Ange Postecoglou has bad news for Bergvall dreamers but good news on Tottenham forward - Spurs Web
Description

Ange Postecoglou has offered a fresh update on Tottenham’s injury situation ahead of their Premier League clash against Aston Villa.

Tottenham Hotspur are set to take on Aston Villa in the Premier League on Friday in what is their penultimate game of the League season.

Indeed, with a Europa League final only just six days away, Tottenham would have their eyes fixed on 21 May in Spain at the San Mames Stadium.

Ange Postecoglou would be hoping that his side are not handed any more injury blows after three of his most creative midfielders have been ruled out for the final against Manchester United.

James Maddison is out for three months after picking up an injury to his knee in Tottenham’s first-leg semi-final win against Bodo/Glimt at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Dejan Kulusevski picked up a knock to his knee in Tottenham’s last Premier League game against Crystal Palace, and Kulusevski has since had to undergo surgery.

Lucas Bergvall injured his ankle ligament and is expected to be out for eight weeks, however, rumours suggest that Bergvall could be fit just in time for the final in Spain.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Ahead of the Premier League clash against Aston Villa, Ange Postecoglou has now provided an update on the fitness of his Tottenham squad.

Speaking on Lucas Bergvall’s fitness and the likelihood of him featuring in the Europa League against Manchester United, Postecoglou told football.london: “No, it’s still the same sort of timeframe. Never long term but he’s just got out of his boot and taking his first steps on the grass but he’ll likely be a while.”

On whether Heung-min Son would feature against Aston Villa, the Spurs boss continued: “He’ll definitely play tomorrow. Whether he’ll start or not we’ll see. He reacted well to Sunday and it makes sense to get him more match minutes whether it’s starting or playing half of the game.”

Dejan Kulusevski has now broken his silence following confirmation that his 2024/25 campaign is officially over due to injury, with the Swedish midfielder taking to Instagram to send a heartfelt message to Tottenham supporters.

For most of the 2024/25 season, Dejan Kulusevski has been widely regarded as Tottenham’s standout performer.

The midfielder’s work rate, creativity and versatility have been on full display throughout the campaign, all of which played a major role in making him a fan favourite.

Kulusevski has also delivered in terms of end product, registering 21 goal contributions across all competitions, scoring ten times and providing 11 assists in 35 starts for the Lilywhites.

However, the Swede’s season has now been brought to an end following the knee injury he sustained during Tottenham’s win over Crystal Palace.

Dejan Kulusevski sends heartfelt message to Tottenham fans after season-ending injury

Tottenham Hotspur have just three fixtures remaining before the 2024/25 campaign draws to a close.

While domestic form has been patchy, Ange Postecoglou’s side has excelled in Europe and are set to face Manchester United in the Europa League final in just six days.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Dejan Kulusevski will miss the Europa League final after the club confirmed he has undergone surgery on his right patella, following the knock he picked up against Crystal Palace.

The midfielder, well aware that his season has ended, has since taken to Instagram to issue a message of gratitude to the fans.

Sharing a video montage of his best moments this season, the 25-year-old thanked supporters for their backing and vowed to return stronger.

His caption read: “Realest one u ever seen. For the people that I gave joy this year, thank you I appreciate you and I love you. I pray for you. Do not be sad, we will be back and we coming for everybody.”

Spurs sweat on Lucas Bergvall with James Maddison ruled out

Tottenham are now set to finish the season without Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison and Lucas Bergvall, all of whom have picked up injuries in recent weeks.

However, the latest rumours suggest that Lucas Bergvall’s issue might not be as serious as initially feared, with whispers that he could feature in the Europa League final.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur may have been handed an unexpected boost ahead of the Europa League final, with two Manchester United stars missing from training at Carrington.

Speaking ahead of the Europa League final set to take place in Spain at the San Mames Stadium on 21 May, Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim made it clear that he would love for his side to go into the final injury-free.

He said: “I am just worried about the next game, trying not to get any injuries for the final. If we do not win the final, it means nothing for us. We have to have a full squad [against Tottenham], stay in the game and have a bit of luck and we have to be clinical.”

With seven days to go before the final in Spain, Manchester United are now sweating over the fitness of two of their centre-backs.

Tottenham handed Europa League final boost as Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt miss training

This report comes from George Smith, a writer for the Manchester Evening News, who has now revealed that neither Leny Yoro nor Matthijs de Ligt trained at Carrington this morning (14 May).

The journalist stated that there are big question marks surrounding the pair ahead of next week’s Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur.

This comes after Matthijs de Ligt missed the last two games, while Leny Yoro was forced off against West Ham United after picking up a knock.

His tweet read: “Neither Leny Yoro or Matthijs de Ligt are training at Carrington this morning. Big question marks surround the pair ahead of next week’s Europa League final against Tottenham. De Ligt has missed the last two games and Yoro went off vs WHU.”

