

"We'll see [if he can play on Thursday]. He's improving. It's the first time he's been out on the grass today, he said it felt distinctively better than it was. It's a day by day situation.

"It's a bit of both [rest and recovery]. The foot element... it's weight bearing, so you need to give him some rest, some time off it, and get some treatment. The main thing was to get him off his feet for a week to allow it to settle, so he could start the process of getting back."

Tottenham Predicted XI

Postecoglou to prioritise Europa League

Tottenham Predicted XI: Vicario; Spence, Gray, Romero, Udogie; Bentancur, Bissouma; Johnson, Maddison, Odobert; Richarlison.

Tottenham Predicted Substitutes: Kinsky (GK), Porro (DEF), Van de Ven (DEF), Davies (DEF), Bergvall (MID), Sarr (MID), Tel (FWD), Kulusevski (FWD), Solanke (FWD).

With one eye on Thursday night, Postecoglou is likely to refresh his squad and give some players added minutes while also resting key stars. That should see Archie Gray, Yves Bissouma and Wilson Odobert come into the starting lineup.

Euro Giants Want to Sign ‘Unbelievable’ Tottenham Star Alongside Romero

Description

Rodrigo Bentancur has joined his Tottenham Hotspur teammate Cristian Romero on Diego Simeone's transfer wishlist for this summer, as per The Times.

Spurs are reportedly keen on getting Bentancur to sign a contract extension, as his current deal expires in a year. The Uruguayan has been with the club since January 2022, when he arrived from Juventus for a fee in the region of £21 million.

The 27-year-old's representatives have been in talks with the Lilywhites over a contract renewal but he's being eyed up by several European sides ahead of the summer. One of those clubs is Atletico Madrid, who have also made Spurs defender Romero a target, and he has not downplayed a potential exit, and the North London outfit aren't ruling out his departure, as per GIVEMESPORT sources.

Atletico Madrid Eyeing Spurs' Bentancur AND Romero

The South American duo are on Simeone's radar

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is reportedly eager not to lose Bentancur on a free next year and is pushing in talks for the player to extend his stay at the club. When fit or not serving suspension, he has been a regular under Ange Postecoglou and has filled in at defensive and central midfield.

Postecoglou labelled Bentancur an 'unbelievable teammate' earlier this season, and Simeone is said to have made the Uruguay international a 'key target'. The La Liga giants have set their sights on the Premier League again after former Tottenham target Conor Gallagher moved to the Riyadh Air Metropolitano from Chelsea last summer for around £34 million.

The two clubs have a strong relationship based on previous business conducted between them, including deals for Kieran Trippier, Sergio Reguilon, Matt Doherty, and Toby Alderweireld. Spurs' precarious position means they'll be without European football next season if they don't win the Europa League, which could cast doubt over several players' futures.

While Bentancur hasn't pushed to leave the North Londoners, his fellow South American Romero has shown signs of wanting to take on a new challenge in "new places". He hinted at a desire to play in La Liga, and Simeone is prepared to offer him that opportunity, although the Lilywhites want around £60 million.

Tottenham Eye Shock Appointment of ‘Future England Boss’ to Replace Postecoglou

Description

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has emerged as a shock contender to replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur, as per Fichajes.net.

Ben Jacobs has told GIVEMESPORT on the latest Market Madness podcast that Tottenham could part ways with Postecoglou even if they win the UEFA Europa League. His men are in the semi-finals, but a disastrous Premier League campaign could cost the Australian his job.

Lampard is earning rave reviews at Coventry City, where he's completely transformed the Sky Blues into EFL Championship play-off hopefuls. His appointment came with criticism because of his past stints in charge of Everton and as caretaker boss at Chelsea, but he's more than proven his doubters wrong.

Tottenham Place Lampard On Managerial Shortlist

The Chelsea hero is reportedly an option for the Lilywhites

Lampard's incredible turnaround at Coventry, where he's overseen their best run since 1970, hasn't gone unnoticed by Tottenham, according to reports in Spain. He is thought to be on Daniel Levy's list alongside his former manager and ex-Spurs boss, Jose Mourinho, whose Fenerbahce spell has been plagued with controversy.

