New Name Emerges To Replace Thomas Frank At Tottenham - GiveMeSport
Description

There is a new name at the top of the list to replace Thomas Frank as Tottenham head coach - Roberto De Zerbi.

Frank has been under increasing pressure for much of the 2025/26 campaign since replacing Ange Postecoglou at the helm. Much like his predecessor, performances in Europe have served to ease that pressure, with Postecoglou having won the UEFA Europa League last season and Frank overseeing Spurs finishing fourth in the UEFA Champions League league phase table so far.

But all the while domestic performances continue as they are - Spurs are 14th in the table and nine points clear of the relegation zone - the heat will be on the Dane.

Tottenham Fans Demand Better From Thomas Frank

Tottenham have been booed off the pitch countless times this season, with diminished attendances at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for some games and a planned walkout due to take place during the Manchester City game that was halted somewhat by Spurs' comeback from 2-0 down in the second half.

Frank is not entirely to blame for everything going wrong in N17 - Spurs had finished 17th under Postecoglou last season don't forget - but the head coach is always the one in the firing line.

Internal talks were held at the north London club following the defeat to West Ham United about the Dane's position at the club, with plenty of talk that he would be sacked.

Tottenham In The Champions League Are A Different Beast

However, an impressive win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League eased the pressure, with victory over Eintracht Frankfurt doing similar after an equally disappointing Premier League draw with Burnley.

For some time Spurs legend Robbie Keane has been amongst the frontrunners to take over should Frank be sacked with the bookmakers, with Xavi, former manager Mauricio Pochettino and Xabi Alonso high on the shortlist too.

Now, De Zerbi has moved in front of all of them to the head of the queue, and is in fact odds-on to be the next Spurs manager with Willilam Hill at 4/5.

Marseille were eliminated from the Champions League in extraordinary circumstances last week when goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin scored an injury-time goal for Benfica against nine-man Real Madrid to drop the French side down to 25th in the standings.

De Zerbi Could Be Sacked By Marseille

And, according to a report from journalist Fabrice Hawkins, De Zerbi is in "serious danger" as a result. That would open the door further for Tottenham to make a move, although Manchester United have also been linked with the former Brighton boss.

Speaking last week, De Zerbi said cryptically: "Marseille is the ideal place for me, without knowing if I’m the ideal coach for Marseille.”

Tottenham And Celtic Hit With Andy Robertson Transfer Setback

Tottenham And Celtic Suffer Transfer Setback With Elite Star Set For New Deal - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham came close to completing a deal for Andy Robertson in the January transfer window, but could not get a deal over the line due to Liverpool's inability to recall Kostas Tsimikas from his loan deal with Roma.

Spurs were expected to return to tie up a free transfer for Robertson in the summer - with his contract at Anfield expiring at the end of the 2025/26 season - but knew they would face competition from others for his signature.

Celtic have also been linked with a summer move to bring the 31-year-old home - he started his career with the Bhoys as a youth player although never went on to be part of the first team, eventually moving to Queens Park.

Tottenham Made Late Call To Sign Andy Robertson

Spurs even tried to complete a deal late in the January transfer window, making a late call to Liverpool to see if there was any way they would be wiling to let the Scot leave, but to no avail.

And they could not be hit with a setback when it comes to signing the left-back, whom journalist Henry Winter described as "elite", in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool have maintained that they would not stand in Robertson's way if he wanted to leave the club, given everything he has achieved with them in a nine-year career and that will still be the case. But Spurs - and Celtic's - job of securing a free transfer may get a bit more difficult in the summer after Liverpool performed something of a u-turn on the left-back.

Liverpool Make U-Turn On Robertson's Future

According to Teamtalk, the Reds are weighing up the idea of offering Robertson a new contract at Anfield.

That is not necessarily to keep him at the club for the long-term, given he is no longer a guaranteed starter, but more to safeguard the club in the summer. A new contract would mean Liverpool could demand a transfer fee for Robertson, rather than losing him on a free.

Tottenham were reportedly willing to pay £5million to sign Robertson, who has been described as a 'club legend' by the Athletic's Liverpool reporter Andy Jones, in January and may have to fork out that kind of figure again in the summer if the Scottish international pens a new deal with the Reds.

