Tottenham face £40m Lucas Bergvall fight: Chelsea and Aston Villa could return for Spurs star - Spurs Web
Description

A disappointing Premier League campaign – one that could see Tottenham Hotspur relegated – may force them to consider selling their standout performer from last season, Lucas Bergvall.

Lucas Bergvall had a stellar first season at Tottenham Hotspur under Ange Postecoglou, making a clean sweep of three individual awards thanks to his impressive performances throughout the 24/25 campaign.

This term, though, the Swede has struggled to make a similar impact, with injuries a major factor in his drop-off.

Yet, Bergvall has attracted interest from clubs in the Premier League. Both Chelsea and Aston Villa put in a £40 million bid for the midfielder, but Spurs swiftly turned down.

Tottenham Lucas Bergvall transfer interest from Chelsea and Aston Villa

According to Sportbladet, Tottenham are now expected to look to fend off further attempts from clubs to poach their young talent, Bergvall.

However, it is understood that it could become increasingly difficult later in the summer if Spurs were to drop to the Championship.

This is because of the financial repercussions of relegation, which could force a fire sale in north London, and Bergvall is likely to be a target.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Should that happen, Chelsea and Aston Villa are tipped to be at the front of the queue to land the talented Swede, having missed out on him in the winter window.

Spurs face Lucas Bergvall decision amid relegation threat

Spurs will surely not want to lose a player of Bergvall’s talent, given his age and ability on the pitch, any time soon.

The youngster is not just one who shines for his club, but is equally influential for his country, Sweden, which he has helped secure a place in the World Cup.

Should he have a stellar campaign in the World Cup finals, his stock is only going to rise, which could make it even harder for Tottenham to keep him this summer.

Guglielmo Vicario gives ‘yes’ to Tottenham exit after Inter Milan’s £12m offer - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur shot stopper Guglielmo Vicario has reportedly already given a ‘yes’ to Inter Milan amid recent links with the Italian side.

Guglielmo Vicario has shown great commitment to Tottenham Hotspur since arriving at the club three summers ago.

The Italian played a big role in the club’s Europa League triumph, while also showcasing his dedication to the badge by playing through pain in the last couple of games before undergoing hernia surgery.

However, it looks like Vicario’s time at Tottenham could be coming to an end, with Inter Milan keen on securing his services.

It is understood that Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio has already held initial contact with the player’s agent, Gabriele Giuffrida, as they work towards a summer move for the Italian.

Guglielmo Vicario agrees personal terms with Inter Milan

A new report from L’Interista now claims that Guglielmo Vicario has already given his ‘yes’ to a potential move to Inter Milan.

The Serie A leaders are believed to have proposed a four-year contract worth €3.5m per season (£3m), a figure likely to be after tax and higher than his current wages at Tottenham – something that could accelerate the deal.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Inter have already held discussions with both Vicario and his agent, with the former Empoli goalkeeper giving his approval to the move.

The Spurs shot stopper is said to be honoured by the interest from Inter, although he is not actively pushing for a transfer, with the Italian club now expected to open talks with Tottenham.

Spurs face goalkeeping decision as Roberto De Zerbi arrives

Spurs have since secured the services of Roberto De Zerbi as they continue their fight to avoid relegation this season.

But there are question marks over whether De Zerbi will turn to the Spurs number one, who may not ideally fit into his style of play.

The former Brighton boss is known for building from the back, with every player in the defensive line capable of playing passes to beat the opposition press.

Vicario currently struggles in that aspect of his game, often opting to go long rather than play short, with the Premier League’s official channel even controversially poking fun at the Tottenham number one for his long balls.

Given his struggles in that department, Vicario’s departure may allow Tottenham to improve that area of the pitch, moving for a goalkeeper more comfortable playing out from the back.

Tottenham want to solve long-term injury crisis with £34m Evan Ndicka - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham have battled with an injury crisis in the last two seasons, but they are now keen on securing the services of a centre-back with a near-perfect injury record.

