Rangers boss Danny Rohl insists he will do everything in his power to keep on loan Tottenham Hotspur forward Mikey Moore at Ibrox beyond the end of the season.

The 18-year-old winger shone once again as he scored and delivered a man-of-the-match display in the Light Blues’ 4-1 victory over Aberdeen on Saturday night - a result that keeps them on Hearts’ coat-tails in the Premiership title race.

Englishman Moore notched Rangers second goal of the evening with a composed finish before the home crowd proceeded to sing his name and give him a standing ovation when he was eventually replaced in the closing stages.

Since making the move to Glasgow last summer, Moore has developed into a fans’ favourite but is due to return to North London once the season has reached it conclusion, meaning Rangers would likely need to agree a second loan stint with the Premier League giants.

But Gers head coach Rohl is determined to make it happen as he reiterated his desire to bring the youngster back to Rangers before revealing that talks are already underway between the two parties.

Asked about supporters wanting Moore to stay, Rohl responded with a wry smile: “Me as well! There’s no question mark. We started this week to prepare for the summer. We’re in a good position and we are very clear about what we want.

“It’s also helpful now that we have an idea of how I want to play football. We’re committed with a fantastic owner and good people around me. Everything goes in the right direction. We’re working hard to prepare for next season but let’s finish this one strong and successful.

“I think conversations are always there (regarding Moore). We know when Mikey performs like this, he enjoys playing for Rangers. The fans love him, I like him and he’s a key player. There’s a lot of good things, where we could go again together.

“But he’s still not our player so let’s work in that direction. The most important thing is to get results in our next seven games. He enjoys it here and he’s getting better and better.”

Rohl convinced title will belong to Rangers if performance levels are maintained

Further goals from Tochi Chukwuani, Nicolas Raskin and James Tavernier capped off an impressive win over the Dons. And Rohl was thrilled with his team’s dominant display as they stayed within three points off leaders Hearts at the top of the table.

The German boss is now urging his players to keep hitting a similar performance level as they look to finish the season unbeaten. Should they managed to do so after the international break, Rohl is confident the trophy will be heading to Ibrox.

“It was a great performance today,” he stated. “We spoke about getting a result and performance and we got both. It makes me really happy to see my team perform like this.

“We want to see goals but also clean sheets. The only small thing today was that we let Aberdeen back in for a short moment at 2-0. But in general, we played with intensity, we were aggressive and it was a good performance.

“It’s a small statement from us, especially with the goal difference. We’ve won our last two ‘cup finals’. Now we have seven more to go. We cannot influence the schedule. We just want to win the next two games before we go into the split and the final five games will be exciting.

“What’s important is that we have something to celebrate on the final match day. It doesn’t matter what the others are doing. If we win the seven games, we’ll win the league.”

Harry Redknapp has made light of his Tottenham return links as his former side continue their fall from grace in the English top-flight, however he stated if he was to return, he’d bring the band back together - including a former Rangers duo.

The former Spurs gaffer managed eight different clubs south of the border during a career that spanned three decades. He moved from Portsmouth to White Hart Lane in 2008 and took a plethora of Pompey stars with him. As the pressure builds on Spurs current boss Igor Tudor after four defeats in his first four matches, Redknapp is among the names being bandied about as potential successors.

The 79-year old was spotted at Cheltenham through the week, cheering on his horse The Jukebox Man in the Gold Cup. When asked by Itv Racing’s Matt Chapman if he would consider a return, he joked he would bring two former Ibrox stars with him.

Redknapp ready to call upon Rangers duo

Former Ibrox marksman Jermaine Defoe played under Redknapp for West Ham, Portsmouth and Spurs, while ex Rangers midfielder Nico Kranjcar was also signed by him three times for Pompey, Tottenham and QPR. Along with Peter Crouch - another forward who Redknapp signed on several occasions - the legendary gaffer joked he’d be getting the band back together if a Tottenham return was on the cards.

