Tottenham Hotspur are set to push ahead with a move for an experienced Premier League manager after an Italian coach turned down the chance to replace Ange Postecoglou at N17.

As expected, the decision to sack Postecoglou has not gone down well with many Spurs fans, who felt that the Australian had earned the opportunity to build on the Europa League success.

Tottenham explained that they had decided to sack Postecoglou after significant reflection, pointing out that the 59-year-old has managed to get just 78 points from the club’s last 66 Premier League games.

According to reports, Spurs are expected to make a managerial appointment by next week, having already narrowed down on their top candidates.

Roberto De Zerbi has rejected Tottenham’s approach

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Tottenham approached Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi over recent days about replacing Postecoglou.

However, the former Brighton boss turned down the advances and made it clear that he wants to remain with the Ligue 1 giants.

Romano confirms that Spurs have now identified Thomas Frank as their leading candidate and are expected to hold talks with the Dane over the coming days.

An appointment such as De Zerbi would have signalled ambition from Spurs and made Postecoglou’s sacking much easier to digest for Tottenham Hotspur fans.

When asked about missing the Europa League final, Bergvall told Tottenham’s official website: “At first it was really frustrating and so disappointing knowing I wouldn’t be part of it, in terms of playing. But then I knew I had to support the lads, support the team, just help wherever I could, just to be positive and to be there for them.”

When asked about his rehabilitation, the midfielder responded: “I’m getting better every day. I’m still here training and rehabbing and I’ve done that for about two weeks now. I’m going on holiday soon, but I just want to make sure everything is right.”

The teenager admitted that things could not have gone much better for him in his first season in England after arriving straight from Allsvenskan.

Bergvall confessed that training with world-class players at Hotspur Way regularly has elevated his game and he whetted the appetite of Spurs fans by suggesting that there is a lot more to come from him.

Amidst reports linking Swedish starlet Roony Bardghji with a move to Tottenham, Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed a big detail about the winger’s future at Copenhagen.

A number of Spurs players have taken to social media to deliver heartfelt farewell messages to their former manager after Postecoglou was sacked by Daniel Levy on Friday evening.

Pedro Porro posted on his Instagram page: “Thank you for everything, boss. For mentoring me early on, helping me settle into the club, and trusting me out on the pitch. I’ll always be grateful for the way you led us, defended us, and kept us going through all the highs and lows.

“Above everything, you gave us one of the greatest moments in the club’s history and for that, you’ll always be celebrated. Wishing you all the very best, boss.”

Later, Richarlison posted about how Postecoglou had helped him both on and off the pitch. He said: “Mister, massive thanks for helping me out and believing in me during one of the trickiest periods of my career and my life.

The decision to sack Postecoglou seems a strange one based on timings. His reputation amongst the supporters rose drastically after the Europa League final and he seemed to be a popular figure with his players.

Porro ultimately finished the match with a higher rating than Desire Doue, with the Tottenham man grabbing a 7.4 rating on Fotmob, despite giving away a penalty. He also registered an assist, while Doue earned a 6.1 rating before being substituted in the 63rd minute.
