Description

Tottenham Hotspur are set to push ahead with a move for an experienced Premier League manager after an Italian coach turned down the chance to replace Ange Postecoglou at N17.

As expected, the decision to sack Postecoglou has not gone down well with many Spurs fans, who felt that the Australian had earned the opportunity to build on the Europa League success.

Tottenham explained that they had decided to sack Postecoglou after significant reflection, pointing out that the 59-year-old has managed to get just 78 points from the club’s last 66 Premier League games.

According to reports, Spurs are expected to make a managerial appointment by next week, having already narrowed down on their top candidates.

Roberto De Zerbi has rejected Tottenham’s approach

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Tottenham approached Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi over recent days about replacing Postecoglou.

However, the former Brighton boss turned down the advances and made it clear that he wants to remain with the Ligue 1 giants.

Romano confirms that Spurs have now identified Thomas Frank as their leading candidate and are expected to hold talks with the Dane over the coming days.

Roberto De Zerbi would have softened the blow of losing Ange Postecoglou

An appointment such as De Zerbi would have signalled ambition from Spurs and made Postecoglou’s sacking much easier to digest for Tottenham Hotspur fans.

While Thomas Frank’s credentials cannot be doubted, given what he has achieved at Brentford with minimal resources, the Dane’s appointment may not inspire the fan base in the same way.

The worry for Spurs is that, just as we saw with the Nuno Espirito Santo situation a few years ago, Frank may find it very difficult to overcome those doubts and win over the supporters.

It is not just Ange Postecoglou who has been relieved of his duties over the past 24 hours, with reports indicating that another senior Tottenham official has also been sacked by Daniel Levy.

It has been widely reported that there are expected to be wholesale changes at Tottenham this summer, and that is now materialising.

Donna-Maria Cullen has stepped down from the club’s board while Ryan Mason has left the club to take over as West Brom’s head coach. Experienced Spurs academy coach, Paul Bracewell, was also dismissed at the start of the summer.

After a long wait, it was confirmed on Friday that Ange Postecoglou had been sacked by Tottenham after a thorough review of the team’s performance.

Now, it appears that exit number five could be on the cards, with another high-profile Tottenham figure given his marching orders by chairman Daniel Levy.

Scott Munn has been sacked by Daniel Levy at Tottenham

According to reports, fellow Australian Scott Munn is also set to follow his compatriot out the door.

The 51-year-old joined as Tottenham’s chief football officer two years ago but, according to various journalists, including The Sun’s Tom Barclay, he has now been removed from the role by Daniel Levy.

Another big change is around the corner at Spurs

We are expected to see further big moves over the coming days and weeks, with many outlets claiming that Fabio Paratici is expected to return to Tottenham in an official role.

The Italian previously held the role of managing director of football at the club and was forced to resign following his FIFA ban, which is now set to expire.

Lucas Bergvall reveals how it felt to miss out on Tottenham’s Europa League final - Spurs Web
Description

Lucas Bergvall has been speaking about his ‘crazy’ first season at Tottenham Hotspur and has opened up on how he felt when he knew that his injury had ruled him out of the Europa League final.

From an individual perspective, the Swede could not have hoped for his first season in the Premier League to have gone any better.

While it is arguable if he would have got as many opportunities if not for the club’s injury crisis, the youngster certainly grabbed them with both hands, with Bergvall sweeping all of Tottenham’s end-of-season awards.

The youngster has been rewarded with a new six-year contract and according to some reports, Bergvall is now in a similar salary bracket to the highest earners at Spurs.

Lucas Bergvall opens up on Tottenham frustration

It felt like the 19-year-old’s fairytale season was building to the ultimate climax, with the stage being set for the midfielder to dominate in the showpiece event in Bilbao.

However, the youngster picked up an ankle injury just a couple of weeks before the final and even though Bergvall worked very hard to recover in time for the final, the clash at San Mames came too quickly for him.

Thankfully, his teammates got the job done in the final without him and the Sweden international has now opened up what was going through his mind when he realised that he will not be featuring in what would have been the biggest game of his career so far.

MORE SPURS STORIES

When asked about missing the Europa League final, Bergvall told Tottenham’s official website: “At first it was really frustrating and so disappointing knowing I wouldn’t be part of it, in terms of playing. But then I knew I had to support the lads, support the team, just help wherever I could, just to be positive and to be there for them.”