If Spurs were to move for the Englishman, it would be a bold appointment given his history in battles between Chelsea and the Lilywhites. He'd also be going back on his word after insisting in 2019 that he wouldn't take the job if ever offered it (via The Sun):

"I wouldn't manage Tottenham, and that's no disrespect to Tottenham... I've got a lot of friends who are Tottenham fans and Arsenal fans. But sometimes there are feelings when you are in it about some things that you wouldn't do."

Lampard has Premier League experience and success in guiding a team to a top-four finish, having achieved said feat with Chelsea during the transfer ban season. But the wheels fell off soon after, and he was dismissed in January 2021 before taking over at Everton, where he managed to steer the Toffees to survival.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Frank Lampard oversaw nine wins in ten EFL Championship games (January 18 - March 8), a feat last accomplished by Coventry in September 1954.

The 46-year-old signed a three-year contract with Coventry in November 2024, and there's no word on the compensation fee that could be involved in any move for their coach. Sheffield United's Chris Wilder thinks he's a future England manager in waiting. Before that, he could become the first manager since Gordon Strachan in 2001 to manage the Sky Blues outfit in the Premier League.

Tottenham ‘Make Contact’ to Sign ‘One of the Best Defenders in Serie A’

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are "the latest club to gather fresh details on" Inter Milan centre-back Yann Bisseck and have made contact with the club ahead of the summer transfer window, according to TEAMtalk.

It has been a bitterly disappointing season for Spurs, one which will see them finish well within the confines of mid-table in the Premier League. This, combined with an exit from both domestic cup competitions, means that the Europa League is the only viable way in which Spurs could end their near 20-year trophy drought.

At the time of writing, Spurs have lost 18 of the 33 Premier League matches that they’ve played, with only the teams in the bottom three having lost more. Such form has seen pressure rise on manager Ange Postecoglou as the campaign has progressed, with many thinking that the coach will leave ahead of the new season.

Spurs, who have struggled with injuries for large portions of the campaign, will undoubtedly have an eye on the upcoming summer transfer window. Given Radu Dragusin, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have all been sidelined at points in the term, it seems that central defence is an area Spurs are keen to reinforce.

Spurs Keen on Bisseck

Numerous clubs are monitoring the defender

As per TEAMtalk, Yann Bisseck is a player that Spurs are keen on. The central defender has been an ever-present part of the Inter Milan defence across the 2024/25 season and as TEAMtalk noted, Bisseck has helped the club keep 18 clean sheets in the 34 games he has played at the time of writing, with Bisseck having been called “one of the best defenders in Serie A” by Lothar Matthaus.

Inter would reportedly be open to selling Bisseck should their valuation of the player be matched, but Spurs are certainly not the only club to show interest in the defender. Spurs could still qualify for European football through the Europa League, which may prove crucial in tempting Bisseck into joining the club.

The Premier League has shown, however, that it is an attractive league, so Spurs’ position within it, and their stature as a club, may be enough to lure Bisseck to North London. Should the Lilywhites get a deal over the line, then they would be signing a brilliant defender who could be with the club for years to come.

Description

Tottenham want to appoint Jose Mourinho as their new manager if they sack Ange Postecoglou this summer, according to Fichajes.net.

The north London side suffered a horrific domestic season under the Australian this season as they sit in 16th place with 18 defeats from their 33 games in the Premier League, although they have reached the Europa League semi-finals too.

Despite that progress in Europe, it's expected that Postecoglou will leave the club in the summer due to the poor results and it's now being reported that the Lilywhites are looking to bring back a familiar face to get them back on track.

Tottenham Want to Appoint Mourinho

Portuguese coach has admirers in club

Despite leaving Tottenham in difficult circumstances back in 2021, just days before the team were due to compete in a Carabao Cup final, it's believed that Mourinho still has admirers within the hierarchy of the club.

