Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is calling Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero every day to convince him to move to La Liga, according to journalist Ruben Uria.

The Lilywhites are expecting a busy summer transfer window after opting to replace manager Ange Postecoglou with Thomas Frank following a 17th-place finish in the Premier League, despite qualifying for the Champions League via their Europa League triumph.

But one of the big issues that the new manager must deal with is the future of his vice-captain Romero, who is attracting big interest and has so far refused to commit his future to the north London club.

GIVEMESPORT sources revealed back in March that the club had softened their stance on a potential sale of the Argentina international, amid interest from the Spanish capital.

However, since winning the Europa League and securing Champions League football, it's believed that the club now want to keep Romero at the club to help the transition with the new manager too, who sees him as a vital member of his new project.

But while they're looking to offer him a new contract to convince him to stay in London, it's now being reported by El Desmarque that Atletico boss Simeone is phoning the defender 'almost every day' to try and convince him to make the move to the Wanda Metropolitano.

"I know that Cholo [Diego Simeone] calls Cuti Romero almost every day to see if he can convince him. They're [Tottenham] going to ask a lot. €58-60 million (£50m) for this player, which is a lot of money for a centre-back."

Romero, who has been described as "world-class" and currently earns £165,000-a-week, has admitted publicly that he dreams of playing in Spain at some point during his career, which opened the door to a potential exit this summer.

But Spurs are now pushing to convince him to stay put despite Simeone's advances, and a decision is expected to be made in the coming weeks.

Tottenham are not giving up hope of signing Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo this summer, amid strong interest from Manchester United, journalist Duncan Castles has suggested.

Despite suggestions that the Cameroonian forward’s preference is to join Man United and move to Old Trafford, Castles believes Mbeumo has not yet closed the door entirely on a potential reunion with Thomas Frank in North London.

Spurs’ chances would reportedly be boosted should they get closer to Brentford’s valuation of the 25-year-old winger, while Mbeumo also has his own reasons why a move to Tottenham could potentially be more appealing.

It would allow him to stay in London for the foreseeable future and continue playing under Frank, who signed Mbeumo for Brentford from French club Troyes back in 2019.

Despite strong interest from Man United

Castles, speaking on the Transfers Podcast, revealed that Mbeumo has not yet made his mind up over his next summer move, with Tottenham retaining hope of a potential reunion with Frank amid Man United interest:

“The indication from Manchester United was that Mbeumo had chosen to move there, that he verbally told them that his preference was to move there.

“I'm not hearing exactly the same on that there. I think there is a good chance that Mbeumo, should Tottenham, in particular, get to the price that Brentford are asking, that he might choose Tottenham ahead of Manchester United.

“And there are a couple of obvious reasons for that. One is, it allows him to stay in London, and, secondly, allows them to carry on playing for Thomas Frank, who has joined Tottenham as the replacement for Ange Postecoglou.”

Mbeumo enjoyed a career-best Premier League campaign under Frank last season, scoring 20 goals and providing eight assists in 38 appearances for Brentford.

The 'insane' Cameroonian is now expected to leave with a year left on his contract, although the Bees hold an option to extend it by another 12 months, until June 2027.

Man United are believed to have earmarked Mbeumo as their priority forward target and are eyeing him for a starting spot in Ruben Amorim’s XI next season.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have also placed the signing of a new winger at the top of their agenda, with West Ham ace Mohammed Kudus emerging as another option.

Over the years, England have been blessed with some incredible strikers. The likes of Alan Shearer, Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney have taken the world by storm while hailing from the nation. While there have been plenty of exceptional finishers in England's history, four men stood out for Hoddle and they were Gary Lineker, Michael Owen, Jimmy Greaves and Alan Shearer. It's hard to argue with his decision to name any of the quartet and their resumes speak for themselves. Lineker was one of the best strikers on the planet during his career and he shone for the Three Lions, as well as at club level for Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur in particular.

Another former Spurs man he named was Greaves. Few players have the record he put together in front of goal during his time on the pitch. He became a legend at Spurs and at local rivals Chelsea - a testament to just how good he was. Owen started his career in blistering form and while things fell apart in the later years, with injuries slowing him down, there's no denying how excellent he was at his peak and he's the second youngest Ballon d'Or winner ever, lifting the award at just 22 years old. Hoddle gave Owen his England debut and was a big fan.

As quoted by BBC Sport, he spoke about the former striker and listed the four as the best finishers in England's history. He said:

"He [Owen] is in the top four of our greatest finishers, along with Jimmy Greaves, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer. Some might say he is at the top of that list. He was a baby-faced assassin. His finishing was amazing for a young man."

Shearer didn't enjoy the success that the others did for the Three Lions, but he shone at club level and retired in 2006 as the Premier League's all-time leading scorer. His phenomenal tally of 260 goals in the top flight still hasn't been beaten.

The journalist also says that it's 'natural' for things like that to happen given the relationship of the manager and player and the fact he is seemingly looking to move on from the Bees during the summer transfer window.

Revealing exactly what happened behind the scenes at Tottenham, Romano said on GIVEMESPORT's Market Madness podcast:

For sure, there is appreciation from Thomas Frank. And so it's quite obvious to discuss a target like [Bryan] Mbeumo for Tottenham, because he's one of the names they discussed internally as soon as he signed his contract as new Tottenham manager.

The fact that Tottenham, Manchester United and the likes of Newcastle and Aston Villa are reportedly interested in Mbeumo isn't a surprise when you see how good he has been at Brentford in recent seasons.

The 2024-25 campaign was his peak as he hit 20 goals and eight assists in 38 Premier League appearances for Frank's side, leading to former Red Devils star Rio Ferdinand labelling his goal-involvement record as 'ridiculous'.