He said: “I’m not saying I wouldn’t take the job, I certainly would. But I doubt very much that it would happen. I’d love the opportunity. I’d go in and have a crack at it. It’s a big challenge. At my age, do I need that kind of pressure in this stage of my life? Yes, why not? I’d give it a go. I’m not too old and I feel as fit as a fiddle.

“So yes, if they asked me, I think I could go in there and do the job for sure. I’m bringing Kranjcar, Crouchy and Defoe, they’re all coming back. That would be the forward line on Saturday! We’d be ready to go. But, of course I’d absolutely take the job.”

What has happened at Tottenham?

After Ange Postecoglou ended Spurs’ 17-year trophy drought last season, the club were looking to build on that success but after a year of ill-discipline, in-fighting, fan protests and general turmoil at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the chances are becoming increasingly likely that their 48 year stay in the English top flight could come to an end. They currently sit just one point clear of the drop zone.

Danny Rohl has hinted that Rangers are open to making an approach to Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur to extend Mikey Moore’s stay at the club beyond the end of the season.

The 18-year-old playmaker joined the Ibrox side on a season-long loan from Spurs last summer and after a sluggish start under previous boss Russell Martin, the winger has developed into a first-team regular under current head coach Rohl.

To date, Moore has made 36 appearances across all competitions and has offered versatility in the attacking areas. He has developed into a fans’ favourite and the player himself has already spoken of his affection for the club.

Moore is tied down to a “long-term” contract in North London, but with Tottenham changing their manager and battling relegation this term, the teenage prospect could face an uncertain future.

Rohl admits he has enjoyed working with the Spurs talent and confirmed that discussions will begin soon on plans for next season, suggesting a return for Moore either on another loan or a permanent deal could be on the table.

“Yeah, first, I think he made a fantastic development since I’m here,” Rohl admitted when asked about the possibility of Moore staying at Ibrox beyond the summer. “He showed his quality, he’s still a young player, and he gained a lot of good experience this year.

Follow our GlasgowWorld - Rangers Facebook page to get all the latest news stories on the Light Blues

“To play for a big club is always important, helpful in a young career, and a good experience; he did so well. I’m happy with him and of course, let’s see what we can do. I think this is something to consider in the following weeks.

“I think this is a good thing that we are clear, we start next week as well to speak about the summer (as a club). Bring all this information together, and I think it’s important not just what we feel, I think Mikey feels also really good here, you see the relationship between him and the fans.

“He likes the club, but there are a lot of different people around to make such a decision. I think let’s see what we can do in the future. For now lets focus on the title race and then we will hopefully make good decisions in the summer.

Rohl seeks patience from Rangers fans but urges them to bring the passion

Rangers head into Sunday’s colossal Old Firm meeting in a better position than rivals Celtic, but the emergence of a third force in Hearts this season has made for a fascinating title race.

The outcome of this game out have severe consequences for the losing side with the stakes now higher than ever before in determining how might lift the Premiership title.

Rohl is pleading for patience from an expectant home crowd this weekend as they look to break down Celtic, but has urged them to bring the passion and the noise.

The German added: “Yes, I think this is a big part of our development, we know we want to play forward, we want to attack. For me, it’s not necessary to prepare the next chance with 100 passes, I’ve said this many times, but sometimes you have to move the opponent in one space so you can attack the other space.

”But generally it’s important that we have our vertical possession in our mind, instead of we play backwards, backwards, and if we can do this and we stick to this principle and hen we make good decisions.”

A pundit has claimed that Tottenham would be open to allowing Mikey Moore return south of the border this summer - but Rangers may have an alternate plan.

Mikey Moore joined the Light Blues on loan from the Premier League side last summer and after a slow start under Russell Martin, the arrival of head coach Danny Rohl has sparked the promising Spurs talent into life. It’s got some asking whether or not Rangers will be back in for him this summer.

Barry Ferguson is an Ibrox icon and watched Rohl’s side in training last week with a host of other Light Blues legend. Serving as interim manager last term, he discussed Moore’s future at Tottenham and Rangers on Go Radio, alongside ex-Aston Villa, Celtic and Norwich City coach Peter Grant.

