Description

Tottenham defender Ben Davies has broken his silence amid links to Wrexham, as uncertainty continues to swirl around his future at Spurs.

After spending over a decade at Tottenham, Davies could leave as a free agent this summer, with several clubs from both the Championship and Premier League having shown interest in the experienced defender.

It was revealed on 31 May that Championship side Wrexham have opened talks to sign Ben Davies, while Leeds United are also said to be keen on the 32-year-old.

Tottenham Hotspur still hold the option to extend Davies’ current contract by a further year, but a decision on that front is yet to be made.

Ben Davies responds to Wrexham interest amid Tottenham exit talk

The Wales international has now been quizzed about his future amid links to Wrexham. When asked about the situation, Ben Davies made it clear that he is not the one making the decisions and that he is currently focused solely on the national team.

He said, as relayed by WalesOnline: “I do not think there is anything to update to be honest, I do not think I am going to be the person who is making any of those decisions, so as far as I am concerned, it is full focus here this week.”

Late last month, Tottenham announced the departure of four squad players, whose contracts are set to expire on 30 June, but are not to be renewed by the club.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Sergio Reguilon, Fraser Forster, Timo Werner and Alfie Whiteman are all off the books at Tottenham, with Spurs set to save £15.6 million yearly following their departure.

However, two names were omitted from the list of announced exits, including Ben Davies, whose contract is also set to expire later this month.

Davies’ future at Spurs and what comes next

In his more than ten years at Tottenham, Davies has made over 350 appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring nine goals and assisting 26 times across all competitions.

The Wales international has been part of the fabric at Spurs for the last decade, but it was only last season that he got his crowning moment, as he was part of the Tottenham side to win a trophy for the first time in 17 years, after the N17 club won the Europa League.

Brentford's stance on Thomas Frank's future revealed with Tottenham searching for new manager - Spurs Web
Description

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has emerged as a strong candidate for the vacant Tottenham job, and Spurs have just been handed a major boost in their pursuit of the Bees manager.

Tottenham Hotspur have only just broken one of the biggest stories of the summer, after announcing the departure of Ange Postecoglou on the second anniversary of his appointment.

If you have been keeping up with Spurs Web’s coverage, the news may not have come as something of a surprise, given that most reports had claimed Postecoglou’s fate had already been sealed and that he was set to be sacked.

Tottenham issued a lengthy statement, thanking Postecoglou for his commitment to the club and for delivering a piece of silverware in just two seasons.

However, they also made it clear that a return of only 78 points from their last 66 Premier League matches was not deemed good enough, and that they had decided to look elsewhere.

The statement concluded: “We should like to express our gratitude to him [Postecoglou]. We wish him well for the future – he will always be welcome back at our home. News on the appointment of a new Head Coach will be announced in due course.”

Brentford will not block Thomas Frank if Tottenham come calling

With an official appointment of a new manager expected soon, Sky Sports is now reporting that one of the frontrunners for the Tottenham job would face no resistance from his current club, should he wish to leave.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tottenham have been linked with Brentford manager Thomas Frank for some time now, and reports have previously suggested that Spurs have already held talks with the Dane, with the project in north London having been outlined to him in those discussions.

Sky Sports News (6/6/26 – 4:53pm) now state that Brentford will not stand in Thomas Frank’s way if he chooses to join a bigger club this summer, which undoubtedly represents a significant boost for Tottenham as they search for Postecoglou’s successor.

Spurs interest in Thomas Frank shows his growing reputation

Thomas Frank has certainly impressed during his time at Brentford, with the Dane leading the Bees to two top-half finishes across the last three Premier League seasons.

Frank has also received high praise from Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, who claimed back in 2024 that the 51-year-old was destined for a move to a bigger club.

Pep said after Brentford gave his side another scare in the Premier League: “They are an extraordinary team. What they do always makes sense. Every corner is a headache. They are compact. This season, they have a high press. Thomas is one of the best.”