Tottenham Hotspur have barely had any luck on the injury front in the last two seasons, with several first-team players sidelined for extended periods.

This campaign, ahead of their Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund, Spurs were without a staggering 13 first-team players for different reasons, ranging from injuries to suspensions and illness.

Undoubtedly, Tottenham’s inability to consistently field a full-strength squad has often impacted their performances, and it could well be a key reason behind their struggles in the Premier League over the past two seasons.

Tottenham target Evan Ndicka amid defensive concerns

According to Corriere dello Sport, Tottenham are now understood to have set their sights on AS Roma centre-back Evan Ndicka.

Ndicka was linked with a move to Spurs in the 2025 winter window when the club’s defensive ranks were decimated under Ange Postecoglou, with Ben Davies, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin all sidelined.

However, while those players have struggled with injuries in the past, Ndicka has remained injury-free this season, featuring in all 35 games for AS Roma.

MORE SPURS STORIES

In fact, across his entire career, the centre-back has missed just fourteen games – a remarkably low figure.

It is now understood that the Ivory Coast international could be on his way out this summer, but Spurs are set to face competition for his signature.

Spurs face competition for Evan Ndicka as £34.3m price emerges

There is currently interest in Ndicka from other Premier League sides, including Manchester United and Liverpool.

Clubs across Europe, including Bayern Munich and Besiktas, are also keen, with the growing interest causing concern in Rome.

Roma are facing pressure due to FFP to offload some of their players, and, at present, given that Ndicka was signed on a free transfer, no other player at the club can generate as much profit.

It is understood that a fee exceeding €40m (£34.3m) could secure his transfer, with Ndicka’s sale easing some of the financial pressure.

Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, former Roma player Antonio Zago addressed Ndicka’s situation, suggesting the defender should remain at the club while acknowledging the possibility of a more experienced option being sought.

He said: “He is young, he should stay and be confirmed, but I do not know if they will look for a more experienced centre-back.”

Tottenham and Arsenal both step up Nicolo Tresoldi transfer: Bargain fee for 17 goal season - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal have now made contact with a 21-year-old forward who has registered 22 goal contributions this season, including three in the Champions League.

Tottenham Hotspur will be desperate to maintain their Premier League status ahead of next season, when a major summer rebuild could be on the cards.

Johan Lange has already hinted that Spurs will have a big summer window following what was a rather lacklustre winter transfer window, where Tottenham failed to strengthen key areas of their squad.

But should the Lilywhites drop to the Championship, they are set to face significant financial setbacks that would limit their spending in the transfer market.

It is understood that discussions with new manager Roberto De Zerbi included talks about future transfers and squad building following the Italian’s signing of a five-year deal, further highlighting Spurs’ determination to strengthen their squad.

Tottenham target Nicolo Tresoldi ahead of a potential summer move

A fresh report from Sky Deutschland now claims that Spurs are interested in securing the services of 21-year-old forward Nicolo Tresoldi from Club Brugge.

The Germany U21 is currently enjoying a stellar campaign, having managed 17 goals and five assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Three of his goals for the Belgian side came in this edition of the UEFA Champions League, where Tresoldi made ten appearances, highlighting his ability to perform on the biggest stage.

It is understood that Spurs have now asked about the forward, although the report does not clarify whether Tottenham made contact with Club Brugge, his agent, or both.

Spurs face competition from Arsenal for Nicolo Tresoldi deal

However, landing a player of his talent will not come easy, and Tottenham are set to face stern competition.

Arsenal are also in the mix for Tresoldi and have also made contact with the forward, like Spurs.

In the Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen are also keen, with the latter considering signing the forward if their striker, Christian Kofane, moves elsewhere after this season.

Tresoldi is expected to be available for a modest fee of €25-30m (£21.5m-£25.8m) – a fee that should be affordable for both Tottenham and Arsenal, who could tussle for the German’s signature.

Five big things we learned from Roberto De Zerbi’s first Tottenham interview - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur fans have finally heard from Roberto De Zerbi for the first time since his appointment, with the Italian laying down early markers that hint at what is to come in north London. We have now highlighted the five things we learned from his first interview.