Since leaving Spurs, Mourinho has managed at AS Roma and won the Europa Conference League while he is now in charge at Fenerbahce - but he has been embroiled in controversy several times in Turkey and is reportedly looking to leave.

That has opened the door for Tottenham to move and begin the process for his return, and the possibility is now seen as something that is a 'real possibility'.

Mourinho, who has been described as 'one of the best managers ever', is known as a serial winner who has lifted silverware at every club he has been at - except for Tottenham. He is also yet to win a trophy with Fenerbahce, although he hasn't left yet.

The Portuguese coach is known for his high standards and tough-love approach, something that some fans in north London may feel is needed with this current squad comprising of lots of senior internationals as well as some top young talent.

Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola and Fulham's Marco Silva are believed to be top contenders for the role currently, while owner Daniel Levy has reportedly made Mauricio Pochettino his number one option to replace Postecoglou this summer.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur believe they are in a strong position to negotiate a lower fee with Bayern Munich to make Mathys Tel's loan move permanent this summer.

The 19-year-old has started six Premier League games since joining during the winter transfer window and has returned two goals so far, but Spurs are interested in keeping him on regardless of doubts over boss Ange Postecoglou's future.

The original agreement between Tottenham and Bayern Munich already contains an option to buy for around £42million. At the time, Tel’s arrival was seen as a coup and the fee seemed reasonable. Yet, now, it is understood that the north Londoners are wondering if they can strike a deal at a reduced price.

Spurs Prepare to Enter Fresh Tel Discussions

North Londoners set sights on reducing fee for French loanee

Ideally, Tottenham would like to bring the figure for the "unbelievable talent" down towards the £30million mark, and it is expected that discussions with Bayern Munich officials at the end of the season will be used to try to negotiate around the valuation.

The forward has enjoyed life in London and is starting to feel settled at Spurs, even if this has been a season where his talent has only shown in glimpses.

Tottenham have been pleased with Tel's attitude and integration, leading to them feeling he could take a significant step forward next term with a full pre-season under his belt.

Importantly, Spurs do not believe Bayern Munich have a plan to reintegrate the Frenchman into their own first-team squad and, as things stand, there are no serious offers from elsewhere.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Mathys Tel made five key passes and registered as many shots during Tottenham Hotspur's defeat to Nottingham Forest earlier this week

Juventus were strong contenders when Tottenham first moved for him, but sources have confirmed to GIVEMESPORT that the Italian heavyweights do not intend to revisit the situation.

While Spurs do not want to meet Bayern Munich’s original valuation, sources insist that should not be mistaken as a lack of interest in keeping Tel. In Germany, there have been suggestions that his limited minutes could reflect a lack of faith in the player.

On the contrary, there is a belief internally that the winter arrival is a long-term project worth continuing and is only just getting started. There is optimism that his parent club will be open to a new conversation, particularly given the current lack of outside interest and the fact the player himself is believed to be happy with the role Spurs have for him moving forward.

'Arne Slot Lied Three Times About Spurs - Here's Why Tottenham Rejected Him'

'Arne Slot Lied Three Times About Spurs - Here's Why Tottenham Rejected Him' - GiveMeSport
Description

As of April 2025, Arne Slot has been a resounding success at Liverpool. He will end his first season in English football having led the Reds to only their second-ever Premier League title.

Having arrived as a relatively unproven prospect in the summer of 2024, heading to Anfield after spells in charge of Dutch teams Cambuur, AZ, and Feyenoord, he has taken many British football fans by surprise. That said, he wasn't a complete unknown.

After all, having won Eredivisie and the KNVB Cup with Feyenoord, as well as making the UEFA Conference League final in 2022, the 46-year-old had steadily proven himself to be one of the most talented managers emerging on the European footballing landscape. As such, Liverpool weren't the first Premier League club to consider appointing the Dutchman.