Spurs had initially outlined signing him for free in the summer before the prospect of a £5million January deal arose.

'Here We Go' - Fabrizio Romano Issues Tottenham Transfer Update as Deal Agreed - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have just agreed a deal with Brazilian club Bahia to sell Alejo Veliz on a permanent deal, according to GIVEMESPORT senior reporter Fabrizio Romano.

It was a relatively quiet January transfer window at Spurs, with Brennan Johnson leaving the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Conor Gallagher and Souza coming in the other way.

While the UK transfer window closed on Monday evening, the Brazilian window remains open until March 3, which allows clubs to agree transfers like this one for Veliz from European teams.

The young Argentine is currently on loan at Rosario Central, but will be changing clubs permanently in 2026 after the latest agreement.

Veliz Due to Have Medical in June

According to Romano, posting on X on Thursday afternoon, Tottenham have reached an agreement with Bahia worth £7.8m, plus add-ons, for Veliz after a verbal agreement was reached with director Cadu Santoro on Thursday.

The move to Brazil will happen in the summer once his season-long loan spell with Argentine club Rosario Central comes to an end, as the attacker made it clear he wanted to stay at the club where he began his career until the summer.

Interestingly, Bahia are part of the City Group having become an addition to its family of clubs in 2023, alongside Manchester City, Girona and New York City among others.

Spurs have actually made a loss on Veliz with the agreed deal with Bahia, having signed him for £13m back in 2023 from Rosario, when he joined on the same day as Micky van de Ven.

Veliz Transfer Didn't Work Out for Tottenham

Veliz arrived in north London just weeks before Harry Kane left for Bayern Munich, bringing with him an impressive record for Rosario Central.

But if there were any dreams he could be Kane's long-term replacement at Spurs, those were quickly eradicated as he struggled to make an impact across the other side of the world.

The Argentine leaves the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium having only made eight appearances in total, with his only goal coming in a win against Brighton and Hove Albion in December 2023.

The majority of Veliz's time at the club was actually spent on loan, as he failed to get minutes under former boss Ange Postecoglou.

Prior to rejoining Rosario on loan, the striker had loan spells with Sevilla and Espanyol in La Liga, scoring six goals in 35 outings combined for both clubs.

Tottenham Transfer Plan Could Point To Thomas Frank Sack Decision

Tottenham Transfer Plan Could Point To Thomas Frank Sack Decision - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have come out of the January transfer window with a squad that looks weaker than the one they went into it with.

And Thomas Frank agrees.

Speaking last week, the Spurs head coach was asked about the possibility of Spurs signing no one else before the transfer window closed and whether the Tottenham squad was in fact weaker now than before the winter window opened.

"I think that's fair," he admitted. "I think we lost, I can't remember, six or seven players inside three weeks in January. That's crazy, and some of them extremely unlucky, definitely Lucas [Bergvall] and Ben [Davies] with clear contact injuries. Then there was, I can't remember all of them, but there were definitely too many. So yeah, of course it's weaker than we started the first of January."

Tottenham Have 14 Players Out Injured

As Frank admits there, it is not all down to transfers, with a huge number of injuries playing their part - as they did under Ange Postecoglou last season.

But selling last season's top scorer in Brennan Johnson, and bringing in only Conor Gallagher - a very astute signing it must be said - and two teenagers in Souza and James Wilson - does not make for a good transfer window.

Spurs have six players on the long-term injured list, three players on the short-term list who should be back by the end of the month and five players who could be doubts for the weekend trip to Manchester United.

Cristian Romero spoke out on the situation the club finds itself in in a thinly-veiled dig at the Tottenham hierarchy just minutes after the transfer window closed.

Speaking about being substituted at half-time in the draw with Manchester City, he wrote on Instagram: "I wanted to be available to help them even though I wasn’t feeling well, especially since we only had 11 players available - unbelievable but true and disgraceful. We’ll keep showing up and taking responsibility to turn this around, working hard and staying together."

The Tottenham Hierarchy Have Questions To Answer

Frank has been under pressure for much of the campaign, with Tottenham 14th in the Premier League table, nine points clear of the relegation zone. He has been saved from ultimate pressure by Spurs' UEFA Champions League form, form which saw them end the league phase fourth and qualifying directly for the last 16.