Tottenham Hotspur heard from their new manager, Roberto De Zerbi, for the first time since he was appointed manager of Tottenham following Igor Tudor’s departure.

The former Brighton man has a huge task on his hands for the remainder of the season, with Spurs fighting relegation and aiming to keep their Premier League status, one they have held for almost half a century.

His first game comes in nine days when Tottenham take on Sunderland away from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, in what will mark a new era under the Italian.

We have now decided to highlight five things we learned from De Zerbi’s first Tottenham interview.

Roberto De Zerbi confirms Tottenham future regardless of relegation

Long before he signed a new contract, it was speculated that the former Brighton manager was set to have a relegation clause included in his deal with Tottenham.

Such a clause would have allowed De Zerbi to walk away from the Spurs job if they were relegated to the Championship. But it has since been confirmed that there was no relegation clause in De Zerbi’s contract, despite him signing a five-year deal.

MORE SPURS STORIES

In his first press conference with the club, De Zerbi confirmed that he will remain in north London regardless of the division Spurs are in.

He said: “I signed a five-year contract because for me, it is a big challenge. I will be the coach of Tottenham next season, no matter what.”

This comes after earlier reports had revealed that De Zerbi planned to stick with Tottenham even in the Championship.

De Zerbi also took time to address the controversy involving comments he made about Mason Greenwood.

The controversy surrounds the Italian’s past defence of Greenwood, who moved to Marseille after he was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault, only for the charges to be dropped later due to the withdrawal of key witnesses.

De Zerbi had previously said at Marseille: “He is a good guy, he paid a heavy price for what happened, a very heavy price. He has found the right environment for him. We have lent him a hand and given him affection.

“He is a little bit introverted but I know him and his family. It saddens me what happened in his life, because I know a totally different person than the one who was described in England.”

It was reported that Tottenham did consider Roberto De Zerbi’s Greenwood comments, but it was not seen as enough reason to go against him.

Addressing fans directly, De Zerbi apologised for his comments. He stated: “I have never wanted to downplay the issue of violence against women, or violence against anyone more broadly.

“In my life, I have always stood up for those who are more vulnerable, more fragile. I have consistently fought and taken a stand to be on the side of those who are most at risk.

“Those of you who know me well will know I am not the type of person who makes compromises to win more games or to win an extra title. I am sorry if this offended anyone’s feelings with this subject matter – I have a daughter, and I am very sensitive to these things, and I always have been.

“I hope that over time, people will get to know me better and will understand that at that moment, I did not mean to take a stance.”

This came following backlash from three different Tottenham supporters’ groups who had expressed their dissatisfaction with the club’s appointment.

Roberto De Zerbi outlines style and player demands

There had been questions about whether De Zerbi’s style would be enough to see Tottenham through this relegation fight.

A couple of pundits were of the impression that a safer pair of hands would have been ideal for Spurs as they battle against the drop.

De Zerbi addressed those claims himself when speaking to the club’s media, opening up on his style and what he will demand of the players.

He said, “I am very happy and very proud to be here. I consider Tottenham one of the most important clubs in the world, so I am very happy. I have a big responsibility, but it is a big challenge for me, and I am looking forward to starting and to working with the players and to winning some games.

“I watched a lot of games, especially in the last period. I know very well the players. I love football, so I watch many, many games per week. I know everything. I know it is a tough moment for Tottenham. It is a difficult moment for everyone at Tottenham. I think we have the right qualities to come out of this moment.

“I believe in the players. I think we have to remember who we are and who the players are, because we have very big players. We have to work on their confidence and qualities. They have to show what they are and what they are good at.”

Speaking on the upcoming games, he added, “I think we have to be focused just on the Sunderland game. I do not want to speak about the schedule or the Brighton game or the Wolverhampton game. Game by game, we have to prepare the players to win the game and to be focused just on the game.