Asked if he was surprised that Frank – who was appointed assistant head coach at Brentford in 2016 before replacing Dean Smith two years later – was still not managing one of Europe’s elite clubs, Guardiola replied: “It is just a question of time. I am good in a few things, one of which is reading when the manager is good. It is going to happen.”(BBC Sport)

Ange Postecoglou issues emotional farewell statement after Tottenham sacking - Spurs Web
Description

Ange Postecoglou has now broken his silence following his dismissal by Tottenham Hotspur, delivering a stirring statement to the Spurs faithful.

Tottenham Hotspur have now given Ange Postecoglou the sack after two years in charge of the Lilywhites following his appointment back in 2023.

The Australian manager has been relieved of his duties as manager following a disastrous Premier League campaign that saw him lead Spurs to a 17th-place finish, the worst ever in the club’s history.

It was not all gloom during Ange Postecoglou’s time at Tottenham, as he delivered on his second-season trophy promise, after Spurs won the Europa League last month, beating Manchester United 1-0 in Spain.

Ange Postecoglou releases emotional statement after Tottenham sacking

The Australian manager now becomes the 15th manager to receive a sack from chairman Daniel Levy, who has now opted for a fresh start following Ange Postecoglou’s dismal Premier League campaign.

The 59-year-old manager has now released a heartfelt message of thanks and gratitude following his dismissal after only his second season as Tottenham manager.

Ange Postecoglou said, as relayed by CAA Base on X: “When I reflect on my time as Manager of Tottenham Hotspur my overriding emotion is one of pride.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“The opportunity to lead one of England’s historic football clubs and bring back the glory it deserves will live with me for a lifetime. Sharing that experience with all those who truly love this club and seeing the impact it had on them is something I will never forget.

“That night in Bilbao was the culmination of two years of hard work, dedication and unwavering belief in a dream. There were many challenges to overcome and plenty of noise that comes with trying to accomplish what many said was not possible.

“We have also laid foundations that mean this club should not have to wait 17 more years for their next success. I have enormous faith in this group of players and know there is much more potential and growth in them.”

Ange Postecoglou added: “I sincerely want to thank those who are the lifeblood of the club, the supporters. I know there were some difficult times but I always felt that they wanted me to succeed and that gave me all the motivation I needed to push on. It is important to acknowledge the hard working people at Spurs who gave me encouragement on a daily basis.

“And finally. I want to thank those who were with me every day for the last two years. A fantastic group of young men who are now legends of this football club and the brilliant coaches who never once doubted we could do something special. We are forever connected”

Spurs fans will cherish Postecoglou’s legacy

The Tottenham fans are sure to hold the memories Postecoglou gave them dearly, as many fans had never seen this club lift a piece of silverware, while others had waited 17 years to witness another trophy lift, and for many, a European trophy was last seen in 1984.

The Spurs fans would be very grateful to the manager as he ended Tottenham Hotspur’s banter era, and has got supporters believing in their club once more.

Ange Postecoglou’s time as Tottenham Hotspur manager has come to an end despite him guiding the club to a first trophy in 17 years.

The Australian departs the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium despite having won the Europa League trophy following a 1-0 victory against Manchester United in Bilbao last month.

While the Premier League has been a tough watch during the 2024/25 campaign with a number of key players including Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and James Maddison, their form in Europe was impressive.

Tottenham ended the season in seventeenth place in the Premier League table , finishing the campaign just 13 points above the relegation zone.

Tottenham fans have been torn over the decision, which has become very emotional for some considering Ange Postecoglou delivered a major trophy.

Where do Tottenham go from here?

Tottenham have waited over two weeks to make this decision after Postecoglou delivered glory, and in the meantime other clubs have already been signing players to improve their squad.

Tottenham reveal why they sacked Ange Postecoglou in long official statement - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have officially parted ways with Ange Postecoglou after just two seasons in charge, bringing an end to a turbulent spell that delivered both European glory and domestic disaster.