Tottenham Hotspur Were Close To Appointing Arne Slot

Ended up with Ange Postecoglou instead

In April 2023, Tottenham Hotspur were on the lookout for a new manager after Antonio Conte sas sacked with 10 games left of the season. Per the Athletic, Spurs employed an external data analytics company to assess all potentially available managers on the suitability of their playing style, their capacity to improve both teams and individual players. This led them to two men, Ange Postecoglou and the aforementioned Slot.

“Because of the way we work here, the way I work with my staff, the players we have, the facilities we have. And the thing is, I think the possibilities we have here in the near future, and the longer-term future, are still challenging for me. We are going to play Champions League, which I have never done before, as a player or as a coach, which I am looking forward to. The club is in a really good place. I felt I want to work for longer, based on the project, to see what comes from that. Because you go every time, after one or two successful seasons. But in the end, where and what are you then? Sometimes you also have to cherish what you have.”

However, respected Dutch journalist Henk Spaan has since claimed that Slot was bending the truth.

Dutch Journalist Claims Slot Did Not Reject Spurs

"Slot is now pretending that he pulled the plug"

As quoted on the On the Hard Gras podcast in April 2024, via Soccer News, Spaan claimed that he was annoyed by Slot's statements, which made it seem as though he was the one to pull the plug on the negotiations with Spurs. He said it was not a decision made by the Feyenoord manager, but rather an issue from Tottenham's end.

Indeed, in typical Daniel Levy fashion, it seems as though the English club were not willing to pay enough money to convince Feyenoord director Dennis te Kloese to let the head coach leave. With that in mind, Spaan claimed that Slot had subsequently lied on three occasions about turning Spurs down, saying :

“So he’s said that three times, but Spurs stopped negotiating. Dennis te Kloese thought it was a worthless offer.

"Slot is now pretending that he pulled the plug, but that is simply not the case. Tottenham Hotspur simply did not want to pay anymore."

This version of events is backed up somewhat by the Athletic, who have since confirmed that Tottenham never officially offered Slot the position. Jack Pitt-Brooke explained: "Tottenham were clear that they had not offered Slot the job, and that he had therefore not turned it down."

However, muddying the situation, it's also explained that Te Kloese played down the idea that formal talks between the two clubs ever occurred. Even so, Pitt-Brooke added: "Clearly, the talks between intermediaries were sufficiently promising for some people at both clubs to believe that Slot would ultimately be on his way to north London."

Whatever the truth, Spurs' loss is Liverpool's gain. Slot will have delivered a Premier League title in his first season with the Reds, and also took them to a League Cup final.

Tottenham Hotspur could make a move for Borussia Dortmund boss Niko Kovac, according to reports from Germany - with the north London club thought to be considering Ange Postecoglou's future after a shambolic season on domestic soil.

Only a Europa League campaign, which has seen Spurs advance to the semi-finals, has avoided arguably their poorest season in modern history - though reports have claimed that Postecoglou could even be sacked regardless of European glory. And that has seen Kovac touted for the role, with Spurs liking his passion and general intensity.

Report: Tottenham 'Enquire' about Niko Kovac

The Lilywhites could get a new boss through the door in the summer

The report by Bild (via GGFN) states that Tottenham have enquired about Dortmund head coach Kovac, as Postecoglou continues to walk on a tightrope over his future amid a shocking Premier League season.

The publication further states that Spurs are thought to be impressed by the Croatian's 'passion', and his intensity and aggression in terms of his style of play are admired by Daniel Levy.

Kovac came into Dortmund's ranks in February after Nuri Sahin was sacked in late January, and despite losing four of his first six games in the Bundesliga, a draw away at former club Bayern Munich and wins over fellow Champions League challengers Mainz, Freiburg and Borussia Mönchengladbach have seen Kovac properly stamp his authority on the German outfit, being prompted as one of the 'best coaches in Europe' in the process.