“We have to play with courage. We have to play with the qualities of the players, because if I accept this challenge, it is because I have big confidence in the players and the history of Tottenham football has a very clear style of play.”

Roberto De Zerbi admits no time to fully implement philosophy

De Zerbi is known for his aggressive, front-footed style of football and, given Spurs’ struggles this season both in defence and attack, the former Brighton boss will have to find the right balance.

He also addressed whether he will stick rigidly to his principles or adapt in the coming games, stating that while he loves a front-footed style, there will be little time to fully implement his philosophy.

He said: “I think it is not the right moment to speak about my philosophy for football. I am here now at the end of the season because we have to win the games. In football, the style of play and the tactical disposition are important. There is a mentality and I would like to help the players to reach the best mentality we can show.

“I signed a five-year contract because for me it is a big challenge and I will be the coach of Tottenham next season, no matter what.

“I love keeping the ball, I love possession, I love to create chances to score. But at the same time, I love having 11 defenders when we do not have the ball, because in this time of football, we have to attack with 11 players, with the goalkeeper as well. We have to defend with 11 players when the ball is not for us.

“I think in this moment, we have no time to work too much on more principles, but we have to know what we have to do on the pitch. We have to have a good organisation on the pitch, with the ball and without the ball. We have to consider the qualities of the players.

“We are lucky, I am lucky because I have big players with big talent and my work is to help the players to show their qualities.”

Roberto De Zerbi calls for unity ahead of run-in

While De Zerbi made it a point to address the backlash from Spurs fans, he also made it clear that supporters remain vital to what he is trying to achieve.

Spurs still have seven finals to play in the Premier League, with the first starting against Sunderland. The former Brighton manager stressed that fans remain crucial at this stage of the season, calling for togetherness.

He explained that the players will be looking to put in performances that match the support from the stands. De Zerbi said: “The fans in the last seven games, especially in this moment, are crucial.

“We have to be together. They have to stay close to the players, help the players, and the players have to show the right mentality, the right attitude to give back to the fans’ satisfaction and what they want to see on the pitch. Because after this part of the season, I think we can become great in the future.”

How much Tottenham spent on 2025/26 agent fees compared to Premier League rivals - Spurs Web
Description

How much Tottenham Hotspur have spent on agent fees over the last 12 months, and how the figure compares to their Premier League rivals.

Tottenham’s financial results for the year ending June 2025 were released earlier this week, and there were some concerning signs.

While the club’s total revenue had increased by 7 per cent from the previous year, the Profit from Operations had dropped significantly, while the club’s Loss after Tax had increased to £94.7m.

Tottenham’s cash flow problem is not new, but it is something that the club would be keen to get a handle on.

Tottenham do not spend much on agent fees compared to their rivals

Spurs’ main financial issue comes from their extremely high transfer debt, which is the money they owe to other clubs for the players they have signed.

However, it has now been revealed by journalist Ben Jacobs that despite the North London club’s relatively high transfer spending, they are in the middle of the pack when it comes to agent fees.

Spurs have paid around £21m in commissions to agents from February of 2025 to 2026, which is considerably lower than some of their rivals.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Chelsea have comfortably spent the highest on agent fees during that time, with the Blues paying a whopping £65m to agents over the past 12 months.

You can find the full numbers for each club below:

Spurs’ owners will have to put their hands in their pockets

Reacting to Tottenham’s latest financial statement, Football finance expert Stefan Borsen suggested that the club’s huge debt is not a big issue since it is long-term borrowing at low interest.

However, Borsen has warned that the Spurs owners have no choice but to inject more money into the club, given the cash flow problems at N17.

Tottenham Hotspur have a 'growing' cash problem after hitting a 10-year low, finance expert reveals - Spurs Web
Description

A football finance expert has highlighted the worrying signs about Tottenham’s financial health that he has spotted after the club released their latest round of financial statements.

Tottenham shared their financial statements for the year ending June 30, 2025, and the numbers show mixed results.

The club have seen their revenue increase to £565.3m, which represents a 7 per cent increase, mainly driven by their Europa League success last year.