Barry Ferguson on Mikey Moore

He has loved watching him play for Rangers in a variety of attacking roles and believes the loan has been of benefit to all parties. A question now sits of what happens once it expires in the summer.

Ferguson said: “He makes things happen. Listen, he came up here as a boy and he's grown into a man. There's no doubt about it. He’s had a new lease of life under Danny Rohl. I really like him centrally. I think he's so dangerous, but listen, the great thing about him is the young man can play on either flank. When he plays just in behind in that kind of floating role behind a main striker, he's so dangerous.

“Do you know what I love about him? He gets the ball and his first thing is he's direct. He goes towards the goal. He's always looking to go and get at defenders. Yeah, I just, I really like him. We spoke about it a couple of weeks ago. This is going to be the issue. I think Rangers has been good for Mikey Moore and it's been good for Tottenham as well for his development. What's Tottenham going to do with him in the summer?

Why would Rangers buy Mike Moore from Tottenham?

Grant, who has coached south of the border at youth level with sides like Fulham, believes Tottenham would sanction another move north for Moore but Rangers would explore a profit opportunity in buying him outright. He said: “Tottenham would allow me to stay up here. Tottenham would allow him to stay up here and I think Rangers would buy him.

“I think Rangers would buy him because then they think they could sell him on. You know the thing that surprised me with all of that, remember I said months and months ago when he came up and Russell Martin signed him.

“I can't believe he's playing him wide right. I said he is in behind the striker and he is a threat. It doesn't matter, forget his age. He is a threat when he plays in there. I have seen him a lot at Tottenham as a kid. That's his only position.”

Rangers remain in contention for the Scottish Premiership title under Danny Rohl and will hope that the contributions of Tottenham Hotspur loanee Mikey Moore will help them in their quest in the remainder of the season.

The 18-year-old winger signed on a season-long loan deal last summer and has stepped up at Ibrox, in what is his first experience of regular senior first-team football after just 12 Premier League appearances for Spurs. Bagging five goals and three assists in all competitions for the Gers, the teenager has become a regular starter under Rohl and has been named in the XI in 11 of the last 13 Scottish Premiership matches.

Moore scored a late equaliser on Sunday as Rangers came from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Livingston but saw the deficit at the top increase to four points, after a stunning 4-2 victory over Hearts at Ibrox the week prior had blown the race for top spot wide open.

Rangers could face roadblock in second Moore transfer deal

Rangers are ‘eager’ to sign Moore on a second loan deal this summer but could find an unlikely stumbling block in the shape of Tottenham’s unstable Premier League status, as per reports by TEAMtalk.

Moore has excelled during his spell north of the border and club officials feel that a second loan spell at the club would be beneficial to the teenager as he continues his development. The England Under-19 international is thought to feel at home in Glasgow and would be open to the idea of returning, appearing ‘equally enthusiastic’ about extending his stay.

However, if Spurs were to suffer a shock relegation to the Championship, this could change matters. Reporting claims that the north London club would be keen to have Moore within their first-team squad if they were relegated to the second tier for the 2026/27 season. While this would have been an unthinkable proposition just a few short months ago, Igor Tudor’s side are sat 16th in the table and just four points above the drop zone without a league victory in 2026.

Moore’s progress in Glasgow will be keenly watched and without a permanent buy clause in his contract another loan deal could become a possibility, as long as Tottenham remain in the top flight come the end of the season.

Rohl rages after ‘clear foul’ on Moore goes unpunished

Rohl was furious with match officials on Sunday after a late challenge on Moore went unpunished in stoppage time at Livingston, with the Spurs loanee thinking he had won a penalty after a crunching tackle by Cammy Kerr - leading to a pundit debate on the incident.

Rohl told reporters at full-time: “For me, it’s a clear foul. I think it’s on the line. And then it’s two decisions. If it’s outside, it’s a red card and a free kick. If it’s inside, then it’s a penalty and a yellow card.

