Major Update on Tottenham Signing Mathys Tel Permanently Emerges

Tottenham are highly unlikely to sign Mathys Tel permanently this summer as things stand, according to reliable German journalist Christian Falk.
The North London outfit pushed hard to sign the talented French forward on loan during the January transfer window, paying a big loan fee and convincing him to join them over their rivals after an initial rejection as they looked to strengthen the squad.
An option to make the deal permanent was also included in the deal, with Bayern Munich making it clear that the player wouldn't have a long-term future at the Allianz Arena beyond the summer but it now looks likely that the 19-year-old may be heading back to Germany anyway.
Tottenham Don't Want to Pay £50m for Tel
The option to buy Tel permanently has been valued at around £50m, and Bayern Munich are said to be waiting on the cash 'urgently' in order to fund their move for a more experienced back-up option for Harry Kane.
But Tottenham don't want to pay the full amount as Tel's performances haven't been the strongest since his arrival, while it also looks difficult to convince Tel to make the switch if they don't manage to secure European football for next season.
While writing on his Substack account, Falk addressed the situation.
"The bosses of FC Bayern are still hoping that Tottenham will utilise the purchase clause. The €60million (£50m) would be urgently needed to buy an alternative for Harry Kane. Bayern currently only have one striker.
"There are two problems: it was not easy to convince Tel to go on loan. If Tottenham don’t qualify for European competition next season it will be even more difficult.
"At the moment, there is also no sign that Tottenham are prepared to pay this high asking price - Tel’s performances since joining have not been consistent enough for that. At the moment, it looks as if the transfer will not work out."
It now seems unlikely that Tel will be making the switch to north London permanently unless things chance in the coming weeks and months.
Spurs have also been linked with a move for Southampton forward Tyler Dibling, with Daniel Levy said to be personally pushing for that signing, while there are also question marks about the future of manager Ange Postecoglou anyway.