However, Spurs revealed that their Profit from Operations (EBITDA) decreased to £112.3m (a 22 per cent decrease) while their Loss after Tax increased to £94.7m.

Tottenham have a growing need for cash despite posting record revenue

The Athletic’s Football Finance Writer, Chris Weatherspoon, has now revealed that Tottenham’s 2024-25 accounts show that the club have posted their worst-ever pre-tax profit, and there is growing shortage of cash at Spurs.

He explains that as of June of last year, Spurs held just £20.4m in liquid cash, which is a 10-year low for the Lilywhites and a reduction of nearly £180m over two years.

Weatherspoon says that these numbers show that Tottenham are less self-sustaining than they have been at any time under ENIC’s ownership.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Tottenham continue to be a hugely cash-generative operationally, making £92m last season, which has only been bettered by Arsenal, Liverpool and Man United.

However, the size of the club’s outgoings has left them short of cash and forced them to turn to other sources for funding.

Transfer fees continue to be the main expense for Spurs

Weatherspoon explains that Tottenham’s increase in outlay has primarily been driven by their transfer spending, with the club having a net outlay of £561.6m on transfers since 2019.

At the end of June 2025, the club’s net transfer debt (money already owed to other clubs) stood at £242.8m, while an additional £159m was spent on players last summer.

A huge offer from Saudi Arabia has emerged involving Radu Dragusin, with new details shedding light on just how close a major move came during the winter window.

Overall, the winter transfer window was a disappointing one for Tottenham Hotspur, who failed to strengthen their squad as many fans would have liked.

Spurs managed just two signings, Conor Gallagher and Souza, who added more depth to the midfield and full-back positions, respectively.

In terms of outgoings, Europa League goalscorer Brennan Johnson departed for £35 million to Crystal Palace, weakening their firepower on the wings without securing any reinforcement.

Tottenham Radu Dragusin Saudi transfer offer details

Radu Dragusin’s agent has now revealed that his client could well have been heading out in the winter, given the lucrative offer received from Saudi Arabia.

During the winter window, Dragusin was subject to much transfer speculation, with reports linking him to a move to Italy. However, no such move materialised, forcing the centre-back to remain in north London.

Romanian outlet iAM Sport reports that the Tottenham player’s representative, Florin Manea, has revealed a major offer from Saudi Arabia, alongside interest from Germany.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Speaking on the iAM Stucan podcast, Manea outlined the scale of the proposal and how it was turned down. He said, “You want me to tell you something? We refused €50m over five years for Radu. €10m per year.”

The agent then explained that the offer came from Saudi Arabia and far exceeded Dragusin’s current earnings at Tottenham, making clear the financial scale involved:

“Someone from Saudi Arabia called us and said they would give us €10m net per year to go there. We did not even consider it.”

He also stressed how negotiations could have escalated significantly, including the potential commission involved.

He added: “€10m per year? Tell me how many would refuse that. It could have gone up to €15m, even €20m per year. It could have reached €100m over five years. I would have taken a commission of €20-30m. But we were not interested.”

Spurs Radu Dragusin attracts interest from Germany

As it stands, the Romanian centre-back currently earns £4,420,000 per year at Spurs, and having turned down a lucrative offer from the Middle East, it is clear Dragusin believes he still has plenty to offer in Europe.

It is also a clear indication that the centre-back is not motivated solely by money.

Still speaking on the winter window, Radu Dragusin’s agent also confirmed that the defender attracted interest from the Bundesliga, indicating that options in Europe remain open.

According to Florin Manea, RB Leipzig made an approach, and while no deal materialised, the relationship remains active. Speaking on the iAM Stucan podcast, he continued: “There was an offer for him in the winter from Leipzig. Now we will see if they want to try again or not.”

'Tottenham could be the biggest club in the world' - David Bentley makes bold Spurs relegation claim - Spurs Web
Description

Former Tottenham Hotspur player David Bentley has made a bold claim about the club’s global appeal and long-term potential amid their ongoing relegation fight.