When asked about his rehabilitation, the midfielder responded: “I’m getting better every day. I’m still here training and rehabbing and I’ve done that for about two weeks now. I’m going on holiday soon, but I just want to make sure everything is right.”

Bergvall says there is more to come from next season

The teenager admitted that things could not have gone much better for him in his first season in England after arriving straight from Allsvenskan.

Bergvall confessed that training with world-class players at Hotspur Way regularly has elevated his game and he whetted the appetite of Spurs fans by suggesting that there is a lot more to come from him.

When asked about sweeping all of the awards in his first season at Tottenham, the former Djurgardens man said: “It’s been crazy. I’ve learned a lot this year, both on and off the pitch, just training every day here with some of the top players in the world, the staff.

“I’m so grateful for this season and for everyone helping me to achieve these awards. It’s such a big honour. I can’t really describe it. It’s an amazing feeling – and there is more come.”

Description

Amidst reports linking Swedish starlet Roony Bardghji with a move to Tottenham, Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed a big detail about the winger’s future at Copenhagen.

Spurs have had plenty of success when it comes to signing talented teenagers and helping them mature into top-class players.

They could now turn their attention to the young Copenhagen star, with the speculation linking the 19-year-old with a move to N17 gathering steam since he returned to action from his ACL injury back in March.

A number of outlets have reported over recent months that Tottenham may test the waters with an offer for Bardghji this summer.

A few days ago, it emerged that Bardghji had refused to sign a new contract at Copenhagen, and with his contract running out in January 2026, his days at the Danish club are numbered.

The outlet claimed that Tottenham Hotspur and the Sweden Under-21 international’s other suitors might have a chance to sign him for a cut-price fee this summer.

Fabrizio Romano has now taken to social media to confirm that Bardghji is not expected to put pen to paper on an extension at Copenhagen.

While the Italian transfer expert did not specifically mention Tottenham’s interest, he made it clear there is no shortage of clubs queuing up to sign the Sweden Under-21 international.

Spurs may have one advantage in the race for Bardghji

Earlier this week, it was revealed by GiveMeSport that Tottenham face competition from Aston Villa and Newcastle for Bardghji this summer.

The outlet claimed that both clubs had reached out to the winger’s representatives, and asserted that the player could be available for just £10m.

Description

Ange Postecoglou has officially parted ways with Tottenham Hotspur and just like that, the Australian’s time as head coach is over.

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed Ange Postecoglou had been sacked in a statement on Friday, which came on his two-year anniversary of taking up the job.

Tottenham fans reacted to Postecoglou’s sacking with mixed views – while some felt the Premier League form was unforgivable, others believed that leading Tottenham to win the Europa League final against Manchester United meant he deserved to continue.

Club captain Heung-min Son has also now broken his silence on the dismissal of Postecoglou following on from other members of the Tottenham first-team squad on Friday.

Heung-min Son on Ange Postecoglou’s sacking by Tottenham

Son has taken to Instagram to send a message to his former boss in which he praised the 59-year-old.

The South Korean did not hold back with his tribute in which he claimed Postecoglou had changed the trajectory of the club following their Europa League success which ended a seventeen-year wait for a major trophy.

There was also a deeply personal element to Son’s tribute in which he claimed the Australian had improved him both on and off the pitch, while also thanking him for making him Tottenham captain following the departure of Harry Kane.

He wrote on Instagram: “Gaffer. You’ve changed the trajectory of this club. You believed in yourself, and us, since day one and never wavered for a second. Even when others did.

“You knew what we were capable of all along. You did it your way. And your way brought this club the best night it’s had in decades. We will have those memories for life.

“You trusted me with the captaincy. One of the highest honours of my career. It’s been an incredible privilege to learn from your leadership up close, I am a better player and a better person because of you.

“Ange Postecoglou, you are a Tottenham Hotspur legend forever. Thank you, mate.”

Were Tottenham right to sack Ange Postecoglou?

This is the very subject which appears to have decided the fanbase. Whether you are happy with the decision or not, one thing is for sure, it has completely derailed the momentum of the Europa League success.

While clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester City are busy improving their squads – Tottenham are at a standstill while they look to appoint a replacement.

Members of the Tottenham Hotspur squad have already started to pay tribute to Ange Postecoglou after he was dismissed from his role as manager.