Tottenham still appear to be the outsiders to land Mbeumo after the player made his feelings clear on wanting to move to Old Trafford, but should the circumstances change Frank and Spurs will be the favourites to land the Cameroonian star.

Fabrizio Romano has told GIVEMESPORT's Market Madness podcast that he expects Cristian Romero to stay at Tottenham this summer despite strong interest from Atletico Madrid.

The World Cup winning central defender has emerged as a top target for the La Liga giants this summer, as Diego Simeone looks to strengthen his squad, with the centre-back admitting that it would be a dream for him to move to Spain during his career.

Reports in Spain even suggest that Romero has already agreed personal terms about a move to the Wanda Metropolitano, but no transfer fee has been agreed between the clubs and it's now been revealed that it looks unlikely one will be.

Frank sees him as crucial to the new project

Argentina star Romero, who has been described as "world-class" by teammate Micky Van de Ven, is currently the vice-captain in north London and has been a key member of the squad since signing from Juventus.

His importance has seen him described as "the best defender in the world" too, which explains why Atletico Madrid are so keen on bringing him to the Wanda Metropolitano. But according to Romano, who was speaking exclusively on the Market Madness podcast, Daniel Levy and Thomas Frank see him as key to the new project, which makes any deal very difficult to do.

"Look, Atletico love the player, so they would love to bring Cuti Romero one day to the club. Also, Simeone is a big fan, but my understanding is that with Tottenham in Champions League, Tottenham with a new project now, with Thomas Frank, I don't see Tottenham losing a leader like Cuti Romero this summer.

"So it's going to be very difficult to get the player in the summer transfer window.

"Daniel Levy wants to keep the player at the club from what I'm hearing. Also Thomas Frank sees Romero as a crucial part of this squad from a technical point of view, but also for leadership.

"So I think Atletico want to try. They always wanted to try, not only this year, also in the past, but at the moment, I think it's going to be quite complicated, especially with Tottenham being in the Champions League.

"If they lost the final by final in Bilbao, maybe it was going to be a different story. But now, being in the Champions League, I think it's going to be very tough."

Frank is looking to put his own stamp on the squad after replacing Ange Postecoglou as manager, but it makes sense that he wouldn't want to lose one of his better players.

It's also been reported that there is strong interest from Saudi Arabia in captain Heung-Min Son, and the club would be open to letting him leave, so Romero could find himself with the armband permanently.

Spurs have also been linked with a move for central defender Nathan Collins, who Frank is known to rate very highly, but it seems that the attack is more of a priority as things stand.

The club have already held internal talks about a move for Wissa and they are now considering making a formal offer, with Brentford believed to be holding out for at least £40m to let the 28-year-old leave.

"I can only tell you about Spurs, who have made an active enquiry to just understand the desire on the player's side and also the price. Nothing is advanced at this point, and it might be the kind of deal that happens a little bit later in the window.

"Heung-min Son is going to go off and do pre-season with Spurs and then, after that, decide on his future."

Simons has informed Leipzig of his desire to embark on a fresh challenge after his current employers missed out on European qualification on the final day of the 2024/25 Bundesliga campaign, but bids which fall below the £60million mark will not be entertained in the remainder of the transfer window.

GMS sources have been told that Frank is in danger of facing an uphill battle to land Guessand as Arsenal, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, West Ham United, Brighton & Hove Albion, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Bournemouth and newly-promoted Leeds United have joined Tottenham in running the rule over Guessand.

Spurs and their domestic counterparts are already aware that they will have no issues attempting to meet the Ivory Coast international's personal demands as he is currently on a contract which allows him to pocket less than £15,000-per-week at Nice, but there are three years remaining on the agreement.

Now the north London club are looking to bolster their squad for the new campaign and have identified the Colombia international as a target to strengthen their defensive lineup.

Vice-captain Romero has emerged as someone who could leave the club this summer, with strong interest from Atletico Madrid and the Argentine admitting that he dreams of playing in La Liga.

That has left Tottenham looking at potential replacements for the 'world-class' star, and Bologna star Lucumi has emerged as someone the club are big fans of.

But they will have to see off competition from Premier League rivals Wolves and Brighton, who have both already held talks with the Serie A club about a deal for the 26-year-old South American.

But Lucumi would come into the squad with top-level experience having also played in the Champions League for Bologna, and would surely be a welcome addition.

Tottenham Hotspur have made an approach to West Ham United about signing forward Mohammed Kudus, according to Goal.

The Lilywhites are looking to strengthen their squad this summer after qualifying for the Champions League by winning the Europa League, despite a hugely disappointing Premier League campaign in which they finished 17th.

Ghana international Kudus, who has been described as a 'superstar', had a difficult season with West Ham under Graham Potter this season and the Hammers are now ready to cash in on the winger to help fund a rebuild.

The 24-year-old has a release clause worth £85m in his contract for other Premier League clubs at the London Stadium; however, they do not expect that clause to be triggered this summer. But it does give them the upper hand in negotiations with interested parties.

Tottenham have made a formal enquiry about a deal for the Ghana international, but don't want to pay the £65m asking price that West Ham have put on his head. Instead, they'd rather pay around £50m to sign the former Ajax forward.

Kudus also has interest from Chelsea and Newcastle United, and West Ham would rather sell him to one of those due to the ongoing rivalry with Spurs, although it is not thought they are completely against a sale.

Tottenham have also shown an interest in several other attackers including Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo, while Frank has urged Spurs to move for his former Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo with a £70m bid reportedly made - despite the player's preference to move to Manchester United.

The north London club have also held internal talks about a move to sign Yoane Wissa, while Nathan Collins is also believed to be a target to strengthen the defence.