The focus for Tottenham Hotspur for the remainder of the Premier League season is to avoid relegation, with seven games left.

Roberto De Zerbi has been brought in to help accomplish that, but should he fail, he is expected to oversee a rebuild even in the Championship after having signed a five-year deal.

Spurs, however, would rather they remain in the English top flight, given the financial repercussions they will face should they go down to the English second division.

Tottenham’s David Bentley makes bold claim on Spurs potential

For a club that only just won the Europa League last term and previously competed for European places, the drop-off is rather disappointing.

Former Tottenham winger David Bentley has now delivered a rather intriguing verdict on Spurs’ situation, stating that no one in football will want to see Spurs go down.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Speaking about Tottenham’s appeal and the wider impact of relegation, Bentley stressed the club’s potential stature in the game and why their drop would not be welcomed.

He said on Sky Sports: “They could be the biggest club in the world, and to think of that potential being relegated and sitting in the Championship, not only financially but emotionally, I think for everyone in football…

“I do not think there is anyone in football that wants to see Tottenham go down and not be in the Premier League. I think everybody loves watching Tottenham even if you are a neutral.”

David Bentley’s relegation view disputed by rivals

Bentley’s comments are far from the case, given the different rivals Tottenham have in the Premier League.

The likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and West Ham United, with whom Spurs are in a relegation battle, will definitely want to see the back of Tottenham this season.

Other relegation rivals like Nottingham Forest and Leeds United will not mind seeing Spurs go down if it means their own club will be safe.

When pressed further on the suggestion that many would want Tottenham to go down, Bentley doubled down on his stance, insisting on the club’s broad appeal.

He added, “Do not say that… everybody loves Tottenham. Who does not like Spursy, come on.”

Roberto De Zerbi has just seven games to fix five desperate Tottenham problems

Roberto De Zerbi has just seven games to fix five desperate Tottenham problems - Spurs Web
Description

Roberto De Zerbi has a massive task ahead of him at Tottenham Hotspur and there are five issues in particular which need to be resolved.

The Tottenham supporters must be brought back on board

Tottenham Hotspur fans were right behind their team against Nottingham Forest. In fact, the pre-match scenes outside the stadium were not dissimilar from the Europa League celebrations in May last year.

However, Spurs failed to deliver on the pitch, leading to a very empty Tottenham Hotspur Stadium by the time the match had ended.

Roberto De Zerbi needs to get the Tottenham supporters believing again, because without any momentum from the stands, his team could struggle to get going.

Spurs have to defend better

Fair play to Igor Tudor for actually getting Tottenham to play some half-decent attacking football, but his team could not defend to save their lives.

Spurs shipped three goals at home to Nottingham Forest, five at Atletico Madrid and four against Arsenal.

MORE SPURS STORIES

De Zerbi has to figure out a way to make his side more secure at the back, otherwise it will not even matter how good the attack becomes.

Roberto De Zerbi has to find a formation that works for Tottenham

One of Tudor’s biggest problems was that he could not find a system which functioned well with the players at his disposal.

From three at the back to a strike partnership up front, Tottenham struggled to click under the Croat boss.

The new manager is known to play with a 4-2-3-2 formation, but does this meet the needs of his squad? This is something he will have to figure out.

Micky van de Ven needs to be back at his best

If one Spurs player had to be described as broken, surely it would be Micky van de Ven after his abysmal performances under Tudor.

The Dutchman’s attitude was not always what it should be when Thomas Frank was in charge, but he almost seemed to give up completely with Tudor as his manager.

However, van de Ven is still a top class talent on his day and if De Zerbi can get him firing again, Tottenham have a good chance of avoiding relegation from the Premier League.

Roberto De Zerbi must find a player to cover the Tottenham right wing

If Mohammed Kudus is back in action before Tottenham take on Sunderland, that will be a massive boost.

Alternatively, if this is not the case, De Zerbi needs to identify a member of his new squad who is able to deliver on the right side of attack.
