Manchester City star James McAtee is waiting on Tottenham Hotspur to make their move for him after becoming aware of their interest, GIVEMESPORT sources understand.

McAtee is expected to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer as he has entered the final 12 months of his contract with the club, while also falling further down the pecking order following the arrivals of Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki during this transfer window.

Several clubs have shown an interest, with Nottingham Forest tabling a £25m bid for the England youth international, but City's valuation has so far seen no move materialise.

McAtee, who has been described as "unbelievable" by Liam Delap, enjoyed a fine summer as he captained the England Under-21's to their second consecutive victory in the European Championships.

His participation in the tournament came after he opted to travel with the Young Lions instead of going to the Club World Cup with Pep Guardiola's side, which all but put the final nail in the coffin of his City career.

GMS sources understand that there has been plenty of interest in his services this summer, with clubs in Germany taking a particularly keen eye on the situation, but City's £40m valuation of the Englishman has proven to be a stumbling block in any deals.

Now it has emerged that agents became aware of interest from the Europa League champions this week, and McAtee would be very keen on making the switch to north London to link up with Thomas Frank's side. So much so that sources understand that McAtee is now waiting to see if they will formalise their interest with a concrete approach.

It's understood that Tottenham are not put off by the valuation that Man City have set. However, McAtee is not the only player they're interested in.

Frank and the club's recruitment team have been assessing their options thoroughly over the last few weeks to ensure every opportunity is looked at. But their need for a new attacking midfielder has increased in recent days after James Maddison suffered a ruptured ACL injury, ruling him out for the majority of the 2025/26 season.

Tottenham Hotspur have considered a move for centre-back Malick Thiaw, whose future at current club AC Milan is “increasingly uncertain,” according to CaughtOffside.

Last season, Tottenham finally brought an end to their trophy drought which had spanned 17 years. Ange Postecoglou guided the club to Europa League glory, but the Australian was sacked just weeks after the fact, in no small part due to Spurs’ poor league form that saw them finish 17th in the Premier League.

In Postecoglou’s place, the Lilywhites have appointed Thomas Frank. Across seven years with Brentford, the Dane established himself as a tactically astute coach, one who turned the Bees into an established top flight side. With Champions League football to prepare for, it is no surprise that Spurs have been active in the market.

Tottenham have made notable signings in Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United and Joao Palhinha on loan from Bayern Munich to date. The club were keen on Morgan Gibbs-White before the midfielder penned a new contract with Nottingham Forest and this interest in another creative midfielder will remain, particularly after James Maddison’s long-term injury.

Now, though, it would seem the North London side want to bolster their options in central defence.

Tottenham Consider Move For Thiaw

CaughtOffside have reported that Malick Thiaw is of interest to Spurs as the club search for a new centre-back. Last season, both Micky van der Ven and Cristian Romero had periods of time on the sidelines. Both are brilliant options, but in their absence, Spurs reverted to playing the likes of Djed Spence and Archie Gray in the heart of their defence.

As such, Frank evidently feels his side need further depth which they would certainly find in Thiaw, described as a "physically dominant" defender. A German international, Thiaw has been with Milan since 2022, steadily developing into an important part of their first team. At just 24 years old, Thiaw still has time to improve his already impressive ability.

Tottenham would have to move swiftly for Thiaw, who is closing in on a move to Newcastle United. Should the Lilywhites manage to negotiate a deal for Thiaw, it may prove to be a brilliant addition as Thomas Frank looks to take them back to the top half of the Premier League table.

The England international had been expected to leave Selhurst Park during the summer transfer window after helping the club win the FA Cup for the first time in their history back in May, but with the Eagles' season beginning in less than 24 hours against Liverpool in the Community Shield, he is still very much a key man in south London.

Eze is someone who has been seriously considered by the Europa League winners, and GMS sources understand that Frank has already given the green light to the England international being brought in. However, the club are being very thorough in exploring all potential opportunities in the market before making their move.

Palace are hoping to spark some competition for Eze's signature to ensure that they get maximum value for their star forward, and believe Tottenham could do just that by challenging Arsenal for a deal.

Now, Everton are in talks with Manchester City for Jack Grealish - they want to try for a loan. Grealish would add a huge level of experience to their ranks, and creativity. A move for Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White collapsed despite Tottenham activating his release clause, and so Frank clearly wants someone in that area.