For most of the Tottenham first-team squad, it is a sad weekend. Ange Postecoglou was well loved by his players, but their opinions have seemingly not been taken into consideration.

Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall both called for Postecoglou to stay at Tottenham last month. This theme continued, as Pedro Porro said Postecoglou was good for the dressing room, whilst on international duty with Spain.

However, a decision has been made to look for a new manager, after Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League, thus setting an unwanted record as the side’s worst ever league campaign

Tottenham players react to Ange Postecoglou’s sacking

A number of Spurs players have taken to social media to deliver heartfelt farewell messages to their former manager after Postecoglou was sacked by Daniel Levy on Friday evening.

Pedro Porro posted on his Instagram page: “Thank you for everything, boss. For mentoring me early on, helping me settle into the club, and trusting me out on the pitch. I’ll always be grateful for the way you led us, defended us, and kept us going through all the highs and lows.

“Above everything, you gave us one of the greatest moments in the club’s history and for that, you’ll always be celebrated. Wishing you all the very best, boss.”

Later, Richarlison posted about how Postecoglou had helped him both on and off the pitch. He said: “Mister, massive thanks for helping me out and believing in me during one of the trickiest periods of my career and my life.

“Everyone who loves the Spurs will remember that Big Ange always bags trophies in his second season. We’ve made history! Cheers and good luck on your journey! I’ll always be rooting for you.” 🙏🏽👏🏽 (Instagram)

Dominic Solanke also made an Instagram post, where he thanked Postecoglou for allowing him to become part of the Tottenham Hotspur journey. He said: “Thank you for bringing me to this wonderful club, thank you for bringing us a wonderful trophy, Won’t ever forget the convo we had before I signed and we achieved a dream! All the best in your next adventure.”🙏🏾🤍

Spurs need to keep their players on-side

The decision to sack Postecoglou seems a strange one based on timings. His reputation amongst the supporters rose drastically after the Europa League final and he seemed to be a popular figure with his players.

Harry Kane leaves Tottenham fans frustrated after snubbing Spurs memories in interview - Spurs Web
Description

Harry Kane may have given Tottenham Hotspur some of their greatest memories, but his recent comments have left a sour taste in the mouths of Spurs fans.

Harry Kane is widely regarded as a legend of Tottenham Hotspur, as the forward spent some of his best years in N17, becoming the club’s leading goalscorer in the process.

The England International has since left Spurs for Germany, joining Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023, but Kane has continued to maintain a relationship with his former club, even wishing Tottenham the best of luck ahead of their Europa League final and congratulating Spurs after their final win.

However, a recent interview involving the Bundesliga forward has left Tottenham fans unhappy, as Kane failed to mention any of his moments in a Lilywhite shirt as his favourite or best.

Tottenham fans upset after Harry Kane ignores Spurs memories

Speaking to Livescore, when quizzed about some of his best strikes, Harry Kane named his halfway line goal for Bayern Munich last year as his best goal scored.

Asked about the favourite goal he has ever scored, the former Spurs man chose his England debut strike as his most cherished.

As for the most important goal he has scored, Kane pointed to his semi-final goal at the Euros against Denmark.

MORE SPURS STORIES

For his most underrated effort, the Englishman went with his second goal against Tunisia in the 2018 World Cup, and when asked about his favourite fan interaction, he cited the reaction from supporters when he scored at Wembley against Germany.

With no tribute paid to any of his strikes for Tottenham, Spurs supporters were quick to react to Kane’s comments on social media, with many not best pleased.

One fan said: “There is no chance that halfway line goal for Bayern means more to him than the masked Arsenal goal… absolutely no chance. I cannot believe that for one second. I do not want to believe that, come on, Harry.”

Another stated: “He could have been a club legend. Could have broken the Premier League all-time scoring record. Instead, he went and won a league trophy at a club that the league literally purposely feeds so they can compete in the UCL.”

Another felt like he had turned on Spurs: “Turning your back on the fans that loved and defended you to the death, 2min TikTok clip, could not even be bothered to come to the final to watch your ‘mates’, poxy ‘congrats’ tweet and now not even mention the Arsenal goal, you still have not won a cup you won a SHIELD.”

One simply asked: “Why does he hate us?” Another fan was quick to acknowledge he had been rattled: “This has rattled me omg.”