Speculation has been rife about the future of Ange Postecoglou following a mixed finish to the 2024/25 season, which saw the Australian deliver on his second-season promise after he won the UEFA Europa League one month ago.

However, domestically, Tottenham suffered their worst ever finish in the Premier League, as they ended the campaign in 17th place, lost 22 matches and finished with a negative goal difference.

For a club of Tottenham’s stature, that record is far from acceptable, and it has now seen manager Ange Postecoglou come under intense scrutiny, despite winning the Lilywhites their first trophy in 17 years and their first European honour in over four decades.

Tottenham sack Ange Postecoglou after two seasons

Following weeks of media speculation, it has now been confirmed that Ange Postecoglou has been sacked after two seasons in the Tottenham dugout.

The Australian manager now joins a long list of 15 managers who have received the sack under chairman Daniel Levy, in his 24 years at the helm of the club.

Postecoglou took charge of 76 Premier League games during his time at Tottenham but ended with a disappointing record, losing 34 matches and winning 31, with the rest ending in draws.

MORE SPURS STORIES

He has now been relieved of his duties and is expected to receive a six-figure sum of £7 million following his dismissal, with Tottenham set to pay Postecoglou a full year’s salary of £5 million, along with a £2 million bonus for winning the Europa League.

Tottenham released an official statement on Postecoglou’s sacking, explaining why they made the tough decision:

‘Following a review of performances and after significant reflection, the Club can announce that Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties.

‘Ange joined us from Celtic in the summer of 2023 and oversaw a period of change on the pitch, returning us to the attacking brand of football that has traditionally been associated with the Club, while writing a new chapter in our history by leading us to UEFA Europa League glory in Bilbao last month – an achievement that will live with us all forever.

‘We are extremely grateful to Ange for his commitment and contribution during his two years at the Club. Ange will always be remembered as only the third manager in our history to deliver a European trophy, alongside legendary figures Bill Nicholson and Keith Burkinshaw.

‘However, the Board has unanimously concluded that it is in the best interests of the Club for a change to take place. Following a positive start in the 2023/24 Premier League (PL) season, we recorded 78 points from the last 66 PL games. This culminated in our worst-ever PL finish last season.

‘At times there were extenuating circumstances – injuries and then a decision to prioritise our European campaign. Whilst winning the Europa League this season ranks as one of the Club’s greatest moments, we cannot base our decision on emotions aligned to this triumph.

‘It is crucial that we are able to compete on multiple fronts and believe a change of approach will give us the strongest chance for the coming season and beyond. This has been one of the toughest decisions we have had to make and is not a decision that we have taken lightly, nor one we have rushed to conclude.

‘We have made what we believe is the right decision to give us the best chance of success going forward, not the easy decision. We have a talented, young squad and Ange has given us a great platform to build upon.

‘We should like to express our gratitude to him. We wish him well for the future – he will always be welcome back at our home.News on the appointment of a new Head Coach will be announced in due course.’

Spurs now focused on managerial search after Postecoglou exit

Tottenham’s focus would now turn to securing the services of a new manager, with reports linking the Lilywhites with several different options in recent months.

Brentford’s Thomas Frank remains in the running after it was reported that Tottenham have held talks about their project with the Bees manager.

Former Inter Milan boss has also been linked with Spurs and could be an option following his departure from the San Siro after losing the UEFA Champions League final 5-0.

It remains to be seen who Tottenham appoint next, but they would need to act swiftly as the north club now prepares for a crucial summer rebuild.

Description

Ange Postecoglou is the latest casualty in a ruthless managerial cycle at Tottenham, where Daniel Levy’s axe has swung with relentless consistency over the last two decades. Here are all the Spurs managers to have been sacked by Levy.

Daniel Levy has been the Chairman of Tottenham Hotspur for well over two decades now, having taken charge in 2001. The Spurs Chairman has not been a popular figure at north London, with Tottenham fans regularly protesting against Levy and the way he runs the football club.

