Danny Murphy says Tottenham star has been bad all season despite 9.4/10 masterclass - Spurs Web
Description

Danny Murphy has made a controversial claim about one Tottenham Hotspur starter amid recent struggles on the pitch.

Tottenham Hotspur supporters looked on with fascination when Guglielmo Vicario first joined the club. The Italian shot-stopper played the sweeper-keeper role so well, and many were happy to have signed him over David Raya, who was linked with Spurs before joining Arsenal.

However, Vicario began to display some major weaknesses in his game as time went on. Defending set pieces has been one of the 29-year-old’s biggest issues, which has seen other clubs target him specifically.

Vicario has suffered some particularly low moments this season, especially his recent error, which single-handedly cost Tottenham a goal against Fulham.

Danny Murphy calls on Thomas Frank to drop Guglielmo Vicario at Tottenham

It seems ex-Tottenham man Danny Murphy is not keen on Vicario, because he has told Thomas Frank to drop his first-choice goalkeeper.

Murphy has admitted that Vicario is good at making saves, but there are areas of his game which concern the retired midfielder.

He told talkSPORT: “Very few players have been through their career without having a spell where they’ve had a bit of stick. You’ve got to show some resilience.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“The fact is with Vicario, it wasn’t one bad game. He’s been bad all season. He’s been poor and a manager should take responsibility. He should have taken him out of the firing line a month ago. He can’t come for a cross. He’s nervous as a kitten with his feet.

“No wonder the fans are edgy with him. He’s a decent shot stopper, but he should be as a goalie. But he should have been pulled out of the firing line six weeks back because he’s been poor, bang average.

“So he’s got to take some responsibility for that, but he shouldn’t have dug the fans out because he’s given himself a big amount to climb.”

Murphy has not been fair to Vicario

Although Murphy has made some good points about Vicario, claiming he has been bad all season is simply not true.

The Italy international has produced some good performances. In fact, it was thanks to him alone that Tottenham got a draw against Monaco in the Champions League.

Since the start of the season, Vicario has 11 performances rated over 7/10 on Fotmob, including a 9.4/10 against Monaco, 8.5 against Copenhagen, and 8.9 against Chelsea.

There are definitely concerns surrounding Vicario and for good reason, but Antonin Kinsky did not play well against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup. Spurs do not have strong alternatives and Murphy has neglected to bring this up.

Tottenham Hotspur have shown interest in a highly rated young centre-back, but Arsenal and Liverpool are set to provide them with some competition.

Tottenham Hotspur made the decision to sign two new centre-backs in the summer, one of whom was Kota Takai.

The 21-year-old is yet to make a start for Spurs due to his injury struggles, but he did feature for the under-21s team in a friendly against Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday afternoon.

It seems Tottenham could look to sign another young central defender, with the club reportedly interested in Cardiff City’s Dylan Lawlor.

Tottenham must fight off other Premier League clubs to sign Dylan Lawlor

According to Team Talk, Tottenham are not the only team interested in Lawlor. In fact, most clubs in the Premier League are keeping tabs on the 19-year-old.

Spurs are known to admire the player along with Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle. However, there is about to be even more competition to secure his signature because Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have now entered the frame for Lawlor.

There is also interest from teams in the Bundesliga, with Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig all scouting the teenager.

MORE SPURS STORIES

These clubs have been hugely impressed with Lawlor’s maturity, even though he is still fairly inexperienced at Cardiff. This has not stopped him from being called up to the Welsh national team, where his performances have particularly stood out.

Tottenham must provide all their defenders with opportunities

Spurs already have a young defender in Takai, while Luka Vuskovic and Ashley Phillips are due to return at the end of the season.

There are also more senior options in Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Kevin Danso and Radu Dragusin could soon become available too.

It is important for Tottenham not to sign so many players in one position that the development of those already at the club is stunted. Lawlor may be rated highly, but Spurs might want to offload at least one of their current defenders before attempting to bring him to North London.

Description

Reports have now revealed where Tottenham stand in the race to land AFC Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo in the January transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur remain in the race to sign AFC Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, although they face stiff competition from other Premier League clubs.

Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City also have the wide man on their shortlist, and with a clause in his contract, any side willing to put £65 million down is expected to land the Ghana international.

Reports from earlier this week stated that Tottenham are intensifying their efforts to sign Semenyo as the January transfer window edges closer.

Spurs fans, on the other hand, have expressed concern given the level of competition for Semenyo’s signature, with many supporters believing that the 25-year-old may decide against Tottenham.

Liverpool and Man City lead Antoine Semenyo race over Tottenham

Football Insider has now revealed the current favourites to land Semenyo in the winter window when his clause is set to become active.

According to the publication, while Tottenham remain keen on the forward, it is believed that Liverpool and Manchester City are the firm frontrunners to sign the winger in January.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It is understood that the two clubs are the ones most prepared to trigger Semenyo’s £65 million release clause.

Manchester United have also been credited with interest, but it is believed that City and Liverpool are the ones better placed to secure a deal for Semenyo.

Why Spurs will struggle to sign Antoine Semenyo in January

Tottenham’s chances to sign Semenyo will be greatly improved if both City and Liverpool fail to place a bid for the 25-year-old in January.

At the moment, Man City and Liverpool are a more attractive option for the Ghana international, and if Semenyo is forced to choose between Tottenham and one of the two, the expectation is that he will go against Frank’s side.

Spurs have seen this unfold before, with Eberechi Eze opting for Arsenal even after Tottenham had agreed terms with Crystal Palace.

Even placing a bid first may not shift the situation for Spurs, because if City or Liverpool meet his clause within the two-week activation period, then the power shifts away from Tottenham instantly.

Description

Thomas Frank has offered an update on his Tottenham squad ahead of the Brentford match, with a clearer picture now emerging on who is edging back towards involvement this month.

Thomas Frank will be hoping to get Tottenham Hotspur back to winning ways following their poor run of form in recent weeks.

Spurs are winless in their last five league outings and are in danger of slipping further down the table, as five points separate them from seventeenth-placed Leeds United.

A home game against Brentford at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is up next for Frank, who will be desperate to get one over his former side and push Spurs back into the top half of the league table, while also ending a run of no league wins since October.

Coming into this encounter, the Tottenham boss has been handed a positive update regarding the fitness of two of his injured players.

It was reported earlier this week that both Radu Dragusin and Kota Takai took positive steps in their recovery as the pair featured in a behind-closed-doors friendly for Spurs Under-21s against Dagenham and Redbridge at Hotspur Way.

However, while the pair edge closer to full fitness, a few other players remain sidelined, with Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke still out, but there is an expectation that they could return before the year ends.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Meanwhile, James Maddison is out for the rest of the season, while Yves Bissouma does not yet have a return date pencilled in for him.

Speaking ahead of the league fixture with Brentford, Thomas Frank has now provided an injury update on his Tottenham squad. He told the official Spurs media team: “Everyone that was available for Newcastle should be ready for Brentford.”

On whether there was a fresh update on Dominic Solanke and Kulusevski, he added: “No. When they are ready to be close to joining the squad, then I will provide an update.”

Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on an exciting young attacker, and his club have opened the door to a January sale.

It has been widely claimed that Spurs are expected to prioritise strengthening their attack in January, with a wide player being top of their agenda.

According to reports, Tottenham want to add established stars to their squad to improve their starting eleven in January, and they are willing to spend big to do that.

However, it has now emerged that the Lilywhites are also closely watching the performances of a Nigerian youngster who is turning a lot of heads in Slovenia.

Tottenham battling two European clubs for Sani Suleiman

According to a report in Hospodarske Noviny (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur are fans of AS Trencin winger Sani Suleiman, who is impressing a lot of scouts around Europe.

The 19-year-old, who joined the Slovakian side in July 2024, has played 38 matches so far, scoring five goals and contributing five assists.

Suleiman’s displays have caught the eye of several European sides, with Tottenham’s main competition coming from Rangers and Bayer Leverkusen.

The outlet adds that Trencin could make a decent profit if they cash in on the Nigerian Under-20 international in January.