The comeback draw with City on Sunday summed up recent performances - with nothing to lose, the original plan was ditched and Spurs went for it and got a deserved point in the end.

There has been so much talk of Frank losing his job at Spurs, and while the blame should not be solely placed at his door, he is culpable for the side's Premier League form, despite all the injuries.

The problem always seemed to be that backing him in the transfer window and then sacking him would be counter-productive, with a new man perhaps not wanting the players who had been signed.

Has A Decision Already Been Made About Sacking Thomas Frank?

Spurs' lack of transfer activity in not backing the manager - whether that was through choice or circumstance - could point to a decision being made to part ways with Frank, either in the short-term or at the end of the season and start afresh.

Gallagher can be seen as a club signing, as well as a Frank signing, given Postecoglou wanted him last year and Mauricio Pochettino handed him the captain's armband at Chelsea. He is likely to fit into any manager's thought process.

Teenagers coming on board will also be seen as club signings, given they are for the academy and the future of the club.

It has felt like Frank has been on borrowed time in N17 for quite a while and the head coach may feel it himself now the January transfer window has closed.

Billionaire Consortiums Combining for £1bn Deal to Buy Daniel Levy's Tottenham Stake

Billionaire Consortiums Combining for £1bn Deal to Buy Daniel Levy's Tottenham Stake - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are being eyed for a spectacular takeover, with two consortiums planning to join forces for a deal worth billions of pounds, according to The Sun.

Spurs have had a mixed campaign on the pitch so far this season, currently sitting in 14th place in the Premier League table and having already been eliminated from the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, but they automatically qualified for the Last 16 of the Champions League after finishing fourth in the League Phase of the tournament.

The club have seen major changes behind the scenes over the last 12 months, with long-time executive chairman Daniel Levy departing the club after the summer window, while Fabio Paratici's return was short-lived as he returned to Italy with Fiorentina this month. Now, more changes are being mooted for 2026.

Billionaire Consortiums Planning Bid for Levy's Stake

It was reported back in September that an American consortium, led by former DJ Brooklyn Earick, was planning a £4.5bn buyout of the north London club following Levy's departure. However, after several meetings with Douglas Armstrong, the legal counsel of the Lewis family, a deal never materialised.

That was after a Hong Kong based consortium, led by billionaire businessman Ng Wing-Fai, had signalled their interest by making a bid for the club, which was ultimately turned down by ENI and the Lewis family.

Now, it has emerged that both consortia are planning to come together and make a play for Levy's 29.9% stake in the club. Under Takeover Panel rules, after withdrawing their separate bids, both Earick and Wing-Fai are prevented from “making a bid or taking other steps towards a takeover” for six months, which would take them to March 6th 2026.

That would not prevent the parties from coming together to buy Levy's stake, or making a play for it individually should they so wish.

It's understood that Levy, who was forced out of the club after 25 years by the Lewis family, values his shares at £1bn, which would value the club at around £3.3bn - the exact value of the previous Wing-Fai takeover bid.

Wing-Fai Wants Relegation Clause

It's understood that Wing-Fai is willing to meet Levy's asking price, however, he would like to include a 'relegation clause' in the deal, which would see the value of any agreement reduced should they be relegated to the Championship, considering they are currently 14th and nine points above the relegation zone.

Representatives of ENIC have indicated they are not aware of any potential agreement between Levy and the possible buyers. It's also unclear what their intentions are over a deal for Levy's stake, considering the Lewis family would still have control of the boardroom and club as majority owners.

Levy's relationship with the club was brought to a sour end in September, and this could be an opportunity for him to gain some revenge on the owners and walk away with a huge sum of cash in his back pocket in the process.

Cristian Romero Hits Out at Tottenham Board With ‘Disgraceful’ Dig

‘Disgraceful’ - Cristian Romero Lashes Out With Tottenham Transfer Dig Just After Window Closes - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham captain Cristian Romero has issued a rallying statement following Thomas Frank's side's 2-2 draw against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, while also making a dig at the club's lack of transfer activity. A valiant performance saw the Lilywhites come from a two-goal deficit to pick up a crucial point in their bid to climb up the Premier League table.