“I think there’s no [contact] on the ball, the contact goes to the man. I think those are crucial moments in this [title] race as well.”

Asked if he was surprised the referee wasn’t sent to his pitch-side monitor, he said: “Yeah, of course. The first thing is, when they checked over two or three minutes, there must be something. And then I was surprised that the ref did not watch it back. Maybe he has an explanation. I don’t have this but, finally, again, we have 100 minutes to decide this game earlier.”

Tottenham have been urged to learn from Celtic decision making over the hire of their short-term gaffer.

Thomas Frank has been sacked as head coach after less than a whole season and relegation fears are deepening at the Premier League heavyweight. Former Juventus boss Igor Tudor has been hired until the end of the season, as Tottenham target a longer term appointment in the summer.

It’s similar thinking to Celtic bringing back Martin O’Neill on two occasions this term, once to replace Brendan Rodgers and then again until the end of this season after Wilfried Nancy’s calamitous tenure. Former Scotland international and Premier League winner at Blackburn, Kevin Gallacher, reckons there’s plenty Spurs can take from the continued winning run O’Neill has put together at Celtic.

What is the next manager situation at Tottenham Hotspur?

Gallacher told the Sunday Post: Mauricio Pochettino has been mentioned and that is one I could see working. Poch has done it all before - Spurs were both Premier League and Champions League runners-up when he was in charge between 2014 and 2019.He was hugely popular with the fans then so 1 am sure they would get behind him if he returned. But, and it is a big but, he is already in a huge job as it is.

“He is manager of the USA national side and, as such, is entitled to think he has a decent shot at doing well in their home World Cup this summer. Joining Spurs after it is all over would hold appeal for him, but he is not someone they can bring in now. Which gives them a problem because they cannot just assume they are too big to go down.

“Having been at Blackburn Rovers when they won the title but were relegated four years later, I can testify from experience that it can happen to anybody. I suspect those who are down there now - Wolves, Burnley, and West Ham - will be the ones to go down but you never know. It is a league that seems to throw up regular Great Escape stories. So, Spurs need to take care of their own business, to go out there and pick up the points that will guarantee their safety.

What can Tottenham learn from Celtic appointing Martin O’Neill?

“Tudor will have to earn the player's respect and be a real leader for the rest of the campaign. We talked about Celtic earlier and, for my money, they have the perfecter caretaker boss in Martin O'Neill.

“He commands respect, has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the game yet keeps it simple. The way he got the squad lifted after Rodgers' departure was impressive enough but the "rescue job" he has done after Wilfried Nancy's calamitous time in charge has been incredible.

“To transform a group who had lost six of their last games under the Frenchman to credible title contenders and potential Scottish Cup winners almost overnight is some achievement. Spurs will hope Tudor can do something similar - and quickly.”

Celtic look set to miss out on signing a transfer target from the Premier League this window as Tottenham Hotspur have swooped in and gained significant ground on the Hoops.

Martin O’Neill’s side had been credited with interest in West Ham youngster Elisha Sowunmi this week but the transfer saga has already taken a dramatic turn.

Football Insider reported on Thursday that Celtic were among the clubs ‘plotting’ a move for the 18-year-old, who has impressed in West Ham’s youth sides over recent seasons.

Sowunmi is a versatile forward who can play in any position across the front three. He finished last season as the Irons’ U18s top goal-scorer, with 16 goals and five assists tallied in all competitions. Naturally, he has been attracting interest from England, Scotland and clubs across Europe, but Spurs have beaten the lot.

Tottenham snub Celtic of Premier League transfer target

A newer Football Insider report claims that Celtic have already lost the race for Sowunmi as Tottenham have ‘agreed a deal’ for the rising forward star.

In the initial report, the Hoops were up against an ‘unnamed Premier League side’ in the battle for Sowunmi’s signature. It has now been revealed that the club was Spurs, who are currently 14th in the English top flight and looking to crack the top ten in the coming weeks.