The N17 club has managed just two trophies under the ownership of ENIC, following the Lilywhites’ League Cup win back in 2008 and the UEFA Europa League more recently in the 2024/25 season.

While success has not been plentiful at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Levy has never hesitated to pull the trigger on underperforming managers.

After just two seasons at the helm, Ange Postecoglou has now become the latest victim of Daniel Levy, joining a long list of 15 Tottenham bosses to be handed the sack by the ruthless chairman, despite delivering Spurs’ first piece of silverware in 17 years.

Here are the other managers to have been sacked by Daniel Levy in the last 24 years since he took charge:

The 15 Tottenham managers sacked by Daniel Levy

George Graham was Daniel Levy’s first Tottenham victim

As the first sacking of the Levy era, Arsenal great George Graham did not continue his managerial career after Tottenham and instead transitioned into a role as a television pundit.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Glenn Hoddle’s Tottenham history did not save him

Glenn Hoddle was Levy’s first managerial appointment and reached a League Cup final, which Spurs ultimately lost to Blackburn Rovers.

He was sacked in 2003, later managing Wolves for two years and working as a part-time coach at QPR under Harry Redknapp. Hoddle has remained a familiar face on television screens as a pundit, often appearing on TNT Sports.

David Pleat

A long-serving figure at Tottenham, David Pleat returned in a caretaker role for the third time following Hoddle’s departure, overseeing the remainder of the 2003/04 season.

In 2010, Pleat came back as a consultant scout for Tottenham and stayed until 2024. He is now often seen attending matches and supporting Motor Neurone Disease (MND) research efforts in memory of his late wife.

Jacques Santini

One of the more forgettable names in Levy’s managerial logbook, Santini had the second shortest tenure, taking charge of only 13 matches in which Spurs averaged just 1.36 points.

He left the club abruptly, citing “private” reasons, though it later emerged that his working relationship with sporting director Frank Arnesen had broken down. He later joined Auxerre, where he ended his coaching career.

Martin Jol

Jol, initially Santini’s assistant, took over and delivered back-to-back fifth-placed finishes. But following Spurs’ worst domestic start in 19 years, his spell ended in 2007.

Unlike several of his predecessors, Jol did go on to enjoy a lengthy managerial career, including stints at Hamburg, Ajax, Al-Ahly and a brief return to English football with Fulham. His three years at Tottenham remain his longest stint at any club.

Juande Ramos faced the sack soon after delivering Tottenham trophy

Juande Ramos arrived at Tottenham off the back of consecutive UEFA Cup triumphs with Sevilla and delivered immediate silverware, winning the League Cup in 2008 after beating Chelsea at Wembley and overcoming Arsenal in the semi-final.

However, things unravelled swiftly. He managed just two points from the opening eight matches of the 2008/09 season and was promptly dismissed. Ramos was later appointed by Real Madrid and managed in Russia and Ukraine, though he never quite found similar success.

Harry Redknapp almost joined England, then got sacked by Tottenham

Harry Redknapp, the second-longest serving manager under Levy, enjoyed strong support from the fanbase, but rumours linking him to the England job destabilised his reign.

Though Roy Hodgson ultimately landed the England role, Spurs’ late collapse in the 2011/12 season led to Redknapp’s dismissal.

Now 77, Redknapp has since retired, with his final managerial jobs coming at QPR, Birmingham City, and with the Jordan national team.

Andre Villas-Boas

Despite David Moyes being tipped as favourite for the Tottenham job, it was Andre Villas-Boas who replaced Redknapp, keen to rebuild his reputation after a turbulent spell at Chelsea.

His first season was impressive, guiding Spurs to a then-record Premier League points total of 72, but a 5-0 home defeat to Liverpool in December 2013 sealed his fate.

Tim Sherwood was second to none at Tottenham

Tim Sherwood famously claimed he was “the best manager this club’s ever seen” thanks to his 59.1 per cent win rate during a six-month spell in charge. His touchline antics included giving his gilet to a fan, inviting him to take over. He later managed Aston Villa for a brief spell and is now a pundit on Sky Sports.