Still, Romero admitted there’s work to do to mend bridges with a frustrated fanbase, while questioning the lack of reinforcements during the January window. As it stands, Spurs sit 14th in the table - only three places better than their relegation-threatened finish under Ange Postecoglou last term - which hardly screams progress.

The Argentine defender accepted his share of responsibility for the team’s struggles, but also shifted some of the spotlight onto ENIC. After signalling real ambition in the summer, the ownership group appear to have stood still since, failing to build on their promises of a new era for the Europa League holders and keeping their hands firmly in their pockets throughout January.

Romero Hits Out at Spurs Board As January Transfer Window Shuts

After explaining why he was substituted off at the weekend, Romero appeared to aim a thinly veiled jab at ENIC’s lack of urgency in the transfer market, with Tottenham still looking thin on the ground when it comes to squad depth. He wrote on Instagram (see the full statement below): "Great effort from all my teammates yesterday, they were incredible.

"I wanted to be available to help them even though I wasn’t feeling well, especially since we only had 11 players available - unbelievable but true and disgraceful. We’ll keep showing up and taking responsibility to turn this around, working hard and staying together. All that’s left is to thank all of you for being there and for always supporting us, the fans."

Thomas Frank's Threadbare Squad

Against Man City, Tottenham boss Thomas Frank could name only four senior outfield players on the bench. Mathys Tel, Wilson Odobert, and Pape Matar Sarr all came on, along with 17-year-old defender Jun’ai Byfield, highlighting just how thin the former Brentford manager’s resources are as he looks to make his mark in north London.

Dominic Solanke’s return to the starting lineup helped ease the selection headache, and he made it count by scoring twice. But the likes of James Maddison, Mohammed Kudus, and Micky van de Ven remain sidelined - as do Pedro Porro, Richarlison, and several others - leaving Frank with a threadbare squad to cut through outside noise of his managerial future and see out the rest of the campaign.

Tottenham Make Late Approach to Sign Brazilian Forward on Deadline Day

Description

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly made an enquiry over possibly signing Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr teammate Angelo during the final days of the January transfer window, per Diario AS' Eduardo Burgos.

Angelo joined the Saudi Pro League giants from Chelsea in the summer of 2024 after failing to make a single appearance for Spurs' London rivals. But the Brazilian midfielder has impressed at Al-Nassr, featuring 27 times across competitions this season and registering four goals and six assists.

Ronaldo would likely have been infuriated if his club had sold the 21-year-old, given that he has effectively gone on strike. The Portuguese forward isn't happy with the management of the Saudi giants and feels financial backing is supporting their main rivals.

Tottenham Eye Al-Nassr's Angelo

It's claimed that Al-Nassr's stance on parting with Angelo was that he won't be leaving in the January transfer window but a potential summer could be a possibility. There's no word on how much he'd likely cost, but it would likely be significantly more than the £19m they paid Chelsea.

Spurs might be enticed by the Brazilian's versatility as he can play various roles, including in his preferred midfield position. He has been used out on the wing, as a number 10, and even in defensive midfield.

Angelo fits the club's current transfer strategy of signing young players with huge potential and who might be considered for a rotational role in Thomas Frank's side. The Lilywhites strengthened their midfield earlier this month when they signed Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid.

Gallagher has come straight into Frank's team but another midfielder might have been on the agenda to help Spurs bounce back from a difficult start during their new manager's reign. But a new winger has also been under consideration following Brennan Johnson's departure to Crystal Palace.

Tottenham Hotspur have won the battle of the North Londoners with Arsenal to sign Hearts striker James Wilson, per Fabrizio Romano.

Wilson emerged as a target for both North London rivals, and Hearts even acknowledged interest from the two clubs. He has caught the eye in Scotland, albeit without appearing regularly for the senior team, who occupy top spot in the Scottish Premiership.

The young Scot might have to prove he warrants a permanent switch to the English capital, given he is set to arrive on loan with an option to buy. If he were to convince the Lilywhites to take up that option, he'd likely be competing with Dominic Solanke for the number nine role for years to come.

Spurs Beat Arsenal To James Wilson

Fabrizio Romano confirmed Spurs had sealed a deal for Wilson when he wrote on X:

"James Wilson to Tottenham, here we go! Deal in place for Scottish 18 year old striker to join #THFC project. Arsenal were offering a trial while Spurs offer loan deal with buy option clause now agreed with Hearts. Medical happening now with formal steps next."