Spurs midfield crisis worsens ahead of Europa League final

It is never a good thing to see players pick up injuries, especially when there is a big game coming up, but that has been the story of both clubs’ season this campaign.

Tottenham, who have had to navigate an injury crisis for most of the season, are now dealing with a midfield crisis as James Maddison, Lucas Bergvall, and Dejan Kulusevski are all out and will not be in contention for the final (unless you believe the rumours about Bergvall).

Description

Heung-min Son has allegedly been the target of an extortion attempt back in South Korea, with a report revealing that the Seoul police have taken two people into custody for allegedly blackmailing the Tottenham captain with fake pregnancy claims.

The Tottenham Hotspur forward returned from his injury in the club’s 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, and he now has his eyes set on winning his first trophy for the Lilywhites.

Son has admitted that the Europa League is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for him to secure his Tottenham legacy and break the club’s trophy drought.

It has now emerged that the forward has had to deal with a stressful situation over recent months and filed a police complaint a few days ago after being the target of an extortion attempt.

Two arrested for allegedly trying to extort money from Heung-min Son

Yonhap News reveals that Son contacted the Korean police, alleging that a man and woman attempted to blackmail him.

The Tottenham star was allegedly approached by a woman claiming that she was pregnant with his child, with the woman thought to have first reached out to Son last June.

He and a man, who is believed to be one of her acquaintances, then allegedly approached the Spurs star again in March, demanding money in exchange for being silent.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Son filed a complaint with the police last week, and the Gangnam Police Station in southern Seoul has confirmed that they had arrested a woman in his 20s and a man on suspicion of attempting to extort money from the 32-year-old superstar.

The arrests should hopefully put Son’s mind at ease

One can imagine that this has been playing on Son’s mind for a long time, given that the extortion attempt allegedly started last summer.

Hopefully, the action by the police will put the Tottenham star at ease as he prepares for one of the biggest games of his career.

Guglielmo Vicario has now sent an emotional message of support to Dejan Kulusevski after his latest injury setback ahead of Tottenham’s Europa League final.

Tottenham Hotspur were dealt another frustrating injury blow yesterday, after it was confirmed that Dejan Kulusevski had undergone surgery on his right patella.

Following the announcement, Tottenham supporters flooded social media with concern and despair, with many claiming the club has been cursed this season and nothing has gone their way.

The timing could not have been worse for Tottenham, who are now heading into the Europa League final against Manchester United at the San Mames Stadium without several creative options in midfield.

James Maddison and Lucas Bergvall are already out through long-term injuries, leaving the squad threadbare in the attacking midfield area.

Guglielmo Vicario shows support to Dejan Kulusevski after surgery

If Tottenham are to overcome Manchester United on 21 May, they will have to do so without a host of key players.

Guglielmo Vicario has now taken to social media to send a heartwarming message to one such player, Dejan Kulusevski, following his latest setback.

The Italian goalkeeper stated that the Tottenham family would miss the Swedish midfielder and that the Spurs squad is determined to win the final for him.

Kulusevski’s absence a big blow for Spurs against Manchester United

Tottenham confirmed in their official statement that Dejan Kulusevski would now begin rehabilitation work with the club’s medical team.

Although the Swede’s form has dipped in recent weeks, his absence remains significant ahead of the clash with Manchester United.

Villarreal ready to pounce on £12.5m Tottenham player after loan clause twist - Spurs Web
Description

Villarreal are ready to pounce on a Tottenham Hotspur attacker after learning that the club he is currently on loan at cannot afford to pay his release clause.

Several Tottenham players have impressed out on loan this season, and a couple of them have put themselves in the shop window.

One of those is Bryan Gil, who has shone right from day one at Girona, not only emerging as one of the club’s best players but also forcing himself back into the Spanish national team set-up.

A permanent departure from Tottenham Hotspur this summer seemed inevitable for the winger, but that has been put in doubt after the 24-year-old picked up a knee injury back in March, which ended his season prematurely.

Over recent weeks, it has been reported that Girona are now unlikely to activate their €15m (£12.5m) option to buy Gil, but another Spanish club are now allegedly ready to pounce.

Villarreal plotting a move for Tottenham’s Bryan Gil

According to a report in El Desmarque, Villarreal are now plotting a move to sign the Spain international this summer.

In fact, the outlet alleges that they have identified the Tottenham man as one of their three top summer targets alongside UD Las Palmas’ Alberto Moleiro and Atlético Madrid’s Rodrigo Riquelme if they qualify for the Champions League.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It is pointed out that Girona cannot afford to pay £12.5m to land Gil, which has opened the door to Marcelino García Toral’s men, who would find the deal more affordable, particularly if they achieve Champions League qualification.

What has Gil said about his future?