Interestingly, the outlet also spoke to the Slovenian club’s sporting director, Andrej Zacik, who confirmed that Suleiman is attracting a lot of interest from the continent.

While he refused to name the interested clubs, he opened the door to a January sale of the winger.

Zacik told the publication about the Spurs target: “A lot of clubs are watching Sani. So, it’s not just noise or speculation. There is real interest. However, it’s difficult to determine exactly how many clubs there are.

“Some teams are just probing him for now, others are already going a little further. In addition, there are also teams that are communicating directly with the player’s agent. However, there is definitely interest.”

When asked if Suleiman could be sold in January, the Trencin director responded: “It can happen.”

Tottenham face roadblock in pursuit of £100m midfielder, but they have alternatives - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have made advances towards one of the most exciting young talents across the Premier League, but they face one major roadblock.

It has been reported over recent weeks that Tottenham want to make a statement signing in January to signal their ambition.

Several midfielders with Premier League experience have been mooted as targets for Spurs, but it has now emerged that the Lilywhites may turn to a young rising star.

A few days ago, CaughtOffside claimed Tottenham may pounce on Brighton’s Carlos Baleba in January, who is no longer a priority for Man United as he was in the summer.

Tottenham have one stumbling block in Carlos Baleba pursuit

TEAMtalk have now confirmed that Man United’s interest in the 21-year-old has cooled, thus opening the door for Spurs to complete a sensational swoop.

The report asserts that Tottenham Hotspur are exploring midfield options, and they have already expressed an interest in Baleba.

However, it is revealed that Brighton will demand £100m to let the Cameroon international leave, and the Lilywhites are unlikely to be willing to pay that fee.

MORE SPURS STORIES

While Tottenham are expected to have plenty of money to spend over the next two transfer windows, Baleba is not expected to arrive at N17 unless Seagull’s asking price comes down.

Spurs have identified alternatives to Baleba

TEAMtalk say that Spurs admire Adam Wharton a lot and view him as ‘an ideal signing’, but there is growing acceptance at the North London club that a deal for the Crystal Palace star may be out of their reach.

Spurs are also said to be monitoring Bournemouth’s Alex Scott and Brentford’s Yehor Yarmolyuk ahead of the January window.

The publication adds that any move for a midfielder is expected to hinge on whether Yves Bissouma departs the club.

Luka Modric reveals extreme measures he took after Daniel Levy broke his Tottenham trust - Spurs Web
Description

Luka Modric revealed what he had to do to leave Tottenham Hotspur after Daniel Levy took a hardline stance on his future.

Over the past week, the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner has been speaking a lot to the media about his time in North London.

A few days ago, Modric revealed that he wanted to join Chelsea in 2011, but Daniel Levy refused to sell him to Tottenham’s London rivals.

In the same interview, the 40-year-old explained that he is happy with the way things worked out since he joined Real Madrid a year later, but he has now confessed that a move to the Santiago Bernabeu was not easy either.

Daniel Levy’s clear message to Luka Modric about Tottenham departure

The midfielder, who called time on his 15-year spell with the La Liga giants in the summer and joined AC Milan, has now revealed that he remained keen on joining Chelsea even after the failed move in 2011.

However, former Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy told Modric in no uncertain terms that he would only sell him to Real Madrid.

The 40-year-old stated in an interview with Sportske Novosti (as relayed by Sport Witness): “Levy promised me mid-season that he would let me go because I kept insisting and Chelsea still wanted me. We also talked about a new contract, and at one point, I don’t know why, he told me, ‘The only club I would let you go to is Real’.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“No matter how much you believe in yourself, Real sometimes sounds unattainable. I asked him what if Real doesn’t come, and he repeated the same thing during another conversation we had later. Even before the start of preparations for the Euros, they called me saying Real wanted me! I was like ‘wow,’ I was stunned, that’s it.”

Modric admits he had to take extreme steps to leave Spurs

The six-time Champions League winner explained that a move to Madrid was far from straightforward, as Levy made the negotiations very difficult.

The former Spurs midfielder revealed that he threatened to boycott training to force through a move to the Spanish capital.