Wilson is likely to be used in Spurs' U21 team as he continues to develop, but he is expected to be a huge talent in the future. Should he permanently join the Lilywhites, he'd become the latest youth star signed with plenty of potential.

Most of Wilson's senior appearances this season have come in the Scottish League Cup, where he's managed two goals in four appearances. He is regarded as the most exciting prospect in Scottish football and shone in the Scottish Lowland League with the youth team when he bagged 14 goals and six assists in 26 games.

Wilson has also been superb on international duty with Scotland's U21s, finding the back of the net four times in five caps. He is a number nine who can also play out wide and possesses clinical finishing.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have beaten Arsenal in the race to sign Hearts youngster James Wilson, with the 18-year-old set to travel to London to put pen to paper on a loan deal with Spurs, according to Daily Record.

Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on deadline day that Arsenal had opened talks to sign Wilson in a late loan move. Arsenal were working on a deal for the young star, before Tottenham swooped in to begin talks ahead of a potential hijack.

Both sides were hoping to complete a similar agreement, bringing the youngster on loan for the remainder of the season, giving them an opportunity to take a closer look at him. Neither Arsenal nor Tottenham were likely to bring Wilson into the first team fold, and it seems the latter have now stormed ahead in the race for his signature.

Tottenham Complete Arsenal Hijack

According to a report from the Daily Record, Tottenham have completed a move to sign Hearts striker Wilson, with the Daily Record describing it as a 'shock' deal due to beating their north London rivals Arsenal in the race for his signature. Spurs have agreed to stump up a significant loan fee, while also negotiating a future payment if they decide to sign him on a permanent deal in the summer.

Spurs' willingness to discuss a possible future fee for the youngster has given them an advantage in the race, with Wilson set to travel to north London to complete a move to Thomas Frank's side.

Wilson has spent the majority of the campaign watching on from the sidelines, which is no surprise considering how well Hearts are doing at the moment, leading the Scottish Premiership ahead of Glasgow giants Rangers and Celtic.

Tottenham's Stance on Deadline Day Deal for Maghnes Akliouche Now Confirmed

Tottenham's Stance on Deadline Day Deal for Maghnes Akliouche Now Confirmed - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur will not be signing Maghnes Akliouche on Deadline Day, according to journalist Tom Barclay.

Spurs were linked with the Monaco forward heading into the final day of the January transfer window, however it appears nothing will happen before tonight's 7pm cutoff.

No Deal for Magnes Akliouche

GIVEMESPORT's Senior Football Correspondent Ben Jacobs mentioned Akliouche as a possible late addition at Tottenham last week, and the 23-year-old has been speculated as a signing once again after Alasdair Gold hinted at a left-field swoop on Deadline Day.

However, it appears that swoop won't be for Akliouche, with Barclay ruling out a last-minute deal for the attacking midfielder, despite confirming that he was a target for Thomas Frank's side back in the summer. He said on X:

"Understand Tottenham will not be signing Maghnes Akliouche. From what I'm led to believe, he was viewed as a secondary No10 option to Xavi Simons in the summer. Yes, Spurs have been playing with two No10s of late but I'm told they won't be signing MA."

Akliouche has been enjoying a productive season for Monaco, with four goals and five assists across all competitions - including two set-ups in the Champions League. The French side find themselves in the Playoff phase after finishing 21st in the League phase.

Tottenham Could Still do Business

The consensus appears to be that Tottenham are in the market for last-minute additions. They have reportedly been attempting to hijack Arsenal's deal for Hearts striker James Wilson, while former Aston Villa star Jhon Duran has been named as a potential replacement for Juventus target Randal Kolo Muani.

And speaking to the Market Madness podcast, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Spurs have been 'exploring opportunities' over the last 24 hours:

"There could be some possibility. Spurs made some calls in the last 24 hours, exploring opportunities, exploring chances, and I think there is still some space and time to see something happening. But it is never that easy in the January transfer window. There is still something they are trying to do but it's not guaranteed, because it’s about opportunities, not top, top targets at this stage of the market."

It won't be Akliouche, but we could see someone else arrive at Tottenham before the window slams shut.