Club Brugge had also tried to sign the West Ham starlet before he signed his first professional deal but he swiftly put pen to paper with the East London side. The Belgian club remained interested in Sowunmi and were in the race alongside Celtic and Spurs, but they have also been let down as he nears a move to Thomas Frank’s side.

Tottenham ‘reach agreement’ with West Ham’s Elisha Sowunmi

“Sources can now reveal that Tottenham were the side rivalling Celtic in their chase, and they have now reached an agreement to bring him to North London,” the Football Insider report claims.

“The 18-year-old has caught the eye of a number of clubs after impressing in West Ham’s academy sides in recent seasons, and Spurs have now acted quickly.”

Sowunmi is set to leave West Ham without making his senior debut for the team. He leaves the Irons in the relegation zone, with a hill still to climb before they can reach safety.

Celtic have been handed a squad boost following a recent Africa Cup of Nations announcement, while Rangers could be fending off clubs in pursuit of one of their key players in the new year.

New manager Wilfried Nancy is yet to get his first win on the board with his new club, having lost against Hearts and Roma since his arrival.

Rangers are next in action on Monday against Hibs in the Scottish Premiership, while Celtic will visit Dundee United on Wednesday.

Rangers will be tempted by ‘significant January offer’ for key Ibrox star

Rangers could be swayed into selling one of their key players in January, with interest building from the Premier League.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are in pursuit of Nicolas Raskin and the Light Blues will ‘find it very difficult’ to turn down a ‘significant offer’ if it comes their way.

The Belgian international has been described as a ‘hugely important’ figure in Danny Rohl’s plans but the club could let down their guard if a ‘significant offer’ comes their way in January.

Spurs have been linked with Raskin since October and they have been left impressed by his performances for both club and country recently.

Rangers are ‘extremely reluctant’ to part ways with the 24-year-old but if Tottenham table a big enough offer, the Glasgow giants may have no choice but to accept it.

Celtic given boost as AFCON update drops

Celtic will be able to call upon Kelechi Iheanacho over the coming weeks as he has not been selected to represent Nigeria for the upcoming AFCON tournament.

The Super Eagles have released their star-studded squad for the action in Morocco, including the likes of Galatasaray’s Victor Osimhen, Fulham’s Alex Iwobi, and former Rangers star Cyriel Dessers.

However, there is no room for Iheanacho, who has missed the last six Scottish Premiership fixtures with Celtic due to an injury.

Nancy recently gave an update on the striker, confirming that he has been ‘training well’ as he nears his return from injury. The 29-year-old was named on the bench against Hearts and made a second half appearance in the Europa League against Roma.

“He has trained well, After that, he needs minutes. It has been a long time, two months since he really played,” Nancy said ahead of the Roma clash.

“The way we work the players who have not played regularly, we try to get them through physical work to get back into the rhythm. For the moment obviously he is not fit to play a lot of minutes, but a few minutes, yes. We will see.”

The deadline for AFCON players to be with their respective national teams is December 15th. The tournament runs until January 18th, which is when the final will be played. Depending on how far Nigeria reach in the tournament, Celtic could have been without Iheanacho for more than a month.

Rangers won 3-0 away at Dundee last time out before the international break. Nicolas Raskin, Mikey Moore and Djeidi Gassama got their goals at Dens Park as they secured a useful three points. The Glasgow giants are back in action next weekend with a home clash against Livingston as they look to build some momentum.

Danny Rohl was picked as their replacement for Russell Martin, who was sacked after his poor start to the season. The German caught the eye down in England during his time at Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship. The Gers are sat in 4th in the Scottish Premiership table behind Hearts, Celtic and Hibernian.

Rangers update regarding Nicolas Raskin

Rangers managed to keep hold of Raskin in the summer transfer window. Their resolve may well be tested again in January. He is under contract at Ibrox until June 2027 meaning they are under no immediate pressure to sell him this winter specifically and they can wait for the right money.