Modric added: “I already talked to the coach in Rovinj, but leaving wasn’t easy. Despite what he (Levy) told me, the negotiations were tough and long. I behaved differently then [threatened to boycott Tottenham training], even though it was hard for me to take that step, but I had given my word.”

“It was hard and long, but at that moment, I was ready not to play anymore. It’s not in my character; it was hard because of my relationship with the fans, but I didn’t see another way.”

Supercomputer predicts Tottenham's chances of beating Brentford in the Thomas Frank derby - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham fans will not like hearing what Opta’s Supercomputer has predicted about the North London club’s chances of beating Brentford.

Tottenham are winless at home in the Premier League since the opening day of the season, and the team’s home form has been the main source of consternation for the club’s supporters.

In fact, their poor form at home goes back much further, with Spurs only having three wins at home across the calendar year, and having suffered a record 10 losses at their ground in the Premier League across 2025.

This campaign, only bottom-of-the-table Wolves have a worse record at home in the top-flight than the Lilywhites, who will be desperate to finally give their fans something to cheer about.

Tottenham have a less than 50 per cent chance of beating Brentford

However, according to Opta’s Supercomputer, Tottenham Hotspur are less likely to win than not against the Bees on Saturday.

The data analysis platform gives the North London club just a 44.5 per cent chance of picking up all three points against Frank’s former side.

Opta say that there is a 26.8 per cent chance of the game ending in a draw, while the West London club have a 28.7 per cent chance of inflicting their fifth home defeat of the season on Tottenham.

Spurs need to start well to get the fans onside

The worsening relationship between the Tottenham fans and the players has been well documented over recent weeks.

The atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been toxic at times due to the poor performances and results that Frank’s men have served.

If Brentford take the lead and Spurs make a slow start, the frustrations of the supporters will start boiling over and make things very difficult for the Lilywhites.

It is thus imperative that Tottenham start on the front foot and get the fans on their side in the early stages of the game.

How long Thomas Frank has to turn things around and escape the Tottenham sack

How long Thomas Frank has to turn things around and escape the Tottenham sack - Spurs Web
Description

A new report has now revealed how much time Thomas Frank has to turn things around at Tottenham Hotspur.

Results have not been going as expected for Thomas Frank in recent weeks, with his side’s form taking a massive nosedive and no sign yet of a revival to steady the ship.

Tottenham Hotspur have been woeful since October and went the entire month of November without a single Premier League victory, which has left the mood around the fanbase flat and increasingly tense.

Sections of the Tottenham support have seen enough and are calling for the manager to be dismissed, given his inability to turn things around.

How much time Thomas Frank has to turn things around at Tottenham

Indeed, recent results have contributed to the dissatisfaction amongst some fans.

Arsenal embarrassed Tottenham at the Emirates, while Fulham compounded Spurs‘ home misery with another damaging defeat, a record Frank has struggled to fix, which led to boos ringing around the stadium.

However, according to Football Insider, it is understood that Thomas Frank is under no immediate pressure to lose his job at Tottenham.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The Tottenham boss hit out at his own fans after the Fulham defeat, while Spurs supporters fired back massively on social media, labelling the Dane a fake Spurs manager.

Despite that, it is believed that Frank retains the backing of the Tottenham board, and he is set to be given until at least the New Year in order to turn their recent form around.

It is explained that the Tottenham board recognise the poor run of results of late, but still intend to build a long-term project with the man they appointed during the summer.

Tottenham planning January support for Thomas Frank

While Frank is not under any internal pressure from within the club, Football Insider have also stated that Spurs are prepared to back the Spurs boss in the winter transfer window.

The January market is fast approaching, and the publication has revealed that Tottenham are looking to bring in a forward to help bolster Frank’s attack as they try to sharpen their cutting edge in the final third.

The Dane has had Richarlison and Muani as his main striking options this season, while Dominic Solanke has been injured, but it is understood that the output of the forwards has not been good enough, which has pushed Tottenham toward seeking alternatives.

Because of this, it is highly unlikely the club hierarchy decides to pull the trigger on Frank before he is given the necessary tools to rebuild the team and reshape the attack in his own image.