Mauricio Pochettino went from Champions League final to Tottenham graveyard

Mauricio Pochettino holds the record as Levy’s longest-serving manager, taking Spurs to two FA Cup semi-finals, two title challenges and a memorable Champions League final in 2019.

However, with Spurs sitting 14th in the table, he was dismissed in late 2019. He later managed Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, and is now set to lead the USA national team into the 2026 World Cup.

Jose Mourinho couldn’t win at Tottenham

Jose Mourinho was controversially sacked just days before the 2021 Carabao Cup final, denying him the opportunity to deliver the club’s first trophy in over a decade. He later guided AS Roma to the Europa Conference League title and is currently in charge of Fenerbahce.

Nuno Espirito Santo

Hired as Mourinho’s long-term successor, Nuno Espirito Santo lasted only four months, losing four out of six league games before being sacked.

After a brief stint in Saudi Arabia, he returned to England and now manages Nottingham Forest, remarkably guiding them into the top six after they pushed for UEFA Champions League qualification.

Antonio Conte

Antonio Conte’s tenure ended after just 16 months, departing by mutual consent following a fiery press conference in which he slammed the club’s mentality after a draw against Southampton. He has since taken charge of Napoli, guiding them to the Scudetto.

Cristian Stellini

Conte’s assistant Cristian Stellini was promoted to interim manager but lasted just four games, culminating in a humiliating 6-1 defeat to Newcastle. He has since reunited with Conte as part of the coaching team at Napoli.

Ange Postecoglou becomes unlucky number 15 at Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou made an instant impact at Tottenham, winning his first ten Premier League games; however, when injuries hit key members of his first team, the Lilywhites struggled to find consistency, but still managed to finish 5th in the Premier League.

His second spell at Tottenham saw the north London club fall all the way down to 17th place, 12 places worse than his first spell, a run that saw Spurs lose 22 games in the Premier League.

Regardless, the Australian manager managed to achieve something many before him did not, as he delivered the club’s first silverware in 17 years with a UEFA Europa League triumph.

Of course, even continental success could not safeguard his job, with Daniel Levy opting to dismiss him after just two seasons.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have parted company with Ange Postecoglou, with Daniel Levy giving the Europa League winner the sack after two years despite ending a 17-year trophy drought.

The Australian manager did enjoy a successful few weeks at the helm of Spurs in his first ten games during the 2023/24 season, where he had Tottenham topping the Premier League table.

However, injuries have since hit his squad, and it has only derailed the club’s league trajectory ever since, with Postecoglou suffering more league defeats than wins in his 76 games in charge during his time at Hotspur Way, losing 34 Premier League matches, while winning 31.

The 59-year-old’s second season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has only raised more concerns about the form of the Lilywhites, as the north London club ended their 2024/25 campaign in 17th place, after losing 22 games.

Tottenham sack Ange Postecoglou after two turbulent seasons

Ange Postecoglou did manage to bring about success on the continental stage, winning Tottenham their first ever European trophy after 41 years, while also ending their 17-year wait for a piece of major honour.

However, that has proven to be no saving grace for the Australian, as Spurs have now confirmed his sacking after two full seasons as head coach of the Lilywhites.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It has been reported that Tottenham would have to pay Postecoglou a six-figure sum of £7 million should they pull the trigger, with Spurs having to pay Postecoglou a full year’s salary of £5 million, including a £2 million bonus for winning the Europa League.

Postecoglou joins long list of managers sacked by Spurs

Ange Postecoglou now joins the long list of 15 managers that have been sacked by Daniel Levy in his 24 years in charge of Spurs.

A list that includes the likes of Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte, Mauricio Pochettino, Nuno Espirito Santo, Andre Villas-Boas and the likes, some of whom have gone on to have successful managerial careers after.