Sitting four points outside the Champions League spots, there is still a chance that they can qualify for the top four in a bid to hoist themselves into the Champions League - though currently not garnering any European place at all, continental football in any capacity will be the priority for Kovac.

A spell as Croatia manager saw him take the Eintracht Frankfurt job, where he won the German Cup - and that saw Bayern appoint him as boss, where he won the double before being sacked the following season.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Niko Kovac won 45 of his 65 games in charge of Bayern Munich.

At 53, and after a superb playing career that saw him also win the double with Bayern as a player, Kovac has credentials at the top levels of football and Tottenham may see that as a selling point - even in spite of the fact that he only joined Dortmund two months ago.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison is more likely to stay at the club if Ange Postecoglou departs this summer, journalist Graeme Bailey has revealed.

The England international’s future in North London could reportedly depend on what happens with Postecoglou at the end of the season, amid Spurs’ dismal domestic campaign.

The Lilywhites are now heading for their worst-ever finish in Premier League history as they sit 16th in the table with five games to play.

Tottenham have never finished outside the top 15 since the Premier League’s inaugural season in 1992/93 and last ended up in the bottom half in 2007/08, under Juande Ramos.

Maddison’s Spurs Future Remains Unclear

The 28-year-old ‘has England aspirations’

Bailey, speaking to TBR Football, has revealed that Maddison’s future at Tottenham is far from certain after he struggled for regular minutes under Postecoglou this campaign:

“James Maddison’s future is far from certain to be at Tottenham. But we could very well see a summer of upheaval at Spurs.

“If Ange Postecoglou leaves, the Maddison conversation will have to be had – I believe there is more chance of him staying, should the manager leave. Maddison has England aspirations and he has that in his mind.

“And I can tell you I know of a couple of Premier League clubs who would want him, but as said, it will depend on who is in charge – he could yet have a long-term future at Spurs.”

Maddison, praised as ‘unbelievable’, has started just 20 Premier League games for Spurs this term and was left on the bench for their 2-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest on Monday.

The 28-year-old has played the full 90 minutes in just two games all season and has struggled for consistent game time after an impressive first year under Postecoglou.

Maddison was instrumental in Tottenham’s push for fifth last term, scoring four goals and providing 10 assists in 28 league appearances.

His form at the start of the season was particularly impressive, with nine goal contributions in 11 games before an ankle injury ruled him out for almost three months.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are admirers of former Brighton & Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi amid Ange Postecoglou’s looming sack in North London, journalist Graeme Bailey has reported.

The Australian tactician is expected to leave Spurs at the end of the season regardless of whether they win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League, and the club are believed to be looking at his potential successors already.

While they have been linked with a host of Premier League managers, including Fulham boss Marco Silva and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, De Zerbi is another name Tottenham appreciate.

The 45-year-old Italian is currently in charge of Marseille and has two years remaining on his contract, which runs until June 2027.

Tottenham Appreciate Roberto De Zerbi

Postecoglou’s future looks increasingly uncertain

According to Bailey, Tottenham are believed to have a number of names on their managerial shortlist, including De Zerbi, Burnley boss Scott Parker and Strasbourg’s Liam Rosenior.

The Lilywhites are expected to sack Postecoglou amid their dismal Premier League campaign, with the club sitting just 16th with five games to play.

Spurs have never finished outside the top 15 in Premier League history and last missed out on a top-10 finish in the 2007/08 season, with Juande Ramos in charge.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Tottenham have lost 18 of their 33 league games under Postecoglou this season.

De Zerbi, praised as 'spectacular' and 'one of the most influential managers of the last 20 years', was linked with several top Premier League clubs before taking charge of Marseille last summer.

It has been reported that both Manchester United and Chelsea considered appointing the 45-year-old before the season, after growing impressed by his work at Brighton.

De Zerbi led the Seagulls to a sixth-place finish in the 2022/23 season, his first at the Amex Stadium, and finished 11th last term.

His Marseille side are currently second in the Ligue 1 table with four games remaining, 23 points behind champions Paris Saint-Germain.