While it is not clear where the winger will end up, it is certain that he will not be at Spurs next summer.

This was confirmed by the player himself two weeks ago, with Gil stating that he will leave Tottenham this summer, adding that he has no hard feelings towards the club.

Description

A fresh report from France has suggested that the Premier League appears to be the most likely destination for Rayan Cherki, revealing that Tottenham are one of three English clubs that have made advances towards the attacking midfielder.

The Lyon attacker has emerged as one of the best young prospects in Ligue 1, and with just a year left on his contract, the chances of a summer move are now being talked up.

It has been reported by some sources over recent weeks that Tottenham have moved into pole position to land Rayan Cherki.

Some outlets have even claimed that Cherki’s representatives have already spoken to Spurs about a summer move after the North London club gave indications that they intend to make an approach for him.

Tottenham are battling Liverpool and Man City for Rayan Cherki

According to Le Parisien, the France Under-21 international is guaranteed to leave Lyon at the end of the season, with the club failing in their attempts to tie him down to a new deal.

The report says that a move to the Premier League appears to be on the cards for Cherki, while the Bundesliga also remains a plausible destination.

However, it is the interest from England that is the most serious, with Tottenham Hotspur already sitting at the table and ‘taking information’ on the player.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The Lilywhites are not alone, with Liverpool and Man City also studying a potential move for the Lyon man.

European giants pull out of race to sign Rayan Cherki

Le Parisien hand Tottenham a further boost by stating that Paris Saint-Germain are no longer contenders to win the race for Cherki.

It is pointed out that PSG came close to signing the winger last summer and the French giants went ‘mad with rage’ when the deal fell through.

Tottenham fans left stunned by worrying Mikey Moore transfer rumour

Tottenham fans left stunned by worrying Mikey Moore transfer rumour - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur fans are growing increasingly anxious amid fresh transfer links surrounding teenage sensation Mikey Moore, with European interest beginning to swirl around the highly-rated academy product.

Tottenham Hotspur’s academy graduate Mikey Moore has seen a fair increase in gametime this season, with the youngster getting a taste of first-team football with the Tottenham senior squad.

Mikey Moore was described as “fearless” by James Maddison following an impressive display in the Europa League against AZ Alkmaar, with the 28-year-old comparing Moore to Neymar.

The teenager, who has featured in 18 games for Spurs this season, is now attracting attention from sides in Europe, with reports stating that Borussia Dortmund are closely monitoring Mikey Moore and that contact has been made with the player’s management, although nothing is concrete at this stage.

The report also states that for Moore, a move within the Premier League currently appears more likely. Spurs fans, well aware of the latest reports, are in disbelief that the teenager could be sold by Tottenham.

One fan said: “Assuming it is a loan because good luck trying to get him out of Tottenham otherwise.”

Another simply stated he is not for sale: “Any move for Mikey out of Spurs would be a loan. We will not be selling him!”

MORE SPURS STORIES

A supporter remained unconvinced about the club’s handling of the player, stating: “Why is a top team like Dortmund taking young British talent and developing them when teams like Spurs do not? When fit, he should be on as a sub every game. Surely then he develops, not left out of the team for months on end!”

Another replied sarcastically: “I wish them the same success obtaining players they are monitoring as we experience every window with the ones we have ‘monitored’.”

One simply commented: “No, please no 😤☹️😭.” Another added: “Why is it so hard for us to just play him like a regular, rotate and keep him in the squad?”

Meanwhile, one fan suggested a temporary move might suit all parties: “Good for a loan as Dortmund develops players really well.”

Ange Postecoglou explains limited Spurs gametime for Moore

While the report has stated that nothing concrete has developed between Moore and other clubs, Spurs fans are visibly frustrated about the limited gametime the teenager has had.

However, Ange Postecoglou has offered more clarity on why Mikey Moore has not started for Tottenham more regularly. He said: “We have exposed Mikey a hell of a lot more than I thought we would at the start of the year.

“He only just started playing Under-21 football last year and he had some injuries, did not play a lot. It was kind of touch-and-go at the start of the year, do we let him bed in with the 21s or give him a loan or keep him with us?

“But my thing was to let him train for a year, train with men, train in the first team environment and see how he adapts.

“At the end of that, he will still be 17 or 18 and we can make decisions, but he has played a lot more than we thought. But he is very much a part of our set-up in the first team and he is training every day.”

Tottenham should consider signing one of Ange Postecoglou’s former players

Tottenham should consider signing one of Ange Postecoglou’s former players - Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to look at forwards in the summer transfer window and one former player of Ange Postecoglou could be a strong addition to the Spurs squad.

Tottenham have favoured signing players capable of operating as both a striker and a left winger in recent times. Heung-min-Son and Richarlison both possess this capability and Ange Postecoglou has continued this transfer trend.