Another said: “Cannot believe he did not mention the face mask goal against Arsenal. He truly is dead to us.”

Spurs fans divided over Harry Kane’s England focus

Kane is currently on international break with the England squad, and some Tottenham fans believe that the answers to these questions are mostly tailored to England because of his international duties.

One fan said: “It does not say it but the fact he is now away with England I am guessing all his answers had to be based on England. So not really understanding how we have come to the conclusion he does not like Tottenham, he did not give a Bayern answer either if that helps.”

Indeed, regardless of his comments on social media, the England captain did give Spurs fans some of their best memories when he put on a Tottenham shirt, as he continually hurt the enemy Arsenal, scoring 14 goals in 17 appearances against the Gunners.

Fraser Forster could be set for a shock move to another big Premier League club following his Tottenham Hotspur departure this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur fans continue to watch rival clubs complete new signings this summer window, while their side is yet to decide on who will be in the Spurs dugout next season, with Ange Postecoglou’s future said to be uncertain.

Of course, Spurs have not been completely idle this summer window, as Tottenham have completed their £21 million obligation to buy Kevin Danso from RC Lens, following his initial loan in January.

Tottenham have also announced the departure of four other players, including Alfie Whiteman, Timo Werner, Sergio Reguilon and Fraser Forster.

Newcastle eye Fraser Forster transfer after Tottenham exit

Spurs are reported to have saved £15.6 million in yearly wages following the departure of those four stars, but now, one of them is being monitored by another Premier League team.

Indeed, Fraser Forster had increased game time at Tottenham last season, following the club’s injury crisis, with Forster playing 13 times.

However, the 37-year-old veteran goalkeeper’s contract expires on 30 June, and since he is no longer on Spurs’ books, he is free to join a new club.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Journalist Craig Hope is now reporting that Newcastle United have identified Fraser Forster as a potential signing this summer, with the Magpies looking to bring in a new goalkeeper to complement Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka.

It is one to keep an eye on this transfer window, as Newcastle have other targets on their list, with James Trafford of Burnley being monitored by Eddie Howe’s side as well (GIVEMESPORT).

Spurs covered in goal despite Fraser Forster’s departure

Fraser Forster, who made 34 appearances for Tottenham in his three-year spell at the club, is no stranger to life at Newcastle, as he spent seven years there in the early stages of his career without making a single appearance, before being loaned out to Stockport County, Bristol Rovers, Norwich and Celtic.

Tottenham are covered in the goalkeeping department in their squad, with Antonin Kinsky a backup to Guglielmo Vicario, while Brandon Austin serves as a third-choice option.

Tottenham defender Ben Davies has broken his silence amid links to Wrexham, as uncertainty continues to swirl around his future at Spurs.

After spending over a decade at Tottenham, Davies could leave as a free agent this summer, with several clubs from both the Championship and Premier League having shown interest in the experienced defender.

It was revealed on 31 May that Championship side Wrexham have opened talks to sign Ben Davies, while Leeds United are also said to be keen on the 32-year-old.

Tottenham Hotspur still hold the option to extend Davies’ current contract by a further year, but a decision on that front is yet to be made.

Ben Davies responds to Wrexham interest amid Tottenham exit talk

The Wales international has now been quizzed about his future amid links to Wrexham. When asked about the situation, Ben Davies made it clear that he is not the one making the decisions and that he is currently focused solely on the national team.

He said, as relayed by WalesOnline: “I do not think there is anything to update to be honest, I do not think I am going to be the person who is making any of those decisions, so as far as I am concerned, it is full focus here this week.”

Late last month, Tottenham announced the departure of four squad players, whose contracts are set to expire on 30 June, but are not to be renewed by the club.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Sergio Reguilon, Fraser Forster, Timo Werner and Alfie Whiteman are all off the books at Tottenham, with Spurs set to save £15.6 million yearly following their departure.

However, two names were omitted from the list of announced exits, including Ben Davies, whose contract is also set to expire later this month.

Davies’ future at Spurs and what comes next

In his more than ten years at Tottenham, Davies has made over 350 appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring nine goals and assisting 26 times across all competitions.

The Wales international has been part of the fabric at Spurs for the last decade, but it was only last season that he got his crowning moment, as he was part of the Tottenham side to win a trophy for the first time in 17 years, after the N17 club won the Europa League.