In this latest update regarding his situation in Scotland, his father Thierry has said, as per a report by DHnet: “During a season that will end with a World Cup, this requires serious consideration. But the initial idea is not to leave, especially with a new coach [Rohl], who wants to rebuild something beautiful."

He added: "He knows what is expected of him in the national team and he likes showing what he’s worth. I feel he’s thriving when he’s with the national team.”

Raskin, 24, has made seven caps for the Belgium national team so far in his career. He started out with spells at Anderlecht, Gent and Standard Liege in his native country. The Liege-born man broke into the first-team of the latter in 2019 and went on to make 95 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with five goals.

What now for Nicolas Raskin at Rangers?

Rangers’ hopes of retaining the services of Raskin have been handed a boost by his dad’s comments. It appears the player wants to stay under Rohl for the time being which is a good news. He joined his current club back in January 2023 and he has since played 116 matches, finding the net on eight occasions, and he has established himself a key player.

According to TEAMtalk, he is a ‘target’ for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. Spurs may now have to wait until next summer before they pursue a deal though now. They turned to Thomas Frank as their head coach after sacking former Celtic man Ange Postecoglou and are positioned in 5th in the league.

After signing for Rangers, Raskin said at the time: “I feel very excited to be here and I also feel very proud to join a very big club. I’m looking forward to playing at Ibrox. It was very exciting when I was told of Rangers’ interest because it’s a big club. I’m looking forward to making my debut and I hope it can be as soon as possible.”

A Liverpool and England legend says a former Anfield and Tottenham star would be a good fit as the next Celtic manager.

The Hoops are hunting their next permanent boss after Brendan Rodgers’ resignation last month, with Martin O’Neill currently taking interim charge. A variety of names have been linked with the position but one of them is Robbie Keane, who is currently impressing as head coach of Hungarian side Ferencvaros, previously taking charge at Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Formerly a striker in his playing days, he had a loan at the Hoops before hanging up his boots but is more widely known for stints in England at the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur. John Barnes, who briefly managed Celtic in the late 90s, has observed Keane’s management career to date. With the Hoops unlikely to attract an elite calibre manager, the Anfield and Three Lions favourite claims Keane’s past Hoops experience could edge him into strong Celtic contention.

John Barnes on next Celtic manager

He said: “Robbie Keane is one, obviously, he has that link with Celtic and I think that it would help because he's proven himself. He's been away, he's coached Ferencvaros and did well at other clubs. He has a link with Celtic so therefore the fans will like him.

“The fans will give him time and that's always important for the fans to like him, the fans to give you time. I don't think there are any huge names because obviously if Jose Mourinho wanted it or somebody like that or Jurgen Klopp wanted it, then of course it's a no-brainer.

“But I don't think that Celtic are at that moment, at that place, where you can look for a manager like that, if you like. hey took a chance with Ange when nobody knew much about Ange and it worked. But I think Robbie Keane would be a good fit. “

What type of manager do Celtic need?

Plenty of clubs in Europe now seek a head coach model, whereby a sporting director deals with much of the transfer business, leaving the head coach to focus on mainly first team matters. Barnes reckons that regardless of title, Celtic must follow some Premier League giants in ensuring the next leader is their most important person inside Parkhead.

He added: “No matter what you're calling it, you call it a head coach. Pep Guardiola is the head coach at Manchester City, but he controls, he is the most important man at the club. Mikel Arteta is the head coach at Arsenal, Jurgen Klopp was the head coach at Liverpool, but they are the most important figures. So if you're going to say a head coach is going to come and just coach but have nothing to do with the signings, nothing to do with that, I don't think you're going to get a top, top manager who wants that.

“They want control over it and that's the way it should be. That is why those three teams, Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City are the top teams. You can call them what you want, head coach, manager, big man, whatever you want to call him, but he's the number one man. He has all the control and the club, not in terms of how much money they spend and stuff like that, but which players come into the club. So I'm not really interested in titles. It's more the character of the manager and what the demands are of the manager and the power that he has.