Since he arrived at Hotspur Way, Spurs have completed the loan signings of Timo Werner and Mathys Tel, both of whom have played up front and on the left flank. However, Werner is unlikely to remain at Spurs next season, while there are some doubts over Tel’s Tottenham future.

Richarlison has also been linked with a move away from Spurs, while Son’s extended contract expires next summer. It is therefore important that Tottenham sign adequate replacements and one potential option is a player Postecoglou has worked with in the past.

Tottenham should look to sign Daizen Maeda

Daizen Maeda was first linked with a move to Spurs shortly after Postecoglou made the switch from Celtic to Tottenham. This month, Tottenham are said to once again be monitoring Maeda. The Japan international has had an outstanding season and was recently named the PFA Scotland Player of the Year.

This is in stark contrast to the player Maeda was when Postecoglou signed him for Celtic. His breathtaking work rate was second to none. However, his lack of end product was a major problem, which often saw Jota and Kyogo Furuhashi start ahead of him.

This is no longer an issue, as Maeda has registered 33 goals and 12 assists in all competitions this season, including four goals in the Champions League. His decision-making has vastly improved, while his finishing is much better than in previous seasons.

MORE SPURS STORIES

What can Spurs supporters expect from Daizen Maeda?

Maeda is a versatile player who not only fulfils his attacking duties, but makes darting runs back to assist in defence. His electric pace and non-stop running are useful as he makes runs behind the opposition’s backline and always looks to press and put them under pressure.

Former Spurs defender Cameron Carter-Vickers revealed how Bayern Munich’s players heaped praise on Maeda after the Bundesliga champions played Celtic in this season’s Champions League (BBC). Eric Dier told the American international that his Bayern teammates commented on Maeda’s running and how much energy he put into the game.

In the current Tottenham first-team squad, only Micky van de Ven and Lucas Bergvall come close to Maeda when it comes to athleticism and stamina.

How would Maeda fit into Tottenham’s squad?

There is a possibility that Postecoglou will depart Spurs at the end of the season. Even if he does, Maeda would be a good signing. After all, he has looked a far better player under the management of Brendan Rodgers than when he played under the current Tottenham boss.

Maeda has impressed as a striker this season, but it is unlikely he would be chosen to start ahead of Dominic Solanke. However, his chances of playing regularly as a left winger look promising, considering Tottenham’s potential summer departures. Also, many to have played in that position during the current campaign have underperformed.

The only negative with Maeda is that he turns 28 in October. However, he does not look like the kind of player who will slow down anytime soon. One only has to look at former Celtic free kick specialist Shunsuke Nakamura, who retired aged 44, and Kazuyoshi Miura, who astonishingly still plays at the age of 58. Slowing down is seemingly almost non-existent in Japan.

Rumour says injured Tottenham star could make shock return for Europa League final - Spurs Web
Description

Recent rumours have now hinted that there is a chance Tottenham Hotspur’s Lucas Bergvall could feature in the Europa League final against Manchester United.

Tottenham Hotspur are no strangers to an injury crisis, having endured one of the most relentless spells of unavailability across the entire division earlier this season.

While many supporters had hoped that the worst was behind them, the club now finds itself navigating a mini crisis once again, just days before their biggest match of the campaign.

Dejan Kulusevski is currently a doubt for Wednesday’s Europa League final after picking up a knee injury during Tottenham’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace.

James Maddison, meanwhile, has already been ruled out for three months after damaging his knee in the semi-final first leg against Bodo/Glimt, leaving Ange Postecoglou with further selection headaches.

Lucas Bergvall fitness rumour gives Tottenham late hope for Europa League final

Lucas Bergvall is also expected to miss the final, with reports confirming he is set to be sidelined for at least eight weeks due to injury.

Ange Postecoglou admitted that had the final taken place a fortnight later, the midfielder may have had a chance of featuring, which underscores just how tight the timeline is for a potential return.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, Marcus Buckland of The Tottenham Way podcast has now shared a glimmer of hope, claiming he has heard a rumour suggesting Bergvall may yet be involved in some capacity.

Buckland said, “Lucas Bergvall, how I would love to wake up on the morning of the final and he’s okay. I heard a rumour yesterday – and I do not know if there is any substance to it – suggesting that Bergvall may have a chance to be involved in the final, but that is hearsay.”

Spurs midfield options if Bergvall misses the Europa League final

Ange Postecoglou has recently spoken about the presence of a potential mole within the Tottenham camp, which raises the question as to how such rumours continue to circulate. That said, there may be some truth to the suggestion that Bergvall could recover in time.

Should the Swede ultimately miss out, however, Tottenham will need to turn to their depth in midfield, with the likes of Yves Bissouma, Archie Gray and Pape Matar Sarr all capable of stepping into the pivot role.