Tottenham’s focus would now turn to identifying the man to lead the club forward as they look to plan for the 2025/26 season, with transfers and pre-season now in the mix.

Tottenham receive Benjamin Sesko transfer blow amidst ‘concrete talks’ - Spurs Web
Description

Amidst reports that Tottenham Hotspur are stepping up their interest in Benjamin Sesko, it has now emerged that the Lilywhites have been overtaken in the transfer race by their London rivals.

Sesko has developed into one of the best number nines in the Bundesliga since his move to Leipzig two years ago, with the striker finishing the 2024-25 campaign with 21 goals and six assists to his name.

It has been reported over recent weeks that after qualifying for the Champions League, Tottenham are ready to flex their financial muscle by making a move offer for Sesko.

This was backed up a few days ago by ESPN who confirmed that Sesko is one of two Leipzig stars that Spurs have their eye on, with the other one being attacking midfielder Xavi Simons.

Arsenal are in talks about signing Benjamin Sesko

However, Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of the 22-year-old just got a lot harder as it has emerged that their North London rivals have now launched a serious move for the striker.

This update comes from Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, who reveals that Arsenal have now entered into ‘concrete talks’ over a deal for Sesko.

The Gunners have acquired all information regarding the Slovenian’s release clause and the payment structure.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The journalist makes no mention of Spurs in his update, naming Man United as the other club eyeing the Leipzig star, but he makes it clear that Arsenal are the only ones currently in contact with the Bundesliga club about the striker.

How much would teams have to pay for Sesko this summer?

The centre-forward has a €80m (£66.2m) release clause in his contract, and it was reported by GiveMeSport back in March that Tottenham are refusing to rule out activating Sesko’s release clause.

That update claimed that the Lilywhites’ interest in the Leipzig man is independent of their desire to land Mathys Tel permanently.

Bournemouth tell Tottenham how much Antoine Semenyo will now cost them - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have just been handed a massive blow in their pursuit of Antoine Semenyo, with a new report revealing that Bournemouth have informed the North Londoners that they will have to shell out an astronomical fee to sign the winger this summer.

Over the last few days, an increasing number of outlets have suggested that Tottenham may cash in on Heung-min Son amidst interest in Saudi Arabia.

If Spurs do let the attacker go, they will have to add significant firepower to their forward line, and they might turn to the exciting Bournemouth attacker.

Over the last few months, it has been widely reported that Tottenham are big fans of Antoine Semenyo and are ready to test the Cherries’ resolve with an offer for the winger.

Just a couple of days ago, journalist Dean Jones revealed that as the Saudi interest in Son grows, Tottenham are turning their gaze towards the Bournemouth man (Transfers From Paradise).

Tottenham have to break the bank to land Antoine Semenyo

GiveMeSport have now backed up Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Antoine Semenyo, claiming that the Lilywhites have identified the 25-year-old as the man to bolster their attack.

However, the outlet says that Spurs’ pursuit of the winger could be scuppered as Bournemouth are determined to keep hold of the player.

MORE SPURS STORIES

After losing Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid, the Cherries do not want to sell any of their other key players ahead of the 2025-25 campaign. The Cherries have thus made it clear to Tottenham and other suitors that it will take an offer of £75m to land Semenyo.

The outlet says that this has massively complicated matters for Spurs, with the club’s hopes of landing the Ghana international now in jeopardy.

Tottenham set to taste defeat in pursuit of another star Premier League forward

This update regarding Semenyo comes just days after the Lilywhites learned that Bryan Mbeumo prefers a move to Man United over Tottenham.

It was previously reported that Spurs were extremely keen on landing Mbeumo on the back of his most productive season in the Premier League so far.

While the Red Devils seem to be ahead of Tottenham in the race for the Cameroon international, the situation may change as Thomas Frank has now emerged as the frontrunner for the Spurs job.

If Tottenham are able to appoint the Dane, they would hope that he can persuade Mbeumo to follow him to North London.
